On average you will find 2% of the playerbase on a forum. So even if an entire forum is saying "fuck this shit ima go swap to Dota2" and they would actually all do it then they would still only lose 2% of their playerbase.
The vast majority of players frankly don't care much for competitive gaming. They play a game they like and that's it. Even if you have bronze you are like in the top 10% of players. That other 90% probably doesn't even know what Dota 2 is.
It's similar in the MMO genre where every new game seems to be crowned the WoW-killer. The truth is that only a small minority is willing to swap games. Most of the playerbase is gonna remain where they are.
I don't recall any game in history that has ever "killed" another game in the same genre. Perhaps sequels have that effect but i can't really think of any competing games that managed to flat out bring the other to ruin.
The new ranked forum badges will actually be interesting since they will shed some light on just how much of the posting population fits into the top 3-5%.

Draft mode is temporary because ranked play is disabled. They want to give ranked play a strong draw I guess.

Yeah, but they wanted to make draft normals anyways. If they can do it temporarily, why not permanently?

Tyler though is far too awesome at SC to play LoL. Though I mean I guess he could if he wanted to but honestly, he's the guy who won a TSL. The guy who when he's on he just crushes everyone. Support him no matter what but yeah SC2 too good game to play.
Though I think it's a hidden fantasy of mine for him to be like go to an MLG or ESL and win in both games. That'd just be awesome.
That'd be cool. I think he's really good at SC but with the way things are going I think it's very possible that he could stand to win more money in LoL than in SC. Although I don't know how much he makes doing SC from TL and sponsors alone. I don't really care which game he plays although I don't really watch any SC2 so...
Draft mode normals are cool. I hope they release them permanently very soon after this weekend.

if dota 2 does the social networking thing well enough, it would definitely convince me to get everyone i know with a computer to play with me, maybe including guys and girls that don't play video games. i think that eventually some game will come out that literally everyone knows, like how starcraft is in korea. if that's dota 2, it would make it pretty hard to justify spending time playing LoL with your 2 real life friends that you play with now.

New games come around and surpass older games by drawing in an entirely new crowd of players.
Succes like WoW is achieved by drawing on entire new playerbases, not by "stealing" it from another game. You bring forth everquest as an example.
WoW didn't start out getting big by stealing players from everquest, it got massive and perhaps some everquest players made the jump later.
But this notion of a new game being released and achieving succes at the cost of another game, i don't recall anything of the sorts. Any genre at a time has a market share leader like WoW for MMO's and Call of Duty for FPS games but neither of those games got big by taking their marketshare from another.
That's why i think it's kind of silly to think that Dota 2 is going to seriously affect LoL. Dota 2 might very well become succesfull in it's own right (it has Valve backing afterall) and when it's the major market leader new players will flock to it first and the older games will slowly regress.
I can't speculate on how big of a success Dota 2 will prove to be but i can say fairly safe that it won't become big at the cost of LoL.

It doesn't matter if the game isn't as fun though. I know that fun is a subjective term but I presume that most new players to DotA won't be overly impressed with the deny mechanic and the impact of super carries in the game. While competitive aspects that separate good and bad players are good for competition between players, there are better ways to do it IMO than have such snowballing effects that make a lesser or unluckier player feeling so helpless. I'm sure the hype train will bring a lot of players and they may stay for their friends and whatnot but I think there are enough people who find LoL more fun who will stick or switch over to it. I mean, why do so many people play LoL when both DotA and HoN are free right now? The only things that DotA 2 has going for it are hype and graphics, but as they say: form is transient but class is forever (okay I think I may have paraphrased that a little). Riot has been making consistently good decisions since LoL's release and I trust them to hold off the advances of a corporate giant looking to gain from an outdated classic.
Edit: also, if DotA 2 isn't f2p, it will never be the market leader but I'm sure Valve feels this way already as the people most likely to switch, i.e. the fickle and the curious, aren't the types to pay to try.

I was under the impression LoL is more complicated in lane because spells are less powerful and cheaper, and the problem with LoL is the macro game is much more boring than dota because of ad support bot lane meta...but then again RS just beat 2 of the best teams in the world by doing interesting new strategies instead of sticking to a boring role.
