The same argument could be made for Executioner's Calling ("Hey, it's the only item that reduces healing done to a target"). Personally I believe Leviathan is trash because most of the time snowball items aren't very effective, since if you get them when you start winning then you'll just win a bit harder, which is cool and all, but if you're losing, then you need to be outperforming your teammates enormously for your Leviathan to stay above 10 stacks (10 stacks is when it's cost efficient, but it should be higher than that imo, otherwise you could've just as well bought a giant's belt). The reason I don't think Soto and Mejai are as bad Leviathan is because they become cost effective around 5-6 stacks while Leviathan needs a grand total of 10 stacks just to be as cost effective as a giant's belt. Also Soto and Mejai's should mostly be used for champions that die very little (Kassadin etc.), but as a tank with Leviathan you mostly want to dive into the other team, in which case it's very likely that you'll lose some stacks from diving unless you have 20 stacks in which case Leviathan is absolutely godmode. | ||

In my opinion the items are bad for two reasons. 1) They don't serve a purpose in higher skill gameplay 2) They dominate lower skill gameplay And they ruin a lot of games for new players. What do you learn when an enemy has 20 mejai stacks? Uh you don't learn shit you just your face stomped and you can't figure out how to counter it when you are still new to the game. People learn a little bit every game but you can't learn anything from scale items like mejai because they are just so ridiculously strong when stacked to 20 that they remove any chance to fight back. In the end people finally learn to handle scale items and then they learned a lesson that they won't ever find themselves using since it's a shit item at the end of the road. | ||

Without masteries/runes and with level 12 unreliable team mates who you can't count on for blue buff, I think rushing a tear is a good choice. It allows me to make life hard for my laning opponents, do great poking pre-team fights, and build into a decent item late game. | ||
