I am honestly questioning if its worth putting in the time to attempt to compete by dragging to 30 then trudging my way to a high elo and then finding a decent team\clan as opposed to doing the same in Sc2 (getting high masters for weekly tourny's) which admittedly relies less on other people for success
I am 15 in game now, played dota for about 6 years before quitting a while ago so I am familiar with the ARTS genre.
On the flip side being competitive in a ARTS requires less time.
Just invest in $25 in riot points and buy some exp boosts. You should be able to hit 30 in about 2 weeks of playing.
I did the majority of leveling for Smash's smurf, and it only took like 75 games.

Even after 30 there is a lot of work involved to become competitive just curious if its worth it over sc2 where I am better at LoL currently.

doesn't sound like it's even close to worth it for you
I have a smurf acct I leveled to 30, and I also one time took 10x smurfs to level 5 for the free 975 rp. People ask how I could stand to start over at level 1 but I'm not sure what to say. At no point was it 'dragging' or 'trudging' cuz I was just playing games. I don't anymore, but when I was leveling I bought an IP boost, but I never bought an exp boost because I knew I would get to 30 anyway just by playing. The best way for you to get to 30 is forget about getting to 30 and just play lots of games. imoimoimo don't even think about trying to 'go pro' if you can't even get to level 30 without feeling like it's a drag.

edit: pick the game you find most fun
Not pro, competitive, something like desrow or orb quality not pro but able to compete in weekly tournaments and stuff like that. But yea I play LoL more than sc2 but the grind to 30 is so long and I can't play with my current team because of lack of masteries getting me stomped.
Question: When Olaf's W is up, does the spell vamp apply to his E? Looks like if it did you'd gain back half the health you lost because it's true damage, which seems like less of a trade off.

To be honest, if you are trying to be competitive in this game, you are gonna be forced to spend lots of money. The "grind" to level 30 is practically nonexistent compared to rune pages, runes, and champions.

I am about 85% sure that it does apply the vamp to his E, but I would have to go ingame to check for 100%

Ah not worth the time then, I don't have the desire to spend large amounts of money when I will just be leaving when dota 2 comes anyway. (not bashing LoL I am just a dota player at heart but hate hon and wc3 engine)

Ya it's definitely not worth it for you just play the free champs and have fun with it because honestly it's a huge time and money sink. Not saying it's not worth it if you really like the game just for someone who isn't really in love with all the aspects of the game then you probably won't want to spend all the time leveling and buying runes and champs.

unless they changed it at some point, it does indeed. that was one of the first things i tested on olaf

seconding that it does. you get back 71 hp with max W and E, approximately halving the cost.
Just some random stuff I've seen to counter level 2 ganks, these are mostly specific to junglers who like to gank at level 2 (Lee sin, Pirate, Nocturne, etc):
Support should roam top at the beginning of the game. You CV their stone golems at around 1:3x. If they're doing it and you're on the bottom team (so he's able to gank your top lane), ward top before you go bottom to support. Similarly if they're not doing stone golems and you're on the top team, it's worth it to ward top lane before you go bottom (especially against someone like Nocturne).
If the other team goes stone golems -> lvl 2 gank on a side lane, an easy counter-jungle path to take is to just steal their blue for your mid. For example you can do blue->wolves->wraiths->their blue (maybe you'll need to skip wraiths for slower junglers). That's basically insta mid won with blue at level 3.
