Well, a gap closer combines with a disable is not what breaks a tank. Take Maokai, for instance, he has it and actually has no problem with it. Or Malphite whose ult is also arguably a gap closer with a stun. Irelia and Jarvan are broken not for that reason. In general, gap closers in some form are a good thing for melee champions, but you shouldn't probably put too much of them on the person who has strong autoattacks (hence tanky DPS, not just tanks) since those scale too well into the endgame.
Jax, Xin also have gap closers and there are no real problems with either.
Actually, if anything, tanky DPS were an answer to retarded ranged carries with too many escape abilities. Corki's Valkyrie is just bullshit, with it and flash there's no fucking way a melee champion with no reliable, low CD gap closer will be able to do anything against him. Imo, the best design here would be Vayne (she just was released with retarded numbers and retarded W) who has very weak escapes but is not totally devoid of them like Ashe, for instance. There are many things done right about Vayne (her tumble as a skill in general, her stealth), she just bears the stigma of an imbalanced-by-design champ when in fact she is very well-done if you forget her W. Notice how Tumble's CD doesn't refresh until you use the attack buff which means you can't tumble away from someone indefinitely. If we didn't have bullshit champs like Corki or pre-nerf Ezreal tanky DPS would've never even be needed in the game.

Sorry, but the difference between a hard gap closer and a mini ghost is HUGE. Every viable tanky dps in top level play has a hard gap closer. Amumu, jarvan, irelia, even ww.

After 10 straight wins my first loss on ze US account : < I must say, the US guys seem to rage so much harder (not more just harder) than anything I've seen in any other game (US or EU). This is probably the 4th game where I have had 2 or 3 persons being 3-4 levels below everyone else because they are so busy typing that they basicly spend 95% game afk because they can't type and move at the same time.

Guys, I really suggest you to play the challenge: Solo queue in ranked and you must run full aspd page and rush malady/wits end both before boots. Of course need to try to do as well as possible.
