Fortress mode sounds wicked if legit.

woah, dota 2 sounds awesome!
|
Fortress mode sounds like its pretty much the best thing ever made?
|
Seems like it would be hard to balance out, really depends on how traps/creeps work. Defenders should have an advantage.
|
Fortress mode and the whole 8 maps thing sounds like a bunch of BS. Everything else is either customs in LoL or a built-in game mode in DotA.

Anyone feel brave enough to start up a fiddle thread so we can do some discussion over there?

The 'new maps every so-and-so weeks' thing makes it sound real suspicious....would be absolute hell to balance and no one would play anything other than standard SR-style map for competition.

Micro transaction maps, you heard it here first. I don't think that introducing new maps would be that much of a problem, in particular look at brood war, they rotate maps constantly.

Well Brood War doesn't have the problem of balancing 100+ heroes and items on top of positional, terrain, and inherent racial imbalances (the last one of which for the most part has been solved).
In all honesty, I don't even feel that new maps are necessary at all for DotA/LoL-esque games. There's enough variation via champs and teamcomps to keep things fresh. It's not like BW or SC2 where the only thing that really changes from game to game is the map.

Actually, unless Riot completely reorganizes their infrastructure, they've already lost the race.
They take literal ages to do stuff. They have incompetent people leading whole divisions (you can't really be incompetent at game design, so I won't say Morello, but Marcou... ugh) and they are extremely inefficient.
I wonder if the threat of Valve that aims to have more stuff at release than Riot has after 2 years after it will make Riot move. If anything, they should be refactoring their code to allow modification.

You know you've made a good game when you can get a consistently high showing on your tourney streams despite having perhaps the most incompetent eSports set-up ever in the entire history of ESPORTS.

The key there is that they AIM to have more stuff at release..plenty of that will most likely get cancelled or delayed until later so that they can release the game on schedule

If fortress mode is legit, then the 8 maps thing could definitely sound plausable 5v5 and 3v3 normal maps aram map 5v5 / 3v3 fortress maps random arena maps

I don't think so, it's quite a normal amount of features. I'm sure they will kick out some of the stuff, but not because of time constraints, but because of playtesting that will reveal that some of those modes just aren't good enough.

Anyone know how to get the chat on the right like Chauster does? I know you can move it but it doesn't save and I really don't want to have to move it each game.

From what i heard about Dota 2 the name of the game was same-old same-old. These inovative concepts don't seem to clash well with what appears to otherwise be a very conservative remake.
In the end i doubt Dota 2 will do much on the LoL numbers. Some people might jump over to get a taste but i really doubt they will stick with it long. Dota is just a completly different game. People won't understand what is happening when they suddenly get 1-shot by every single champion and people are killing their own minions just to deny gold.
Dota (and HoN for that matter) are just far more brutal games. Tanks 1-shot people all the damn time as far as tanks even exist. That devourer is the equivalent of Blitzcrank merged with a carry.
In the end LoL is just a very different game from those other two and it will end up being their saving grace. People who are good at LoL will not at all be good at Dota 2. If there is one thing these LoL pro's hate it's being a noob so why would they stick with a game that basically has them being the feeders they despise so much.
I might play some Dota 2 just to enjoy playing the broodmother in high def but i don't think i will play it as much as LoL.
