I knew it was coming as soon as they banned out Medivh. They wanted to go for a dive comp, but MVP Black just kept drafting counter-dive. So Denial drafted more dive. With the Dehaka pick, they had a decent solo laner against Chen and allowed them to set up even more combos. It's not about setting up one huge blow up combo to kill someone. They have enough CC to set up a combo at any point. MVP Black has to respond to anything (Kerrigan combo, Dehaka lick, ETC slide, Tyrande stun) because it could be a dead teammate, but Denial doesn't have to commit to it. They can wait for a second or third or fourth opportunity. So it's a weirdly genius draft, but it's very hard to execute. When you're picking something that's insanely hard to execute against the best team in the world, though....

![]() After the BM from Denial in the previous series, they really needed something to bring them back down to earth. NA is so far removed from Korea and the best in the world, and this series made that viscerally clear. There's no point in acting like you're on top of the world in your small little fish bowl.

It's just that MVP black is outright mechanically better, so Denial couldn't make their strategies work. Edit: See the contrast with Burning rage who just looked like they didn't know what they were doing.

But they aren't even on Top in their own region. Astral far out classes them. Not to go into this again, but i think Naventic's consistent 3rd to 4th place finishes in both NA regional, should have given them the edge on either Denile or GFE's 2nd / 5th -6th place finishes. Feel like ego is what holds them back. Also since when did Denial become a strategic team? They're much more of a "mechanics" team. Need to give KR 4 Slots next year. ..Or at least give slots to the winners of regional world finals. So that in the event that KR teams take the first 2, they will effectively earn themselves more spots at Blizzcon.

I don't think Gul'Dan carried the game or anything, but Denial won. It was super close, tbh. Denial's early/mid game rotations are atrocious, but they managed to carry themselves with late game teamfights where BR was not as polished. The South American guys played super well, though. I think if you came into the tournament without knowing the teams or where they were from, you wouldn't know that BR was from a minor (AKA weaker) region.

It's 15 minutes of gameplay AT BEST, then 5-10 mins desk, 5 min commercial, interview, desk, draft. Then 15 mins gameplay and again desk... etc. Games being so short is good and practical for casual players, but for pro games it's really bad.
