Well I ended up buying abathur for money, because I wanted to play the hero and the gold gain is fucking atrocious. Takes me forever to play a hero I want to play.
Now as the added bonus, my first 3 games blows, because I dont have half the useful talents. It's like playing axe in dota and refusing to let you buy blink dagger if you havent played him 4 games before. Talent gating is almost worse than their reconnect feature. It's so pointless. Why let me play 3 games as an inferior hero for no reason, just to give me it all at once. In what world does that make sense.
I think dota spoiled me for every game ever, because people somehow seems alright with the time it takes to gain gold etc in this thread.

I had Nova, Malfurion, Arthas and Tyrande at lvl 5. So for me it was 6k from level rewards, 2k from heroes and 12k from one month's worth of dailies / gamess. I don't feel like I play a lot either - hotslog has me at 60 games or 2 / day (although I did quite a bit of co-op the first week I got in).
You and I are pretty close in play time and gold gain, but you're almost 10 levels ahead of me. You probably play with friends more than I do (which is just about never). Which brings up an interesting use case for people who power level to 30 and find they lack gold since there just hasn't been that many dailies completed for them.
i never thought about it, but it's true, i try to play as much as i can with guys on my friends list, and that brings in bonus xp ofc. nobody from my sc2 buddies got the invite, but luckily i was rewarded for my mostly good manners and eventually added by random kind spirits, who still tolerate my noobishness even tho they're a league or two above me according to hotslogs ^_^
for the game itself, my plan is to bring in RL friends. that's why gold gain is worrying me so much, i cant expect them to wait to finally have "real" fun as much as i am willing to wait. and none of them will instantly give money for a game they're not in love with. which they won't be untill they unlock heroes from their preferred universes. so it comes down to if they're lucky with rotation in that week when they start playing.
it is also very nice to add motivation, a goal. in example, silver league on ladder. with this gold system, that wont be available to them for months, if they even stick with the game. so im basically running out of ideas how to pitch this game... ^_^

Not to be contrary, but I bought 10 heroes with gold and have a 4300 bank in maybe 6-7 weeks

Not sure why but I just can't get hooked to this game. Game is relaxing (relatively speaking) but it's a little dull overall. It just doesn't have much of a moment

How that is even remotely acceptable is beyond me. I dont want to wait a whole week to try something, when someone destroy me with a hero. I want to test it myself to see what others do to counter it.

The irony in that is that I've spent more money on dota 2 than I have on any other game, because I wanted to.

Owning all the heroes isn't much of a goal. Do you quit after you unlock them all? Do you even want to play some heroes? If you don't want to wait a week or month to try something you buy it with real money. That is the point of a free to play game.

Obviously owning all the heroes isn't a goal. It should be the default state. I didn't know I was playing a dlc part of the real game, not letting me have their content. It's currently more like the old school demos I used to get with computer magazines. "Here, try out everything up to blood raven in diablo 2" kind of games.
If this is how they want it to be, I'd rather prefer to pay once and unlock it. Now it's just the most expensive pc game ever, while being "free". Getting 25% of their heroes with that nexus bundle costs 125 fucking euros. How can you accept that?

I think the prices/rewards are even more ridiculous than Hearthstone.
FWIW, in HS, a great player earns the equivalent of 50 to 75 cents per hour of play in the arena, and enough cards to play tourneys costs over 400$. The average player is probably closer to 20 cents per hour, including dailies.
It seems like the price for all the heroes is cheaper in HotS, but your hourly is ridiculously low. 0.20$/h seems to be what they consider fair, with 200$+ of playable content to unlock, and a tons more for cosmetics.
Said like this, it sounds incredibly greedy, and kind of kills the hype I had for HotS and Overwatch. I hope my math is wrong somehow :-/

I did the math and With dailies you get around 14k a Month, counting the dailies and the rewards from the games itself you need to complete. If you play more games than the required from the dailies you'll get more.
That's enough to buy every hero in the game eventually never paying anything and that's not counting the gold from progretion, so you should get around 30k the first month. So while that isn't enough to get 10 10k heroes, that's enough to get. The 10 cheaper and you'll still have 2k, and as I said before that's just doing the dailies, if you play more you'll get a little more. I think its fine
And I think you need around the same time to get ranked in lol, and that hasn't stopped it to be the most played game ever.

Why is this still being discussed.
Here are some basic numbers that people need to know before saying anything about gold prices.
You make ~360g per day on average from daily rewards alone. That's ~10700g a month.
You make ~25g per game assuming 50% winrate. On average, it takes ~3.6 games to complete a daily if you do not let them stack. That's ~107 games per month. That's an extra ~2675g from games.
It comes out to around ~13375 gold per month.
While heroes release at 15000g, that is a temporary price and drops to 10000g. Other heroes will decay in price over time down to a presumed minimum of 2000g. An example of this is Stitches and his recent price drop from the 10000g tier to the 7000g tier. Overall, you earn enough gold per month to stay ahead of Blizzard's current pace of releasing heroes. In other words, you will eventually own every hero.
There are currently 33 heroes. 31 of them have been in the hero rotation since the last alpha reset (Murky hasn't been in it yet, Thrall is new). That's 16500g from leveling heroes that you can earn. Level 5 is not hard to level to and it's in your best interest to un-talent-gate them and familiarize yourself with them anyways.
Finally, you get 6000g from account leveling.
That's 22500g that is "free" and that you will eventually make as long as you put in the effort.
As of now, hero league's requirement of 10 heroes is not hard to reach while fielding a respectable roster of heroes.
Arthas (7k) - arguably the best hero in the game and the best warrior in the game Stitches (7k) - one of the best warriors Muradin (2k) - solid warrior pick
Valla (2k) - one of the best assassins Tychus (4k) - one of the best assassins Illidan (4k) - solid melee assassin pick Raynor (2k) - filler purchase but he's still a decent assassin
Tassadar (4k) - great utility damage dealer
Malfurion (2k) - generally regarded as the 3rd best support Uther (7k) - generally regarded as the 1st / 2nd best support
That's 41k worth of gold to assemble a 10 man rotation that any pro player would say is a rock solid list of heroes. Assuming favorable free hero rotations, it's not unreasonable to assume you'll have that all within 2 months given that there is nothing else besides master skins to spend gold on at the moment. Is that really too long for a completely F2P player?
Sub out some of the weaker purchases for Nazeebo (10k) Brightwing (10k) / Zeratul (10k) / Tyrael (7k) / Falstad (7k) for your individual playstyle and you basically cannot have a better 10 man rotation (a 10 man rotation you will likely not play in its entirety, but whatever).

Are there just tons of leavers in Ranked Play, or did the reconnect system get even worde for beta? Out of 6 ranked games so far, I had to play 4v5 4 times. And once my entire team left. (Always in the first 5 minutes of the game. So it's not that they left, because we were insanely far behind)
And the team penalty is still ridiculous. They should REALLY get rid of that bullshit until they fixed the reconnect. That's probably the reason, why my entire team left in one game: Someone dc's -> the rest of his party has no motivation to play on, because they'll get the penalty anyway -> leave the game as well. I completely lost my motivation to play this game yesterday. I was hyped for ranked, but with the current reconnect system your rank is kinda luck dependent. Winning 4v5 is kinda impossible, imo.

Oh yeah, ranked is FULL of toxic players. Holy crap. You need to 5 stack until you get to a much higher level. Even then idk how it is. Feels like playing League again. Currently 8-2 in ranked.
I don't quite understand the ranked system. There's no Elo. You just get 200 pts per win and -60 per loss. So as long as you keep playing, you eventually get rank 1.
