Basically, this is the windfury-centric build that offers maximum damage for Thrall. Because Thrall's passive is batshit crazy, you don't have to worry about speccing defense. Just charge in and let loose. As long as you're not being focused on by more than 2 enemies, you should be okay. The damage that you'll do from spamming windfury is ***insane***. You'll cut through tanks (even Arthas) like a hot knife through butter. The ONLY thing that you need to worry about is mana management. Be careful about not needlessly burning through all of your mana before teamfights or otherwise running around with a low mana bar. The only time that you'll ever really be in trouble is when the mana bar goes empty. Yeah, I keep getting surprised by Thrall's amazing damage potential and just how hard he is to duel. I really think he's probably one of the best duelists in the game right now. As a general rule, just don't go toe to toe with him. The only hero that has a chance is probably Illidan. Otherwise, you're just going to get wrecked. If you're playing someone else, either run or kite. Even kiting isn't going to work most of the time because of Thrall's root and windfury speed burst.

Am I the only one shocked by the "give us 50€ or no access to ranked play for you" thing ?

1 month of dailies is easy 10k gold, plus grinding up to 30 will be enough for 10 heroes. Unless you spent all your gold on 1 hero (unlock and skin), it's an unfortunate luck if you spent it before ranked was announced.

You dont need to pay, and as it was stated before, you need the 10 heroes because you can have the two same heroes in a match.

I've bought 10 heroes with just gold so far. The secret is to play as many free heroes to level 5 as you can to get 500 gold a pop. That, combined with doing dailies and getting up in player level will yield enough gold.
I have 2 10k heroes, 3 7k heroes, 2 4k heroes, and 3 2k heroes. So 55k gold. If you're that desperate to play ranked, it can be done for 28k gold minimum.

Stimpacks give much better gold boost than I thought by reading the description. I thought while active if I earned 10 gold Stimpack would make that 15 gold. But how it works is I get the 10 gold then Stimpack adds on 15 gold as well. A ranked win yields 75 gold while active.

When there are multiple shrines starting the cap first allows you to challenge for the final shots of the other shrine so getting there first seems really important, but other than that... It's a really cool map. I don't understand the rhyme or reason of it other than you need to push all lanes really hard and seize other objectives to maximize your chance at holding the shrines. The one thing that is readily apparent is that heroes with big AoE abilities are going to be kings on that map. Tassadar is particularly effective. I also suspect that Hammer and Nazeebo will be strong picks.

Ya, it's a big map with a lot of places to be in. I played it yesterday as Illidan with a Nova, Tassadar, Tychus and Thrall on our team. Forcing you to split up and fight in small areas really played to our team comp and we dominated lol. But at first I was like... how are you supposed to soak when you're running cross map all the time?

We generally kept all lanes pushed and were able to largely dominate the temple fights. What seemed to be critical was establishing an early level lead just by pushing hard early.

im lvl30, im playing for 40+ days now, and i always level free rotation heroes to lvl5 for extra gold (even tho my allies hates me for it). so far i own tassadar and valla. i dont own any skins/cosmethics. i have 14k in the bank. and i dont approve of your math.
edit: valla is 2k and tassadar is 4k. so that is about 20k in 40days with most of the dailies and leveling heroes i dont enjoy. im not sure how many 2k heroes i can buy, but i still feel im progressing way too slow, i cant imagine how ppl who i plan to bring in to this game who are not hardcore gamers as i am will feel...

Stimpacks are super fast to level, too. I have 10 heroes, lvl40 and started 8 days ago.

I got a little bit more than 60k gold in 3 months playing a couple hours a day, while leveling all heroes to 5 except for Murky. That means a flat ~20k from account (6k) and heroes (~15k) leveling, plus 13-14k gold a month - so a couple heroes per month on average. Not good, but not terrible either IMHO.
So essentially as a regular F2P player you can expect to enter Hero Mode in 2-4 months, depending on how many cheap heroes you want. People who are willing to spend no more than 10-20$ can buy the Starter Bundle and/or heroes on sales (should be weekly 50% sales AFAIK). As for the super casual gamers that don't want to spend real money... well it's gonna be tough.

im not bitching about gold gain in general, just the part that affects gameplay, which heroes access is, especially now that it disqualifies me from certain aspects of competitive play...
i think that making best mounts and skins cash only is a great idea and im willing to pay for it to make my hero look shiny, after all i will be spending hours and hours with him/her. but im still not at the point where im in love with the game, to make that investment.
things that turned me off were, again, lottery of which 5 heroes were available there to introduce me to the game, then the fact i had(/have) to level heroes i dislike(d) just to be able to try out heroes i like, etc.
there's also bunch of stuff i really enjoy. but i just feel like blizzard is not capitalizing on its own universe as much as it can, by limiting access to heroes so much. i never played WoW and i couldnt care less for lily, but i wasnt really given a choice, 4 weeks in its second time she's in free rotation. why? cuz number of heroes is so small, they cant help it. meanwhile the coolest guys from lore are hidden behind 10k pricetag.
like with everything else lately, i feel like blizzard is taking the lazy approach and wants us to believe its careful planning or whatever. but as someone already says, its only alpha, so nevermind me
|
I wouldn't say that Blizzard is taking a lazy approach so much as they are trying to make money from their game. Again, the game is completely free to play depending upon how much time that you want to sink into it. If you aren't willing to invest the time to unlock everything that you want, then you can use money to bridge the gap. Isn't this how it should be? I get that people would prefer that Blizzard monetize the game strictly through cosmetics (ie skins), but there is nothing unreasonable about the system in place.

i was going along the lines that it does not make any sense to design your game around casuals (talents, shared exp) and make heroes such that their main appeal is their name and history instead of how they interact withing the game, and then limit this "blizzard experience" you were going for all along by not making those same characters available... and nobody can convince me a casual will wait as much as i have to get a guy they liked back in 2007 when they played frozen throne
this plus having like 30 heroes overall is lazy approach to me...

Yeah math is off, forgot to tag on a second month of playing. If you really want to be hardcore and play 200-300 games per month, then it's worth investing in stimpacks, this will be the only way to gain enough gold within a month to access 10 heroes by the time you hit 30. Playing casually doing just enough to complete dailies will take 2-3 months, along with getting heroes to 5. Honestly I think they should make ranked a lvl 40 requirement to fall in line with gold gain and getting 10 heroes at the same time, not to mention more experienced players. If I recall correctly it took just as many games to go from 30 to 40 as it did 1 to 30, though I played a fair amount of duo queue, so math is harder there...

First time you brought this up I looked at my account and was lvl 20 with ~20k gold just playing casually for a month. I had Nova, Malfurion, Arthas and Tyrande at lvl 5. So for me it was 6k from level rewards, 2k from heroes and 12k from one month's worth of dailies / gamess. I don't feel like I play a lot either - hotslog has me at 60 games or 2 / day (although I did quite a bit of co-op the first week I got in).
You and I are pretty close in play time and gold gain, but you're almost 10 levels ahead of me. You probably play with friends more than I do (which is just about never). Which brings up an interesting use case for people who power level to 30 and find they lack gold since there just hasn't been that many dailies completed for them.

Well now you're just reaching. They are already 33 heroes with Lost Vikings, Rexxar, Skeleton King, Butcher, Crusader and Sylvannas already announced. And we can easily assume that the Monk and Wizard are on the horizon too.
I've heard rumors about Kael'Thas and they promise that Zul'Jin and Cho'gall are in development (but not previewed like the above) as well.
Which is already over 40, not to mention they also announced Overwatch characters will be added once Overwatch is released.
Plenty of heroes on the way, just remind yourself again that it's still Beta.

I hear people don't enjoy certain heroes and hate leveling them to 5, which is understandable. But for me, it incentivized me to try every hero out, learn their talents and play style, and made me understand the game. It takes about 7-10 games to get a hero to 5, which is just enough to get a grasp at what that hero has to offer within a match. It sucked playing galzlowe, Diablo , and azmodan for me, but at least now I know what those heroes can do. Also it exposed me to all types of heroes so now I'm comfortable playing a decent level all heroes, with the exception of murky and thrall. It's part of the game, and I'm glad they're giving gold to learn the game.
