All for this rationale as long as the objective-based gameplay and different map layouts compensates for taking a bunch of things out that are seen as MOBA staples.

There are mechanics in ANY game where if you don't do research you aren't going to understand/notice, and quite frankly denying minions in dota isn't THAT huge (denying towers/heros can be, but at a low level even that isn't super impactful on the game). To me, you need some sort of snowball mechanic in MOBAs, or else the first 20 minutes before death timers start getting long is completely pointless. Does it necessarily HAVE to be last hitting? No, but there needs to be something. Not really, the snowball mechanic in HotS is basically just map control, which you can lose at any time if you take a bad fight and get team-wiped. In a game of DotA or LoL, if you get far enough behind in the midgame, you can't turn it around with one big fight until 60+ mintues in, which is why DotA games in particular often last so fucking long if they don't end in 25 minutes.

If it was just about the gold, sure it would be boring, but it's not. It's about being able to CS while maintaining advantageous positioning, and outtrading your opponent in harass, and having the ability to scare them out of range with allin potential or keeping yourself from getting caught out in an allin while maintaining harass and CS. Without last-hitting, the laning phase is much more arbitrary, especially with global exp - instead of having a disparity in income and thus items, as long as you stand within X units of a unit when it dies you get the same value as someone who killed it does, with the only disadvantage coming from wave pushing. It's not that it's not another opportunity to outplay your opponent but that he (and myself as well) would rather outplay our opponent in another manner that I consider vastly more interesting/fun/skillful, this is what HotS is aiming to do but could still use some work imo. It's like his limited RTS unit selection example. Sure it takes more skill to give commands to those control groups but frankly I'd prefer to spend that time/energy on using abilities or microing.

Can HotS still be that? ? no its team based ur gonna get flamed unless you are queuing with friends.

Been playing HoTS for a couple months, level 25, never seen aggressive flaming once so far. I think it's very successul in that regard. Now if we could somehow rollback the last patch it would go back to almost perfect.

I don't know how you've never seen it.

Maybe cuz I don't play co-op AI games*? I dunno, maybe matchmaking? Everyone I've played with is super cool or they don't talk at all. *edit: seems like if you do poorly against the very weak AI, people might be more apt to be mad.

It is pretty amusing when people run straight up to the tower even though they were told not to.

Once they open the flood gates there will be more flaming, just like literally every game with tons of people playing.
