I think a mute system like what they have in Dota 2 might be useful to cut down on the flames, assuming that there are some good non-chat communication shortcuts implemented.

I have to fight the urge to rage some times. It's mind blowing how terrible people are despite several polite requests to have them join the team for the team brawls, or watch the minimap, or help grab towers/shrines, etc.

I have not always been successful in containing my rage. Mostly because people are either ignoring the team completely or they have great scores indicating they know what they are doing but they just do everything alone with no regard for anyone but themselves.

Well, obviously it sucks if people are good and aren't team-playing.

But this IS a lot of people's first MOBA, so a lot of people are brand spanking new. Just think about how terrible your map awareness was when you first played an RTS. With a larger population, hopefully there will be less of a skill differential in a team. But always, just try to be courteous and helpful where relevant (not: You fucking suck, but instead: remember to drop everything when there's a teamfight going on/being pinged). Pings also help new players a lot with knowing what to do and pay attention to.

And the artifact system in removed. Glad they are willing to can stuff that doesn't work and adjust stuff that does. It seems they are keeping the talents per hero, but you will unlock everything 3 times faster. Seems like a goo balance.

I never even reached level 15 to try the artifacts. Anyway, I used all that bonus gold to buy heroes I'm liking Tassadar a lot!

Artifacts were fine, the leveling system is horrifyingly bad. I have no idea why every game has to crowbar an experience/leveling system just because CoD started using it.

Can you elaborate on that ? Why is the leveling system worse than the artifacts ? Especially now, when they increased the xp rate. Is it bad just because CoD uses it and you don't like CoD or there is legit reason behind that ?

The biggest problem is for such a late unlock, the benefit is straight game breaking, and the difference between level 1 and level 10 is atrocious, I don't understand how such a system got passed the eyes of any sane designer.

Which is totally fine by the way. It's good to experiment broadly on even the most basic things, just so you get a feel of whether or not that's an avenue you're willing to travel. Absolutely. It's QC like that that makes great games. Hey, if D3 had an alpha like this, maybe it would have been good at launch. (For whatever it's worth, I think how much better D3 has gotten since release is a triumph. But it was too late for everybody's review/first impression.)

Basically, every online multiplayer game needs "progression" or people get bored. Most games choose some kind of leveling system, but in order for that to work, it has to gate content. In this case, it gates content behind both hero and player level and hides FUNDAMENTAL parts of the game behind them. Given there's no matchmaking or ranked/unranked play, you have to either practice against AI for tiny XP gains or play a bunch of Vs. matches gimped until your champion is high enough to use their talents and your player is high enough to get daily quests and free heroes to actually start unlocking more heroes (this part isn't as bad with champion levels in).

Artifacts allowed you to further accentuate your character's strengths or shore up their weaknesses, or to go somewhat unconventional builds. The balancing and scaling was way off and they cost way too much gold to upgrade, but the concept was sound. Playing without artifacts is so much easier than playing without being able to use half your skills.

The reason why this works for CoD is because there aren't many strict upgrades. Sure, gating useful perks is annoying, but games and leveling are much faster than HotS/LoL/DotA. Most of the upgrades you get in CoD are just different guns that aren't strict upgrades. In HotS, everything that you unlock is a strict power upgrade. More skills is never bad. I would rather XP be used to buy Artifacts and have them in the game than have to play 10-20 games completely gimped with every single hero before I can actually use them. The LoL system is much worse, and the DotA system is just annoying, but this is still bad.
