I've never seen twitch chats be a majority of backseat gaming. Usually there are a couple people trying to tell someone how to play, but the majority is stupidity and hilarious comments.
Hearthstone streams are 95% backseat gaming from the streams I have watched.

Yeah, when I heard about the arena mode I got hyped, and signed up for the beta. But then when someone told me the arena isn't free... well now I don't really care about it. I'd totally love to play an online card game which was free to play and not pay to win. But Hearthstone isn't like that apparently. So I guess hearthstone isn't the kind of game I'd want to play.
Also, needing 7 wins / 3 losses to pay for arena mode is ridiculous, and won't be sustainable for anyone. With matchmaking, even the best players won't be able to get more than two wins per loss, especially with random decks. Because even if they are better than 99% of players, they'll still be matched against people who are nearest to their skill level. At least after the beta, when you have tons of MTG pros playing it casually.

Twitch chats are always toxic, especially for the big streamers like reckful or kripp.. disable chat is the 1st thing i do. there are a few exceptions though

That seems pretty silly.
If you're not going to make it a set 20 Common 7 rare 2 epic 1 legendary or something, at least restrict the chances of getting multiple legendaries, imho. So you're complaining about how random drawing a card from your deck is? It's the whole nature of TCG bro. Also they do have limits to how many cards you put in, same as any other TCG. You can't limit the legendaries to only having one, that's the same as only allowing 1 card, out of the best 10 cards of any other TCG game. Think about how stupid that would be for MTG or Yugioh. If someone wants to stack their deck with a buncha high cost legendaries then they will have a shitty early game and hope to not be too behind by the time they can start summoning them in mass. Theres also 3x the amount of cards to deal with big monsters then there are big monsters themselves. I also think the deck limit to be 40 instead.
This isn't constructed though - this is in arena aka draft. If you want to build a deck with those three legendaries, and you actually have them, go right ahead. But at least in arena, the idea is that you're all going in with more or less the same quality of deck, so the guy who's bought $200 worth of packs doesn't have an advantage. Instead I felt like even before I picked my cards, I was at a disadvantage compared to this guy who got offered 3 legendaries.

I don't know how you can watch streams without chat. Seriously the funniest part about twitch. It's a big pool of toxicity, and funny comments. The greatest combination. (Except for hearthstone streams.)
Also, the rewards for 9 wins in arena is actually amazing. I think I've seen the average gain be around 300 gold, a pack, and some dust? That's so much. Though I suppose getting 9 wins is hard as it is.

F2P games don't get by being free. You gotta pay for something. This is a random feature that isn't tied to anything important. Ranked is free, the game is free. It's as P2W as any other TCG ever in the history of TCG. But this time you have the option of getting all the cards for free as long as you just keep playing, and having fun in the process.

So you wanted Blizzard to take the LoL route and make the only thing you can buy in the game be different skins for cards or have the ability to buy cards directly and not packs? That couldn't possibly work and you can't compare the 2. Little to no one would buy the "gold" effects on cards and everyone and their mom would buy the cards. And then this game is basically ruined. Because the best deck possible is available from day1.
I also play LoL but I've only bought skins when they go on sale. If there was a mode in LoL in which you could play and IF you did AMAZING, you got free champions/skins/runes I'd bet you my car that they would charge a price to enter, be it IP or RP. It wouldn't be free.
|
I just want the arena mode to be free. Heck, if the arena mode were free, I wouldn't even mind a one-time cost to buy the game. I just don't want to go get myself invested into a game that's pay to win, with new cards coming out every 3 months that I have to buy or play x hours to be competitive. I don't want someone to try to take my time ransom.
|
So you don't want the game to be F2P then? And you just wanna play the game and have all the cards available to you immediately without any cost, time or moneywise? Can't have everything.

It's not F2P anyway. It's just a buzzword that's getting really popular now, if anything, it always meant something like "watch out, this game is most likely pay to win money machine".

If I like gambling I will pay. Same idea applies if I wanted to go play blackjack next city over. Can't just play for free ffs. Even if I love playing it. Maybe it baffles me because it is a F2P game. I don't understand why i can't point out how a game feature isn't F2P withouth someone getting pissed off, or calling me entlited or whatever. Specially when it is a CCG and ranked with the gold prices per booster packs is basically P2W. At the end is blizzard's decission, but let's call stuff for their name instead of running circles around or coming up with the extremely unlikely event for most people to go infinite just so some people can keep the hype bandanas covering their eyes. I haven't paid a dime on LoL, and i have half the heroes and all the runes. And more importantly related to the topic, i can play whatever game mode i want withouth needing to pay or hope. By the way, i know the nature of CCGs already, i am speaking about game modes here, since drafting is the only not p2w way. At this point, you would think blizzard had learned something from Riot. Because the best deck possible is available from day1. . They could sustain this just with : - Booster packs - Gold booster packs - XP booster packs - Classes Skins - Card skins - Emotes - Special edition cards But you can continue with your nonsense because i just not agree with you about gambling with my money on the only game mode where you don't have to build a cashdeck. How much booster packs by gold cost ? Or you are going to continue with that nonsense over and over ?
Yes I do and I guess we just aren't going to agree on it so I'll leave it at that.

You just mis-understand what F2P means. You can play the game for free. That doesn't mean you can do anything whenever you want with no investment never, you can do everything in the game without paying. Period.

You obviously don't if you are asking the guy if he wants to have all the cards available to him inmediately and withouth any cost when he is speaking about arena game mode. But yeah, let's leave as we agree to disagree.

Would rather pay a subscription... than play a pay to win game.
Hate the direction games are going... people take the LoL model and just abuse the shit out of now... same with DLC... Games selling DLC before the game is even released..if the DLC is completed before the game is finished...throw it in the fucking game i already paid for.
Would rather pay $50 once and have all the cards than pay more than that trying to stay relevant...

Actually, I think the real problem is that people are tired of paying $50 for quality roulette, but are willing to pay $200 for good ones.

I don't think this is new direction for TCGs at all.
