Perhaps getting McD jobs and quitting all the time would be fun, but grinding it out for 3mths would be lame.... I am reading liquidpoker now, so that's an option too.... I'll be rich quick... just gotta take out some student loans.... ya, poker = easy money. Couple days reading and you will be raking in the cash.
No doubt, baby.
Oh yeah, I'm in VA. But greyhounds are cheap. If any campus is especially easy to squat on, the 50$s would be an investment. BTW summer starts late april for me, and ends in aug.

It'd be an entry level McD job... and that's certainly something I will do. But that won't give me an apartment. Not even w/ 4 roomates. Uhh....an entry-level job will definitely allow you to afford a place to live... I mean come on, even if your post-tax wage is $4.00/hour and you work the standard 40 hours per week, you will make ~$640 a month, which is enough to afford a $2500/month apartment (if you have 4 roomates like you say) plus food and other essentials. That's a pretty nice apartment, even. actually i think 40 hours is definitely above standard for these kinds of jobs. i think that in the 30's is standard if you're looking for full time but that might be hard to find, especially for summer jobs. it's because the managers don't want to pay for a single minute of overtime, so they schedule in the 30's to make a nice bubble of space. Yeah they make you work like, 39 hours per week so that they don't have to give you benefits like insurance, because they're required to do that for people working 40 hours a week.

I'm fine now. At school. And I'm really kind of looking for some adventure. Like obviously the best solution is to beg a friend to let me go home with him. But that's awkward and you get 0 stories.

go on an adventure and let us know how you did. might get lucky and get a movie deal.

First of all don't go to a homeless shelter. Thats not a good place to be.
There are several options for you. One sure fire way to survive is do day labor and live in a storage bin. Day labor, for those who don't know, is temporary labor. Basically, you show up at this place in the morning, get in line, and hope someone hires you that day. Generally its construction or something similar. You can make $40 or $50 per day doing that, assuming you get work. (look in the phone book for places like Labor Ready)
The storage bin will allow you to keep your things safe and have a place to sleep that is safe. You can get free power by getting a light socket to ac plug converter. It is even possible to run a heater or hot plate, however be careful not to start any fires. Put a fake lock on the outside so when you close up from the inside it looks locked.
A storage bin is somewhat advanced and acquired after significant time on the street. In a pinch, a safe place to sleep is on the roof of various buildings. Most buildings have flat roofs with ladders going up to them. Find one where people can't see top from another building and you won't have to worry about other people or animals.
You can also create a "hooch" if there are some shrubs around. To be successful a machete is needed so you can go deep into the woods (a few hundred feet through thick shrubs is good). If you see beer bottles laying around or trash you haven't gone back far enough.
You will also need to map out where the food banks in your area are. They give homeless people free food. Generally they are at places like Volunteer of America or churches.
Truck stops are generally the best place for showers. You could also try a YMCA.

nah it's legit... I met a woman traveling in Alaska from Denmark who was using that site to land places to live, and had had no problems.

I like how you cite some movie / book / true story about a naive kid sets out to live by the land and ends up dying.

Have to agree with Straylight here. Yes, you can probably get some pretty cool stories doing outrageous things. But, and I realize I sound like a grandma here, you have to put your personal safety first. Let's face it, you have only the vaguest idea of what you're actually getting into, and I can promise you that whatever it's going to be, you will be exposing yourself to all sorts of shit, ranging from violence to disease, if you aren't living indoors. You won't get any cool stories as a John Doe in some morgue after dying horribly and slowly, all alone, from an infection in a minor scratch. You won't get any cool stories after having been sodomized by sexual predators in the back alley you have wisely settled in. And you most certainly won't get any cool stories from some of the things you might be forced to do in order to survive - not ones that you are willing to share with anyone, at least.
So, safety first. Above all, aim for something that lands you a roof over your head and at least a minimum of personal safety. There's a reason these things are valuable. It's your life - psychically, emotionally and spiritually.
