I just ate a raw egg this morning, and then, because I didn't die, I had two more!
Pros: it's the fastest breakfast you can possibly eat, just crack the egg and choke it down. Raw eggs are even more nutritious than cooked ones --- it says so on the internet! Cons: well, it's kind of gross and you might gag.
What about salmonella? It's definitely a risk. But at least salmonella won't kill you, it'll just flatten you for a couple of days. In addition, you can "dramatically reduce" the risk of salmonella by only buying eggs laid by cage-free, organically fed chickens.
Poll: Raw eggs? (Vote): I would never eat raw eggs. (Vote): I would be willing to try raw eggs. (Vote): I would be willing to try raw eggs, but only if I was starving. (Vote): I've had raw eggs once or twice. (Vote): I eat raw eggs frequently despite the fact that they're yucky. (Vote): I eat raw eggs frequently and they're delicious!
Well I eat raw eggs when I'm lazy or don't have time, just make sure they're organic. I think its harder to digest all of the protein when raw but some healthy enzymes or something are left because you didn't cook them.
I think the risk of salmonella is fairly low but even so I don't think why you'd do it when it's kinda nasty. I'd rather cook it with a piece of ham put it on a piece of bread and have a nice little egg sandwich.
5 raw egg whites + protein + cream= very fast and tasty breakfast. I did it for 3,4 weeks and it was great but I got scared of salmonella and other shit that may come up when you don't cook them. Is there any risk, because if there isn't I'm switching again to eating that for breakfast.
Relatively cheap.. can be made into a BUNCH of either quick snacks or amazing meals. I love sunny side eggs with toast. Hardboiled is a great snack (with salt). And I love scrambling them, putting some cheddar in there, Tabasco sauce and making a breakfast burrito yum yum
I know some weight lifters do protein shakes with raw eggs. Sounds kind of gross to me, I like to hardboil 4 or 5 and just keep them handy in the fridge. If I'm hungry for a snack just pop and egg.

Sounds like a hardass breakfast.
This study found that 1 in 30,000 eggs in the US were contaminated with salmonella and that 94% of salmonella cases were resolved without medical care. (Another .05% of salmonella cases resulted in death though. So I guess one in 60 million eggs turn out to be lethal...?)
Doesn't seem like something to worry about too much. When you're risking your life crossing the street, obsessing over miniscule risks associated with healthy food seems pointless.
Edit: Suppose you eat 3 eggs for breakfast every day. Then perhaps one in 10,000 breakfasts will result in you getting salmonella. 10,000 divided by 365 is about 27.4 --- so if you ate that kind of breakfast, you could expect to get salmonella once every 27 years or so. [/probably flawed statistics]

I've been thinking about doing this for a while. I just did some google research and it seems like it's relatively safe to consume raw eggs as long you're healthy, and even if you do get sick, consuming probiotics can help relieve the symptoms fast.
EDIT: Eating 6 raw eggs a day might be a bit much though
I've eaten raw ones a couple of times.. it was during the time when I took working out seriously. It is not as bad most people initially believe.
The principle to eating several raw eggs without feeling disgust is the same as drinking vodka - chug it down as fast as you are able and do not attempt to taste it with your tongue.
I used to eat raw eggs blended in a smoothy every morning for about 6 months. I never got salmonella, and every day the smoothy tasted GREAT! Raw eggs are AWESOME!
Just raw eggs doesn't really sound very appealing, but raw egg yolk tastes good on alot of things; pasta, noodles, diced & fried potatoes, some types of meat... Personally I usually fry my eggs in those instances, but the raw yolk is good if you want something a little more healthy and without the extra butter you get when frying.

If you use a proper frying pan (anti-stick layer) then you only need three drops of butter. (But any bit of burned egg is theoretically less healthy because of a small amount of carcinogenics).
To people planning to eat multiple eggs a day, watch out for your cholesterol level.

Personally I use an iron pan, so I need a bit more butter. But besides the health issue, the taste of butter may be undesirable in itself, making raw egg yolk a better alternative.
I wouldnt eat egg just plain though it has a nasty texture, just disgusting.
The dish is also known in Japan as "tamago bukkake gohan" (bukkake means "splashed" or "dashed"), "tamago bukkake meshi" (meshi means rice), "tamago gohan", or simply "tamago kake". Tamago (egg) may be written 玉子, as an alternative to the single character 卵.
One time back in high school, I was out doing dumb shit with my friends. We'd set up a list of shit to do on a city-wide scavenger hunt.
One was to eat six raw eggs at once. The other team's guy couldn't even finish two. Our guy poured all six into a cup and chugged it and threw up several minutes later after being forced on his knees with tears coming out of his eyes...lol.
That's disgusting, but very convenient. I won't really try it unless I *really* need quick energy. If eggs tasted good raw, they'd be epic. Just like a banana, but with lots of protein, cholesterol, a small baby bird.
I do it, fastest breakfast possible. Either wake up 1 or 2 mins earlier to cook them or sleep in 1 or 2 mins blast through the door while chugging down some eggs. Sadly I can't wake up the 1-2 mins earlier.
I don't think I could eat raw eggs purely due to the consistency. I love eggs and I know they're pretty good for you, but slimey raw ones....no thanks.
ive eaten loads of raw eggs , i wouldnt say they taste nice though i just eat them for cheap calories (im thin) theres nothing wrong with it , haven't any of you guys seen rocky?
tip:drink raw eggs with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice , this is the best way i have found
On weekdays I wake up an hour early just to prepare and eat breakfast, so I'm never in any need to eat raw eggs!
I do however buy carton egg whites, I pour about a cup full into a bowl, break a regular egg into it for the yolk (flavour), add in a tad bit of milk to reduce the odour when cooking and add some salt.
Pour the lot into a frying pan and stir until everything is scrambled and cooked =), it ends up being a plate full of eggs, but only a couple hundred calories because its all egg whites, but you get all the protein.

wow, your name and that statement goes together so well.
although what kind of milkshakes do you mean? Like ice cream shakes? I use bananas to thicken those up, it works great...and I imagine it's a lot tastier too.

Sounds like a vicious cycle :D
Well, I always learned that raw eggs have a higher chance of salmonella so I don't want to know why someone would risk that just so they can act like Rocky and have an egg smoothie in the morning. I am, listen to Rocky, he sounds like a friggen retard. Those eggs have destroyed his brain!
Just had two partially cooked eggs (~30 seconds in microwave). I had to put maybe a teaspoon of pepper and a pinch of garlic powder on it. Quite filling though.

tabasco sauce. fucking rocks in omelets!! and cheddar!?!? you're a genius
Sounds really hardcore to eat raw eggs all the time. If I was doing some iron man game or project. I would go a week or so doing that, up against friends or something. Sounds cool to me, but no I never ate them raw.
I've had raw eggs in cookie/bread/muffin etc. dough but never just a pure raw egg cuz imo it sounds gross and i cant really get over the smell of them.
the chance of getting salmonella from raw eggs is so damn low its like the chance of taking a plane and crashing.
tried raw eggs but the taste is not there. I think egg is one of those foods where it simply tastes better cooked and it takes like so little time to cook anyway =/
but yea mixing an egg into a bowl of hot rice with some soy sauce is nice =D
Had 3 raw eggs for breakfast when I was in a big hurry to get to class. They don't even taste bad the second time around. (They don't taste good either.)
I wouldn't worry about salmonella, i would worry about hormones and drugs that had been given to the chickens. I used to eat raw eggs regularly but I always bought organic.
family friend's granddad swears that soysauce + rawegg a day keeps him healthy. Every morning he just opens the fridge, cracks an egg open, mix sauce, and drink. Personally i dont think it tastes that good, egg cooked is just so much better, and there are like 984752983475 ways to cook eggs @_@
On March 08 2009 04:16 Fontong wrote: I would eat cookie dough...
actual cookies suck though
This. The question of cookie dough safety is nearer to my heart then whether I can eat raw eggs. Fortunately, the internet is awash with eggless cookie dougn recipes (one example). I think there's also commercial stuff with processed eggs or something. Sounds great! I'll skip the salmonella thx
it's really good with sukiyaki. it's also a good last minute add-on to fried rice, but that means it wont be raw. it'll be somewhat fried. nevertheless, it's delicious
