And your proof for any of the above is...? On the other side of the abortion debate, Republican Santorum says that suicides by women, and also crime, "got worse, much worse" after Roe. But in fact, the female suicide rate is one-third lower now than in 1973. And the Justice Department's annual survey on crime victimization shows a 69 percent drop in property crime and a 53 percent drop in violent crime since Roe.

You can ask me to validate every word with 10 citations from reputable sources, but you and I both know that my list isn't very controversial. Unwanted births would create plenty of financial and social problems.

I'm not using the word "progress" to push any political agenda. When I say "progress," I mean human progress. Moral stances aside, abortion benefits the human race. When a woman decides to abort her pregnancy, it's because she has made a decision that she does not want to care for her child. It hurts our species when we have children that aren't being raised in a caring, supportive environment.

These are lesser developed countries where religious beliefs are often put ahead of science. Proving what, exactly? I only pointed that out to show that there could be a correlation between a country's abortion laws, and its state of development. It's no secret that the quality of life for the average person in a 3rd world country is lower than that of someone in a country which is more developed. Use that statistic however you'd like, but it did help me put things into perspective.

Savio I suggest you listen to the entire Chiago Public Radio discussion when you get home. Obama might become our most intellectually advanced president since Teddy.

For those who think that abortion is a done deal in America and that the debate is "over":
I got a bunch of statistics, but then realized they were all from pro life website, so I chucked them and got these from Gallup:
And since "Legal in Certain" includes people like me who say it should be legal in cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother, we have this one:
This does not look like a decided issue to me. This is a mess created by the supreme court. If states could have voted their own laws in, then this never would have been the national mess that it is now.

I am now officially in favor of dropping the abortion debate in this thread. We could continue, but I do feel bad for my part in derailing a-game's thread.
Although, in my defense, the election has gotten less interesting now that we are 99% sure that Obama will win.

Mr. Obama was apparently targeted... and another example of 88 being a skinhead symbol! BAN INC!!!!
That's pretty fucked up. Each time my friends joke about him getting picked off, I actually go to check now, because I'm so sure a legit attempt is just a matter of time away. Fucking sad man.
Anyway, regarding abortion, this country would be 10x worse off if it was made illegal. Instead of having a clusterfuck of jizz and egg 'die' in a clean, safe operating room, you could potentially have the mother die when she goes and gets an alleyway abortion because she knows she can't afford to support a mistake. Then, instead of having one person, you get two on the public teat when she can't afford to take care of herself and her baby.
Most abortions are done very early, so the whole 'killing a human' is nonsense. It's a mass of cells at that point—no brain waves, no organs, nada. I agree with the ban on late abortions due to the sembelance towards a real human. Outside of that, it's the woman's choice, cuz it's her body, which the govt has no right to regulate.

What are you talking about Savio. That shows just how decided it is. You have 81% saying legal, 18% saying illegal, 1% no opinion. It's not like legal in a few + illegal in all are that closely related. All legal positions state, "we accept it" some just have conditions. When it comes down to being legal or illegal, legal wins.
Is your stance that it should only be legal in certain circumstances, such as rape & incest? But illegal when it is an irresponsible mistake?
It's honestly too difficult to put proper measures into place and to check everyones background to make sure they're telling the truth about their reasons. So it's better left legal and having some trust for most peoples discretion in this matter.
Again, the majority have decided. The issue is settled, it is here to stay. And people are sick of talking it.

Back on topic:
I don't think that McCain lost this election. I think the GOP lost this election. If all McCain did was concentrate on the issues and select a running-mate with a brain... the republicans would have won again.

Phoned, to be honest I doubt it. I don't think the republicans will ever win an election again as the population becomes more intelligent and older people begin to die off. Their party line is too outdated, and they really need to split into two factions. The religious crazies can form one party, true republicans can form another party.

Thats scary. Although I hate his policies, an assassination of Obama would be one of the worst things that could happen to our country.
