We're talking about the anniversary of the 9/11 event, you douchebag. No shit thousands of people die everyday. If we were talking about Darfur, Southeast Asia, or the tens of thousands of innocent civilians who died in the middle east due to war, It would be a different conversation. By real people, I meant its not something the media conjured up. So don't think you're being righteous with your statement.

When I heard the news, I was on the school bus, listening to the same old radio station the fat, senile bus driver had on every day. I didn't think much of it, but I knew it was a big deal.

I went to ground zero a couple of years ago and there was a cross shaped thing standing, left standing from the remainders of the building. Pretty neat.

9th grade, first week or so of school. We all got rounded up and herded into the gym, rumors of what had befell WTC spread and readily dismissed. Until I got home and saw the video in sheer horror. The next day was probably one of the most sobering days I've ever faced in public schooling. A few friends at Stuy sounded traumatized, having see the event firsthand.

On the note of 9/11 memorial, anyone at Columbia tonight for the forum for the two candidates? I recall they are coming after the Memorial.

I still don't understand what you mean by "REAL people".
In this last post of yours you were talking about Darfur, and other tragedies in the world, then you comment about what the media have conjured up. Although it does sound like you mean that all other major conflicts in the world are just made up by the media, I doubt that's what you mean.
If I just take the line, "By real people, I meant its not something the media conjured up", I don't know what you mean. What does the media have to do with explaining what you think "REAL" people are?

And I wasn't trying to be righteous with my statement. I was just trying to point out that the fact that thousands of people died on 9/11 wasn't such a major loss compared to every other day, when it comes down to hardship.

I had a college calc 2 test at 9am EST that morning. After the test, I had to hurry to get to Japanese class, but I remember hearing people in the halls whispering about fires and the WTC. We had Japanese as normal because no one knew what was going on, but my evening class eventually got canceled. I got back to my dorm around 11am and watched the news for the rest of the day.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

my friend doodled a picture of a plane hitting a skyscraper the day before 9/11.

We didn't think about it until like a week later and were like "WTF?" He had no explanation.

I remember I was online on IRC at the time and people were shouting "TURN ON THE TV, WTC WAS ATTACKED". I turned on the tv and switched from german news channels to CNN, to BBC and back because there was a huge difference in information. I remember that german channels at first reported WTC was hit by a rocket. Later they claimed it was hit by a plane, most likely accidential. I stayed with CNN for like 10 hours, because the information was more up to date and I didn't want to hear that enya song anymore.

Fact, approximately 2000 more people die every year in the United States from food poisoning than have ever died from a terrorist attack since our nation’s inception. What’s the homeland security department’s budget again compared to the FDA’s? 50.5 billion for homeland security compared to 2.4 billion for the FDA. If the goal is to keep Americans alive, it seems American’s don’t have their priorities in line.
Live to win.

I was just trying to point out that the fact that thousands of people died on 9/11 wasn't such a major loss compared to every other day, when it comes down to hardship.

and that is not a fact, that's your opinion. How can you say 2000 deaths is not a major loss?? Your opiniated statement would be different if your mother was in that building.

My high school was right across the river, about 15 miles inland into NJ. We were in an assembly when the first plane hit, and they interrupted it to tell us. Almost everyone went up to the 3rd and 4th floors, which had a clear view of the towers and lower Manhattan. We turned on the news in the classroom to watch the coverage. You could see the large black cloud drifting away from the towers and starting to cover the lower part of the island.

The second plane hit just after 9 and then everyone knew this wasn't some crazy accident. Quite a few students had parents who worked in the towers so people were starting to get frantic. They decided to close school at 11, or let anyone who could drive or get an earlier ride leave immediately.

The first tower collapsed just before 10, and it was hard to tell looking from where we were exactly what was happening. It wasn't until they said on TV that the tower was collapsing that we knew what was going on. The clouds of smoke, dust and debris at this point were very thick and it was hard to make out what was what. The north tower dropped about 30 minutes later.

It was the most surreal thing I've ever seen, and probably will be for a very long time.

If you're going to rival my statements with such 1 sided statements that are obviously influenced by your opinions, this argument is gonna get us nowhere. Lets just leave it as it is.

Isn't most everything posted on a forum just an opinion? Wouldn't it be an opinion that it is a major hardship that thousands of people on 9/11 died?
