On the note of 9/11 memorial, anyone at Columbia tonight for the forum for the two candidates? I recall they are coming after the Memorial.

If we were talking about Darfur, Southeast Asia, or the tens of thousands of innocent civilians who died in the middle east due to war, It would be a different conversation. By real people, I meant its not something the media conjured up. So don't think you're being righteous with your statement. I still don't understand what you mean by "REAL people". In this last post of yours you were talking about Darfur, and other tragedies in the world, then you comment about what the media have conjured up. Although it does sound like you mean that all other major conflicts in the world are just made up by the media, I doubt that's what you mean. If I just take the line, "By real people, I meant its not something the media conjured up", I don't know what you mean. What does the media have to do with explaining what you think "REAL" people are? And I wasn't trying to be righteous with my statement. I was just trying to point out that the fact that thousands of people died on 9/11 wasn't such a major loss compared to every other day, when it comes down to hardship.

and that is not a fact, that's your opinion. How can you say 2000 deaths is not a major loss?? Your opiniated statement would be different if your mother was in that building.

The second plane hit just after 9 and then everyone knew this wasn't some crazy accident. Quite a few students had parents who worked in the towers so people were starting to get frantic. They decided to close school at 11, or let anyone who could drive or get an earlier ride leave immediately. The first tower collapsed just before 10, and it was hard to tell looking from where we were exactly what was happening. It wasn't until they said on TV that the tower was collapsing that we knew what was going on. The clouds of smoke, dust and debris at this point were very thick and it was hard to make out what was what. The north tower dropped about 30 minutes later. It was the most surreal thing I've ever seen, and probably will be for a very long time.

Wouldn't it be an opinion that it is a major hardship that thousands of people on 9/11 died?
