In fifty years of work at a 9-5 job, you'll be forced to work over one hundred thousand hours, assuming you work 260 work days a year as you would as an American. Just think about that for a while. One hundred thousand. Hours. This isn't even including time spent commuting or taking care of any number of chores (lawn, house, bills, taxes, law, health, investments, family) that you could technically pay others to handle. You could condemn yourself to a life of dull drudgery, or you could accept intermittent attacks of severe pain and then spend those tens of thousands of hours doing whatever the hell you feel like. For the rest of your life. This isn't even considering whatever fancy material possessions you could gain, because those are irrelevant compared to the ultimate treasure of freedom. Apparently many people value the comfort of their balls more than time and free will. The idea is to get a job you enjoy; there shouldn't be the "dull drudgery", as you put it. Personally I don't mind my job; it's intellectually stimulating, the people I work with are great and so forth. I'm sure it'll get boring eventually but that's why you can change jobs too. Heck, even if I had no financial concerns whatsoever, I would most likely take a job (albeit probably one with less hours/responsibilities). Granted, having nothing to do but playing SC2 all day sounds fun but, like anything else, it would get ridiculously boring eventually. To me, a comfortable, happy life > extravagant, luxurious life with psychological trama (from always wondering when the next hit would be), sleep deprivation (from always getting woken up with a boot to the nads at unexpected times in the morning) & intense physical pain several times daily. It's not even close.

If you were just given it you wouldn't have the respect or the job to go with it. So what you gonna do with the rest of your life, just be an asshole? Plus you wouldn't be able to drive, rockclimb, ski; in fact even cutting bread becomes fucking dangerous if you could get kicked in the balls any second. So I pick NO WAY!

If you get the $500million up front, it's a really easy decision, because the rest of your life you can spend having so much fun that it easily outweighs the inconvenience of the ball-kicking, which you would probably get used to after a few years. Let's not forget that money decreases in utility as you have more of it. xP When you have $10 million dollars, getting kicked in the balls for $9k doesn't sound like such a good idea anymore. So the actual utility would not be $9000 as you see it now, but probably like $500 in your current financial situation.

This thread makes me realise how much materialism and capitalism has truly twisted our worlds heads into selfish detached organisms. If i could solve the worlds problems with the money ( which u couldnt with that sum of money ), like build enough infrastructure , farms, etc for every nation on the world, if i could influence changes in the worlds management systems and help the environment, if it payed for every single person to have access to uncensored education, if it could solve all ecological crysis's all over the world.... Then YES i would do it, for the good of humanity Would i do it so i could get endless blow, hottest hookers on then end of my knob whilst i sit in my mansion, NO. Buddism 101 - Desire is Pain. U get the 500million, then what? Did u know that statistically speaking the richer you get the less happy you are... why is that, because the LIE that u have been told, that u can buy happiness, that happiness can be attained through possessions dosnt work and when u get rich u realize that and u dont know how to be happy anymore I hope some of you wake up from the enslavement that corporate/age old powers have instilled in you from an early age..... "Want to be happy?? Buy Shit!!" Its a joke and a tool of control to make you work in their system for them.

No thanks, for me things are way more enjoyable when I've worked really hard to get it. No-one will be happy when he hasn't anything to dream about.
