Over the past couple months, facebook has opened its site to application makers and allowed third party programmers to make applications that users can drag and drop into their profile. These apps range from the useless to the addicting. This thread is here for you to share your favorites.
My favorite app thus far comes courtesy of Moltke, and is the Traveler IQ Challenge. Considering it is a corporate sponsored app, I was wary, but this application is very addicting, and in light of our recent threads on geography ignorance, perhaps very helpful as well.
The premise is simple. The app shows you a world map, and then gives you a spot to identify. Simply click on the correct spot on the map, and it will give you a score based on your speed and accuracy. Items range from cities to famous buildings and natural features. Better study up on Africa and the Equator though, the game gets tough after the first 7 or 8 rounds.
There are 7 different challenges thus far, from the traditional worldwide, to region specific. If your friends join and play, the app will automatically rank you against your friends, and the rest of facebook as well.
The weak points of the app are some frustrating inconsistencies with the answers. (For example, Spokane is not as far inland as the map suggests). In addition, the replay factor may not be great, as I already find much of it being an exercise in memorization. With new challenges coming out though, the Travel IQ Challenge will be in my profile for some time to come.

I like iLike :D An app thats sort of like a music quiz. You get 30 seconds to answer correctly. Kind of addicting, too bad you need so very very many points to advance aftetr 5000.

Im getting so fucking sick of people sending me that stupid Ninja's vs Pirates. Other than Traveler IQ Challenge most of them are bullshit. Theres nothing more annoying that trying to write on someones wall and having to scroll though "HOLY SHIT! STROKE MY PET!" "HERES A PICTURE OF A BUNNY" "LOOK AT MY AASUMZ AQUARIUM!".
Facebook - You sold out dude , you sold out to The Man (even though i guess i work for The Man)

I've been searching for the Cities I've visited application for some time now, as it allows you to tick locations (cities, specifically) on a global map which you have visited. I prefer this layout to coloured-in countries or provinces, since it is more precise and telling. A drawback to the map is that is uses a square mercator's projection map, heavily distorting the image of the world and there is no zoom size which fits the world neatly in a single picture.

something that traveler IQ was based on, and doesn't require facebook to play:

I agree that the "Cities I've visited" app is one of the better ones. Facebook is looking more and more like MySpace these days with all the extra application. It takes a few pages of scrolling just to reach some people's walls...

i ignore all requests for those stupid apps :[ they are turning facebook into myspace imo

I don't see what's wrong with apps... Nobody is forced to load their page with apps. You only have to look at a page loaded with apps if you are friends with the person. It's each user's decision to either have a clean cut, minimalist page or to load their page with a bunch of junk. And then it's your decision to friend that person on facebook or not. Blame the people, not the site. Facebook is just opening up every option without forcing much of anything.

The only application I approve of is "where I've been" world map.
All others remind me of myspace and the stupidity of the internet. Oh facebook...why...

Yea facebook started becoming more and more like myspace. It's annoying some people on my friends list have like so many applications that it lags my browser.
