So yea i was wondering about you guys. How does caffeine affect your mind and your ability to do things?
The reason I'm asking is because i started drinking only water about 3 months ago for a jiu-jitsu tournament and today i decided to treat myself with a Dr. pepper and a shitload of mountain dew in like under 5 minutes. Now 2 hours later i just finished playing guitar hero for and hour and can fall asleep and am even having trouble typing because my fingers are a bit twitchy.
The problem with the guitar hero thing was that i played an hour of ONLY 1 song. I became obsessive compulsive and could not finish the song because i was trying to get 5 starts on expert. I played like the first 30 seconds at least about 60 times over trying to get it perfect so i could get the x4 multipp .... I'm rambling. back to the point. Does caffeine do this to any of you guys?

Sugar Intake Sugar Rush Sugar Crash
I thought this was gonna be more energy drink/caffeine pills (fun shit, kept me through school twitching and alert for 4 hours despite having 0 sleep).

I haven't had any caffeine for over six years.
I don't know what it would do to me at this point.
|
i cant wait for that damn sugar crash then, cause i my eyes dont want to be open but i cant help it any more.
|
I drank a full throttle before going to bed once...man i could not sleep.
I don't really notice an effect during the day though.

Whether you get more alert after drinking caffeine depends a lot on how much water is in your system. Caffeine dehydrates, so if you don't have enough water with the caffeine (say, with a strong black coffee like an espresso), you can actually get sleepy after drinking it.
Oh, and caffeine also has a muscle loosening effect for some people, which is why some body builders and athletes swear by it. Of course, it also makes you more "regular".... due to the loosening of intestinal and urinal muscles.

Taking pro-plus as you're just falling asleep is awesome. In the morning you're totally awake. Not just awake but somewhere beyond, like the opposite of drunk. There is some strange clarity that you can only get then.

im addicted i drink mountain dew like its water i plan on having 2 coffees before 10 am tomorrow then a redbull in the afternoon and 3 or so mountain dews at night for drinks/dinner/whathave you
a few days without caffeine and feel like shit withdrawal ftw. it actually causes headaches.

Ive been slowly reducing my intake over the years, mostly because ive realized how powerful caffeine is.
Drink about 1-2 cokes or cups of coffee a day now on average, will get a bad headache if I dont have any. The real problem for me with soda is all the empty calories and sugar(Or corn syrup here in america, unfortunately). Dyes your teeth, it has contributed a lot to my insomnia over the years.
The temptation is that if I stop drinking, go a few weeks without having any caffeine and then suddenly have some.. I feel fuckin god like. Its unfortunate that it only takes a few days of sustained drinking for it to lose its effect and become merely something you are dependant on.
If you still want to drink it regularly, I would just recommend enacting a rule like "No caffeine after 4pm" or something.

I drink a lot of monster:O

I am not a fan of coffee or soda. I guess its a good thing!
|

Well for the last 5 months I've taken up a new diet and workout so I have been drinking only water and milk.
It's pretty nice I feel like I have more energy although when I tried it before I was always fucking depressed, or felt that way anyway.
When I drink caffeine I get tired usually which is the complete opposite of most people I know. Probably due to:

I just like the taste, I don't think Caffeine every does anything to me. I'd drink before bed, and I fall asleep all the same, it's just that taste! Ahh so good...

I have an extreme tolerance for caffeine built up through years of overexposing myself to it. For those of you looking for something on the market that provides a boost, but for whom caffeine is ineffective, try Niacin/Vitamin B especially (used in breakdown of glucose). Niacin will probably make your skin itch if you take enough though from blood rushing to the skin.
As for the OPs question, caffeine has little to no effect on me unless I take over 7-8 grams, which would usually be pretty dangerous for your average person.
|
I have a tolerance for it from drinking it all of my life. I can down an energy drink and be asleep in an hour or two without any alertness, no tossing and turning. I don't drink it as much as I used to, mostly water and tea now. But, it takes a huge amount of caffeine to make me anywhere close to hyper/wakeful after sleep deprivation.
My fiancee, on the other hand, came from a house with a very health conscious mother and never had the stuff. So, whenever she gets exposed to even just a little of it, she's up for hoursss and incredibly hyperactive. It's almost like she's on some mixture of weed and speed when she drinks a small energy drink, no joking. The last time it happened, we got up at six in the morning and she drank one at around ten that night. She was up until two in the afternoon the following day, and by up, I mean bouncing off the walls, having random giggle fits, etc. : x

I prefer juice whenever I can get it. Otherwise I usually don't drink soda unless its free or whatever. At fast food places they always charge like 1$ +++ for even a small soda so I usually just get water or a water cup and fill it with soda/lemonade. I refuse to pay for soda at fast food place because it only costs about 30cents and they charge you like 8x that.
I mostly don't like caffeine so even when I do drink soda its usually non-caffeinated stuff. Its not because it does anything to me because it really doesn't, its just because I like to control my body's drug intake. Who knows what kinda shit they will find out about caffeine when we are all in our 60s and have been drinking it for years.

Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors in your brain. Adenosine makes you drowsy, and since caffeine's structurally similar to adenosine, it fills up the spots so you stay awake and not sleepy. Tis also increases brain activity, making your adrenal glands release adrenaline, making your heart rate go up and feel energized and alert. Oh, and it makes your brain release that stuff that makes you feel happy, forgot what it's called. Some studies also showed that caffeine makes your capacity to do mental and physical labor higher.
Long term affects happen when all the good stuff wears off. Then you start to feel tired and sleepy, but it will still be harder to sleep since caffeine's half life is like 6 hours, so there will probably still be caffeine in your system. Then you'll probably drink more caffinated drinks to feel good again. Only bad part is if you stop after drinking caffeine all the time, you might get headaches and feel tired all day. Of course, this varies for everyone, depending on bodyweight, etc.
|
sounds like the best thing to do is drink Caffeine as a drug when you need a temporary boost to help you stay awake/alert, but to avoid being dependent on it to avoid withdrawal symptoms and potential long term health problems.
|
I don't like coffee that much, i do drink lots of water and tea (no soda either). When i'm really tired at work i'll drink a cup of coffee, it works for about 2 hours for me. But i try not to make it a habit, otherwise the effect will be gone.
|
energy drinks are so terrible for the human body. they not only throw off its normal balance (like energy levels) but they put it to extremes which is obviously bad. those people (ICP faggots mainly) that chug this shit are gonna have an early grave.
|
i drink coffee at work everyday : 0
it owns
coffee also supresses ur appetite, so instead of eating junk food in between meals, i drink coffee D :
not as good as amphetamines tho D:<
|
i have at least a cup of coffee everyday...i've never really noticed the effect it has on me...oh well
|
i dont drink coffee or energy drinks cuz i have a very low bloodpressure. cuz of this im like a zombie. thats gonna happen if you boost a zombie:

I like premium-cola, a german softdrink with 250mg caffeine/liter (Coke: 40mg/l) which is the legal maximum here. C-c-can't c-c-complain a-about any aftere-e-e-effects.

I only drink water and milk regularly, but a few cops of cofee now and then. No side effects except from the warm fuzzy feeling

MuShu - Dopamine?
I don't drink coffee or tea ever, and rarely drink soda. When I do drink soda, I don't find that it ever effects my gameplay/alertness... maybe I don't drink enough of it.

They had here a really cheap promotion on cocacola and I bough like 8 bottles (1.5L) and drank 1/day after that I didnt have any coffein and had two really shitty day, I just wanted some coffein but I just managed to fight the temptation. It was the first time I felt the effect of coffein, usually I had the opposite effect. My head hurted from drinking too much coffein not from withdrawal. Anyway now I minimize coffein drinking but I have nothing against having one coke once in a while, I just dont want to be dependent on it. (Thanks god I dont like coffee ). Also I drink a redbull or two if I have a really hard night ahead, like I have to organise a party then bring back everything at 8am after the party and I havent slept. Redbull works perfectly for that, I am awake and able to carry large stuff around as long as its not too mentally challenging. Coffein doesnt improve intelectual performance thats for sure. Mostly its sleepyness which kills your performance...

I heard red bull tastes like medicine... yuck!
EDIT: like cherry cough syrup or something?
|

|
No problems what so ever with caffeine and/or sugar here. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! + Show Spoiler + I don't drink coffee and never drink a lot a soda/juice/redbull and shit since I tried to see how many different sodas + red bull + coffee i can drink. I puked all night and the day after. :S

Caffeine does nothing for me either way. Probably because I used to/still drink alot. lol I remember about a year ago during summer, I'd stay up and watch adult swim and play video games/poker. My dad made this bitchen tea with like 12 bags of sugar in the pitcher, and he'd buy me like five 2 liter bottles of Coke a week. Every night I would drink 3/4 a pitcher of the tea and a 2 liter of coke, and would have no problem going to bed whenever I felt like it. Also when I woke up the next morning I would drink the remaining 1/4 of the tea.
Even now I down Mt. Dew and Coke like it's water and it does nothing for me.
|
caffeine doesn't affect me, when im tired i stay tired
|
I'm the same as a lot of you guys - the caffeine doesn't affect me at all. Drink mt. dew like its going out of style until I realized that the sugar does affect you though through weight gain. No more
Been free for 4 days!
|
caffeine doesnt really affect me either. I wish it did tho lol
|
i think the effects of caffeine can be psychogenic in some cases too.
|
I actually want to give up caffiene entirely, but I love chocolate too much.
I already avoid tea, coffee, soft drinks, and the like now.

Best Edrink out there
I drink them whenever I feel burned out, lack of sleep, etc or on weekends mixed with Jager. Good shit.
|
I try and avoid soda, but I drink more than my fair share of coffee. I can attribute that to my terrible sleeping patterns.
|
i stopped drinking caffeine a few months ago because i thought it was fucking up my sleep patterns. i've been getting tired easier than i used to, and i can usually sleep a little longer. now i just drink root beer if i want something that tastes good, and ive been drinking that for so long that i actually prefer the taste compared to pepsi or coca-cola. just takes a while to get used to.
|
I don't have any caffeine usually.. I just don't wanna get addicted.
|
The mild doses of caffeine found in soft drinks and coffee pretty much have no effect on me. I've been drinking a big can of iced coffee stuff I get out of my school's vending machine at least 3 days a week during the school year, and now they barely keep me awake. One time, I slept an hour and 2 Starbucks Doubleshots barely kept me conscious through 1st period.

I work a corporate job at citibank.. i really can't survive functioning normally without cappuccino or coffee..

Yea, I am a chronic mountain dew drinker, and I will get headaches if I don't drink at least half a cup a day.
