There are many types of anti-semitism. Neo-nazis might want to validate Hitler's views. Also, some of it is "standard" racism against ethnic minorities. It can be related to fantasies of Muslim hegemony in the Levant. Sometimes people on the left are careless with their criticism of Israel to the point they blame "The Jews". A country such as Iran is profoundly anti-semitic because its government sponsors such views as Israel is a geo-political enemy. And in the Netherlands it's the case that Muslim youth misguidedly use anti-semitism as a way of rebelling against Western society and emphasizing their ethnic roots.

The picture wouldn’t be complete without the systematic weaponization of anti-semitism accusation from israel and its supporters, who launch it at anyone who opposes them, effectively pouring trucks of oil over the fire. I’ve read countless times that, for example, supprting BDS against Israel was, clearly, antisemitic. European countries bad conscience towards the jews and the extreme sensitivity of the subject paralizes everyone when it comes to these fallacies and Israel is really good at getting away with horrendous stuff by blackmailing its critic with those accusations even when they don’t make any sense whatsoever.

I was reading the link posted in here to the NY Times book site about the similarities between 1920s-1930s Germany and the current US. The author points out that trump is threatening to pull out of many backbones of international trade and relationship that were installed after ww2 for a reason (see spoiler) + Show Spoiler + "Today, President Trump seems intent on withdrawing the US from the entire post–World War II structure of interlocking diplomatic, military, and economic agreements and organizations that have preserved peace, stability, and prosperity since 1945. His preference for bilateral relations, conceived as zero-sum rivalries in which he is the dominant player and “wins,” overlaps with the ideological preference of Steve Bannon and the so-called alt-right for the unfettered self-assertion of autonomous, xenophobic nation-states—in short, the pre-1914 international system. That “international anarchy” produced World War I, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Great Depression, the fascist dictatorships, World War II, and the Holocaust, precisely the sort of disasters that the post–World War II international system has for seven decades remarkably avoided." While reading this I thought - how odd is that, I just read about Chesterston's fence on TL and trump is ravaging it without much thought in this article. Anyway, I just thought it a bit strange to have someone so impulsive and inconsiderate champion the party of Chesterston's fence and wondered what people who are more familiar with good old C-buddy and maybe have actually practiced the underlying philosophy in everyday life how the two can go together so, ostensibly, nicely? Though the author notes on that + Show Spoiler + "Fortunately the US is so embedded in the international order it created after 1945, and the Republican Party and its business supporters are sufficiently alarmed over the threat to free trade, that Trump has not yet completed his agenda of withdrawal, though he has made astounding progress in a very short time." I find it hard to not come about as someone who's searching for a gotcha moment... This isn't the case. I lack the understanding of what kind of problems, policies, visions Chesterston's fence can be applied to. Because it was mentioned that there are nuances. But it wasn't expanded on.

The latter is just a time-lagged extension of the former. When the opposition successfully removes the fence, the Trump-level individuals state they were never sufficiently convinced of why it needs to be removed in the first place, and they want it installed once more. When the frame of reference coincides, the two levels agree. When it doesn't, they may not. But they're far more likely to agree with each other than the reformers are with one another. Merge that with a fundamental distrust of all discourse from the opposition on both sides (and in Trump's case, a fundamental belief in his "gut"; keep in mind he's opposed many trade deals for ages, one of his few consistent policies even in Democrat days) as well as a conspiratorial mindset and voila! The system breaks utterly, because if you believe the reformers never tell the truth (or that you always know best) there's no difference between Chesterton's fence and freezing things as they are. And if you let people move the frame of reference back, there's no difference between that and moving things backwards.

I wonder how long it will take until Roe v Wade will get overturned Is your post in response to the not-so-qualified Kavanaugh being confirmed, or is your response to a conservative-leaning justice being confirmed? Most of the other folks on the short list for SCOTUS probably would vote the same way on Roe vs Wade as Kavanaugh is expected to.

Congratulations to Americans on electing a known sexual predator and a crook to president( I'm confident that he's the dumbest person to ever step foot in the oval office), and a entitled spoilt brat to the supreme Court. Fucking tribal joke of a government. Might be for the best as Trump and his cronies burn it all to the ground in a few years and you spend a few decades piecing it together from the ashes, but man I feel for you all who live there.

Glad that baseless accusations and down right slander and all the goal post moving in the world wasn't enough to railroad a good man(who likes beer). May he judge for many seasons. I'm starting to wonder if the two sides participating in these arguments even had the same discussion. Because despite all the back and forth, and all the legitimate concerns brought up over the prospect of Kavanaugh being confirmed, it seems all the right-wingers in the room went back to just repeating what Fox News is telling them to.

The Honorable Brett M. Kavanaugh will be sworn in as the 102nd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on October 6, 2018. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., will administer the Constitutional Oath and retired Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy will administer the Judicial Oath in a private ceremony later today in the Justices' Conference Room at the Supreme Court. Both oaths will be administered so that he can begin to participate in the work of the Court immediately. A formal investiture ceremony will take place at a special sitting of the Court in the Courtroom at a later date. https://www.supremecourt.gov/publicinfo/press/pressreleases/pr_10-06-18

You may not have gotten the sexual assault charge, but the lies/perjury should have been enough. I'm assuming the people interviewed balked because they were spineless and didn't want their lives upended defending the masses from this.
