Although this thread does not function under the same strict guidelines as the USPMT, it is still a general practice on TL to provide a source with an explanation on why it is relevant and what purpose it adds to the discussion. Failure to do so will result in a mod action. |

Denmark was OK, Germany kind of sucks, Israel also not great. Hi there! Unfortunately I won't be watching this year, but I hope you enjoy
We watched all the entries. Feels like a deserved win. 5 yo went to bed a little over halfway in so a strong showing for her.
Great that Sweden bombed out, think it's what we needed.

It’s too brazenly political to really function as a song contest, but I know a lot don’t really care and just enjoy the spectacle

I guess I expected a similar attitude for the countries that chose not to boycott participating like Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain did and this felt like a curious incongruence?

I guess I expected a similar attitude for the countries that chose not to boycott participating like Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain did and this felt like a curious incongruence? I mean in general, even if you don’t consider the Israel factor, a combination of public votes factoring in and petty nationalism render it kinda a farce as an actual competition. The days you get an ABBA out of it are long gone, and for many the enjoyment is more in camp spectacle, but I digress
It wouldn’t be something that especially interests me anyway, that’s one reason, so I couldn’t really claim in good conscience to be engaging in a boycott, I think that necessitates a denial of something one enjoys on some point of principle, or inconvenience
Aye I mean I don’t think Israel should be included in ostensibly European things (yes I know, Australia etc). Football being one. There’s probably a good argument for more wholesale ostracisation but at the very least don’t effectively do Israel a favour and let it participate in another region
Incidentally where there’s a will there’s a way if one wants to watch, but some nations didn’t just boycott participating this one, they didnt broadcast it domestically either, for those that aren’t aware

If we remove the context of this year, it varies but on a good year you get 4 or 5 songs that are very good. Sure it doesn't always translate to winning because of the politics that you outlined but you don't have to care about that.

90% of the songs sound like AI slop with tiktok dances. Not sure what this has to do with music. But the drama around it is world class soap opera material. I do still listen to Nemo's The Code from time to time though. Good song

The target audience (kids) love it. A constant stream of oh's and ah's. It's not only the simple songs it's the shiny clothes and the stage show spectacle. Plus it's a competition which they always think it's fun.

It's also unbelievably huge within the lgbt "community". When talking to friends and so on within that, you would believe it's the biggest and most important event in the world. Personally I don't get it at all but well, they have tons of fun thanks to it.

Yeah least in my circles it’s big with LGBT folks and (mostly) straight women who enjoy LGBT culture, and not too many else
