![]() or, hrm, I mean: Thrilling! Amasing what todays sience can do. I guess the rotation is caused by the rotation of earth when it is floating in it's frictionless state. Judging from how fast it picks up speed I guess the film is recorded far north or south on the earth, where the rotation is the fastest. Actually one of my friends saw a guy do a similiar trick, it looked really amazing he said!

bannanas make you trip?? Chemical analysis of the banana that caused my psychosis last Thursday is still ongoing, and so far five different psychoactive compounds have been discovered. It is obvious that there is a real danger here that more people may accidentally fall victim to the effects of this latest instance of a growing phenomenon which scientists have dubbed "altered fruit". We can prevent more accidental poisonings, but everyone has to do their part. Please print this sign and place it on top of your microwave: I feel that I should apologize for yesterday's post. While all of the information was technically factual, the manner in which it was presented was entirely unprofessional and inappropriate. Although I am not one to make excuses, there is a logical explanation for my odd behavior: I was having a psychotic episode. Here's what happened. I had bought some bananas a few days ago, and I had left them in the window to ripen. Before I got around to eating the last banana, it was quite ripe, and knowing the dangers of overripe bananas (strychnine poisoning), I brought it in away from the window. I placed it on top of my microwave, not realizing the peril that lay in such an action, and didn't give it another thought. Yesterday afternoon, I ate that banana, and, well, you know the rest. As it turns out, placing a banana on top of your microwave and then running the microwave for around 40 minutes (total), apparently causes powerful psychoactives to be produced within the fruit. I brought the unfinished banana into the lab at the Foundation for Research Advancing Unexplored Disciplines, where I help out in my spare time (you can thank RAUDFound for some of the more impressive Undeniable Fridays ... including today's!), where the good people in the Spectral Analysis Department are working on solving the mystery. I've seen their initial results, and let me tell you: it looks pretty bleak. While the effects of the compromised banana are completely harmless, and almost unimaginably pleasant (the word euphoria comes to mind), I feel obligated to warn my readers away from trying this themselves. This is a drug, and as everyone knows, drugs are bad. Labels: banana, drugs, psychosis, RAUDFound, retraction ...someone try this. and let me know. i would but i have no bannanas.

about the apple rotating because of the rotation of the earth, that's like saying if jump straight up, i'll automatically start rotating. I think it's more because the surface of the apple is not perfect so the rising "heavy" gas causes it to spin. It's kind of like if you blow air from beneath a pingpong ball, it'll levitate. If you put divots in the pingpong ball, it'll spin while levitating.

The only thing that could make an apple flying would be a reaction like when you put a mentos into a coca cola bottle. But that's more like the principle of an explosion which is clearly not the case here.

when the apple starts spinning it looks like there are water drops just sitting on the bottom of the apple.. by logic they should fly off... and after researching the banana thing.. i think its a hoax or urban myth.

I thought I made it clear that I found it a fake and was just joking around. ![]() Since people no longer tries to keep the myth of the floating apple alive we should kill it: 1) If the gas is so heavy, it wouldn't be rising, it would end up under the water. 2) If the gas is so heavy, and created in enough quantities to lift the apple, where does all the mass come from? You cannot create mass from nothing, so the amount of water would have to decrease raplidly, which is doesn't. Those are the two main flaws in the theory part as I see it. Then, since it obviosly is some kind of trick-filming, maybe you could see some evidence from that, like the waterdrops or I don't know...

"When heated, this pectin changes into a form which, chemically, is almost identical to helium." LOL.. just read the article.. it is obviously all bullshit.. plus there is obvious pendulum movement of the apple (i.e hanging by string.).. if it was gas blowing from under the apple would rotate in more than one axis. School does make a difference. Study hard! Half way through high school everyone should know this is all crap.

This is a notorious Joke site. "a vapor which is far heavier than many solids, but which behaves much like a gas." A gas which is heavier than most solids and behaves like a gas? Right.

Seems like rubbish to me. A gas thats heavier than the apple, that evaporates easily into the surronding air, and the level of the liquid doesn't drop over time or there was very little that evaporated. And the gas stays in the vicinity of the apple even though its denser than the apple?

Good thing is unlike the concept of god which can nvr be tested, this site shows you exactly what needs to be done to reproduce the result, so if it cannot be done it'll be disproved easily. About the vapor that lifts the apple. It is possible that it's heavier than air yet still going upward. Have you seen a fountain before? Water is heavier than air yet if you apply some force to it (in this case you boil it upward) it will tend to rise a little before finally falling. So it's basically a fountain of air lifting the apple. However it's still likely to be a fake, have you any idea how freakin heavy an apple is?

If you are knowledgable on these areas of science, you can rule it out. Whether or not the other people in the community believe you is a different issue. As for disproving it, if someone comes on and says they tried it and it didn't work, that doesn't really disprove it. It just starts to discredit it. About the vapor that lifts the apple. So it's basically a fountain of air lifting the apple. However it's still likely to be a fake, have you any idea how freakin heavy an apple is? The explanation says that the fluid has to be heavier than the apple in order for it to work which doesn't really make sense... Also, boiling doesn't create an upward force (aside from bouyancy acting on the new gas) so if you turned the liquid into a gas that was SOMEHOW heavier than air, it wouldn't go up once it got past the top of the liquid. It would also not have enough momentum when it first reached the surface of the liquid to go up significantly past it, as is seen in the video.
