I'm no biggie on science but showing my sibling about this (hes basically a friggin scientist) and after reading how it works; he definatly agreed - then on with about a paragraph worth of explanation I half-understood

Seems like rubbish to me. A gas thats heavier than the apple, that evaporates easily into the surronding air, and the level of the liquid doesn't drop over time or there was very little that evaporated. And the gas stays in the vicinity of the apple even though its denser than the apple?

Oh, it's like 5.40 in the morning here I should go to bed... No joking there! And for the record: yes I was joking!! Apart from the "or, hrm, I mean:" left out of the quote, some signs might be: 1) My later post clarifying that yes, indeed that was a joke. 2) My nice list of argument why that heavy gas couldn't lift the apple. 3) The "haha funny!! " also left out from the quote.me --> bed. cheers! ![]() (I guess this is a perfect example of shitty post that ETT warned us to do... Will I earn myself my first ban?)

Good thing is unlike the concept of god which can nvr be tested, this site shows you exactly what needs to be done to reproduce the result, so if it cannot be done it'll be disproved easily. About the vapor that lifts the apple. It is possible that it's heavier than air yet still going upward. Have you seen a fountain before? Water is heavier than air yet if you apply some force to it (in this case you boil it upward) it will tend to rise a little before finally falling. So it's basically a fountain of air lifting the apple. However it's still likely to be a fake, have you any idea how freakin heavy an apple is?

No matter how much we doubt it it's still believable untill we try it out. hmm~ Good thing is unlike the concept of god which can nvr be tested, this site shows you exactly what needs to be done to reproduce the result, so if it cannot be done it'll be disproved easily. If you are knowledgable on these areas of science, you can rule it out. Whether or not the other people in the community believe you is a different issue. As for disproving it, if someone comes on and says they tried it and it didn't work, that doesn't really disprove it. It just starts to discredit it. The explanation says that the fluid has to be heavier than the apple in order for it to work which doesn't really make sense... Also, boiling doesn't create an upward force (aside from bouyancy acting on the new gas) so if you turned the liquid into a gas that was SOMEHOW heavier than air, it wouldn't go up once it got past the top of the liquid. It would also not have enough momentum when it first reached the surface of the liquid to go up significantly past it, as is seen in the video.
