lol funny to see Vo0 made it on the list with Painkiller.
Painkiller had like the most bizarre scene ever. It had like a playerbase of 100-200 active duel players but some of the best FPS players played it because there was so much money that got pumped into it. Imagine a new RTS comes out and it has such a tiny playerbase but guys like Flash, JD and Stork playing it so you would regularly get matched against them. God I got raped so hard but improved incredibly fast at playing FPS due to it :D

Pretty much yeah.
Also Painkiller was a fantastic game. Damn shame that period was so stacked between Q3/UT2k3/2k4/Painkiller, they all deserved to be really big imo. :<

The article should have been named "The Pro-Gamers with Highest Tournament Earnings" because I think they excluded sponsorship and salary. Good to see so many Dota 2 and SC2 gamers on the list but I'm really surprised not a single LoL players are on the list.
I don't know many other big LoL tournaments outside of the LCS, but when your running your own ship like TSM and CLG then I hear the money can be pretty good. These results shouldn't really surprise anyone because when it comes to DotA2 and SC2 there are plenty of tournaments to go around & a few KeSPA guys really do get paid. In terms of sponsorship dollars there is no shortage when it comes to certain teams, but if we're looking more at tournaments then yeah. Bingo.

Did Grubby not make that much money when he was godly at WC3?

He was also never as godly as Moon or Sky. He was amazing and more consistent but never displayed the same absolute domination as the other two in the peaks of their careers.

Dota2's International 3 prizepool being as big as it is, and still growing, whoever wins that is gonna get in this list for free, if they're not already in there, in which case they're gonna snatch top3. :p

Yeah I noticed that too.
Its quite funny as well that Fatality made a huge chunk of his money playing Painkiller. A game I didn't even know had a competitive scene - I figure it was big as the prize money was monstrous, but still.... wtf?
|
for me its wrong name, because the PAYMENT is ahead of that, so the monthly check + streaming etc but this is only tournament money so ... for me its not "highest payed" guys
|
interesting list, although its kinda meaningless without involving salaries and stream revenue.
but i wonder where all that lol prize money went. this lol season has 5 million prize money and only 1 million out of those 5 are spent on the season finals as far as i know

Reiterating these lists does very little nowadays. Somebody took a calculator and complied known tournament winnings.
Breaking out the actual salaries and other forms of income is what is going to be news-worthy if/once it happens. It's the piece of the puzzle that is missing.
That said, fuck yeah Bisu.

WTF is Painkiller? Millions in prizes in 2004-2005, and I've never heard about it lol
Update: okay, it's just Quake 3 clone... Still don't get it how did they manage to get such prize pools 9 years ago.

Megahealth, armors, rocket launcher, rocket jumps, grenade launcher, teleports, spawn kills... Graphics and level design look similar too. Please educate me about significant differencies between these two games.
