Not part of any official policy as far as I know, but just a personal preference. I think people will still know that it's referring to "Fuck It", so it's not a big deal.

I'm slightly upset with the decision of Teamliquid using a mature word filter for thread titles.

Just want to clarify again that this was my decision based on a preference that profanity not be used in thread titles if it isn't necessary. I didn't consult the rest of the mods or follow some policy that's been implemented, but simply exercised my discretion as a mod on this particular situation. Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is or why anyone would be upset to any degree about the edit.

I personally think that when curse words are used as "sentence enhancers", just like adding "fucking" in a sentence without adding meaning, just making you sound like you wear your pants a few inches lower than the average person, then that word should be removed. In this case though, I feel as the word should certainly be in the title. Anyways I'm not really going to complain about a little thing like that, technically it shouldn't make any difference, maybe it's good, teamliquid getting more class and all. For me I think its down in the nature of a gamer, curse words are not meant to be filtered, I mean you know what it's like when you're skyping with friends when playing, and we all know how much most players despise the nature chat filter. I just would prefer not to see it become a policy, but I understand this was an isolated decision to change the title.

This is the "fuck it" thread phreak. Though perhaps a "your best 'fuck you' moments" thread is in order? As to the topic at hand, I am very conservative, so I never say "fuck it". Ever.

I just would prefer not to see it become a policy, but I understand this was an isolated decision to change the title. I think we're on the same page, but just for the sake of discussion... I have no problems with profanity in general, and definitely understand how prevalent it is amongst the gaming community. Is it sometimes taken to extremes? Sure. But that's what happens when a large amount of the demographic includes young males who are competing with each other, have a nice veil of anonymity, and have the security of not being in a situation where the profanity could result in repercussions. It's not that different from hearing lots of profanity while playing sports, and I think it's fine. However, I think there's a difference between profanity in the midst of conversation/chatting, and another to allow it to pop up in headlines or titles. I'm not going to articulate this well since I'm typing it up quickly while at work, but I think headlines/titles are seen as more official or permanent, while chatting (even in the form of typed text) is unofficial and fleeting. Profanity in chatrooms and in individual posts pass quickly as the conversations progress, with little permanence or lasting impression. On the other hand, headlines and titles are always there and visible. All of that is largely irrelevant as to this situation though because the change was really just a matter of personal preference or taste on my part. I think of TL as a site to be taken seriously, so I like to see it appear that way. Seeing profanity while browsing through the forum index (the real home page for many I think) caught my attention, and I thought to myself that it's not really necessary and would make the site look "cleaner".

Taeja vs Roro was pretty awful in being one-sided so I wouldn't watch that anyway and Curious vs Symbol is still unspoiled since that was a ZvZ as well.

It was about 7 AM for me and I was about to go to sleep when my friend called me as I was laying in bed, and told me that she had to go home to San Diego before noon for a particularly important appointment, and that everyone else she asked said no. I was really close to just hanging up and going to sleep. I laid there for a solid minute with my eyes shut muttering to myself. "Just as I was about to go to bed... why didn't she call me earlier... why is it always me... I'm really tired..." Eventually I just said "fuck it", called her back and drove her down from Los Angeles to San Diego. Had to gulp down some energy drinks for the 200 mile trip there and back. 7 hours later I was in my bed again and I had this really peculiar feeling where I wanted to stay up, go to bed and kill myself for doing something so stupid.

May I join in the discussion as the OP? I think FiWiFaKi's argument mirrors mine. There is a world of difference between profanities that are used randomly in conversation to express the emotion of the speaker or to make the statement sound cool and urgent, to ones that are essential, in this case the entire phrase "Fuck It!" to describe the tone of the moment. In this regard: 1. Please edit back the title. 2. I hope this does not become TL policy Thanks.

I'm playing UFO: Enemy Unknown (the 1994 version), invading a muton base (Think "orcs in space with plasma rifles and rocket launchers"). Everything starts out ok, but then I lose a soldier, a second one, half my team panics and I end up with only one soldier alive, with particularly poor stats as it is. Usually in these cases I want to reload but the reason I play this game is to experience a game where defeat is possible and what happens is actually meaningful, so I go "FUCK THIS RAMBO MODE" and make lil'Gorby stand up for the human race. Nevermind the fact he's faced against 10 aliens alone with nothing but a laser rifle, he dodges each and every shot thrown at him, reacts and kills each time a muton comes up to him in enemy's turns, and I actually roll good hits on the ETs. I first kill one, hide, then two appear and are promptly dispatched on their turn, the fourth was hiding behind the corner I was going so he ends up dead, another two die in reaction fire while they miss their 8 shots (keep in mind Gorby has no armor and would be one-shotted by any of these savages). I end up forced to go in open space for fear of grenades and blaster launchers (equivalent of rocket launchers, but the rocket has waypoints so you don't need line of sight). My soldier runs and screams, finds yet another Muton, kills him, has no TU left (action points), have to end the turn... and there it happens. "Victory". Gorby was promptly renamed "Gorby the hero" and has survived another base invasion since. He may not be my commander but he is tied for the best stats, and has the best ratio of kills/mission (it was his first one! and he got 10 kills!) May be stupid or ininteresting but I'm usually a save-scummer and losing an entire squad just to have one hero destroy the alien's base was too awesome for me not to mention ^-^ EDIT: Waoh Ghostcom that's quite a story there :D awesome for you !
