http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_peroxide#Therapeutic_use

" In 1928 Richard Simmons, M.D. hypothesized that colds and flu virus enter through the ear canal. His findings were dismissed by the medical community. According to Dr. Simmons, contrary to what you may think or have been taught about how you catch the flu or the cold there is only one way that you can catch the two, and that's via the ear canal not through the eyes or nose or mouth as most have believed.
Keeping your fingers out of your ears will greatly reduce your chances of catching them, but then again these two are microscopic and can be air-born and may land on or even in your ear. Once they have entered the inner-ear (middle-ear) there they begin their breeding process, and from there they have access to every avenue throughout our body to travel to and to infect and make us sick.
In 1938 German researchers had great success using hydrogen peroxide in dealing with colds and the flu. Their data has been ignored for over 60 years..."

"Although it would appear to contradict what we are taught about the flu and colds, many people have tried hydrogen peroxyde in the ears with great success. Hydrogen peroxide works quite well and is supposed to be effective about 4 times out of 5, especially if done when the symptoms first appear."

"Another therapeutic use of hydrogen peroxide is to cure colds and flus. Some alternative medicine practitioners recommend inserting a few drops into each ear at the first sign of a cold. According to their claims, for most people, this will eliminate the cold virus at first attempt within a few hours, with stated 80% success rate. However the medical evidence of its efficacy is lacking."

Anybody can confirm any of this?

If this is true we will all have a good victory ahead of us. Also how deep into the ears do we have to put this? lol

i dunno, i'd think the fizzing sound would be ear shattering, potentially damaging to the drum if it actually came in contact, and basically it's a good idea never to put shit in your ears, aside from the occasional q-tip...
I went to the chippy last night and only orderd chips because I knew I could get fish from her bushy plate.

I've put hydrogen peroxide into my ears before with a q-tip because it helps eliminate cuts. The fizzing is not a problem at all. But if it prevents colds then that is good :D

Lol ur nuts... you're not gonna put what, 100% H2O2 down your ear haha :p
I had some ear cannal infections and I use H2O2 to cure it, it's perfectly safe inside your ear.
I happy, thus I run.

meh, i just read an article about someone who had a baby spider get into their ear canal once, and it sounded like someone firing a machine gun against their head every time it walked around. Figured this was some crazy ploy to get people to fuck themselves up, not that wikipedia is known for their lies.

"Remarkable results can be achieved in curing colds and the flu within 12-14 hours when we administer a few drops of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) into each ear. The H2O2 starts working within 2-3 minutes in killing the cold or flu. There will be some bubbling and in some cases mild stinging might occur. I do this myself and I can assure you that it is not painful in any way. It tickles more than anything.

Wait until the bubbling subsides - usually a few minutes - then drain onto a tissue and repeat with the other ear."

That doesn't sound right. Hasn't it been proven that the cold/flu can enter through mouth/nose/whatever.

How exactly does it make sense that it could enter through the ear but no the others? I don't know enough on the subject to make a claim of what is or isn't right, but just based on common sense it sounds like a load of bull.

As for h-peroxide in your ear, it's ok to use sometimes, but it can be very irritating if used often. That shit drys the hell out of skin. Dermatologists used to tell patients to clean their skin with it to avoid acne, but as it turned out the drying effect of the h-p was very noticable after a long period of use. Dry cracked, old looking skin was the result.

So I'd imagine that if you used it in your ear for long stretches of time you'de have dry/cracked/painful skin in your ear.

I'm surprised nobody knew this, yes it's true. When I was younger I used to have a lot of earwax and the doctors told me to clean my ears out with hydrogen peroxide. I no longer have tons of earwax but I still use it periodically. It works like a charm and leaves your ears feeling squeaky clean.

And about it shattering your eardrum and cracking your ear canal ROFL

theres a lot of things that can cure stuff but medicine companies won't let the public know about it why? because they are there for a profit

look at the guy years and years ago the day before he was to release his engine that ran on water... the next day him and his entire family linage was dead... ?

that sounds fake

since they are viruses, once you start to feel symptoms, the cold/flu has already spread to enough places (e.g. the throat) so that even killing viruses at the ear tissue with hydrogen peroxide wouldn't have an effect
And this hot potato has vanished into thin air.

also to note:
why the would a virus enter through your ear? going through the mouth is much more efficient. you have both a wet surface (very important) AND a place where you would come into contact with the most airborne viruses. nig

My doctor informally recommended hydrogen peroxide in the ear to my family as a child. It cleans wax out good, too. It will fizz when it's in there and it will feel really cold, but it cleans that shit out.

I too dont see how this would counteract most colds(As someone already said, once you feel that you are sick, its already in your throat and its too late).. But I guess next time I get sick I would try it.
