edit: changed from Chinese to a Chinese mob to not label the whole nation.

Most of the animosity against Japan is in the Koreas (Aside from China) in the region, most south east asia and pacific island nations haven't held a grudge against japan even with their campaigns in the second world war, but that's mostly because other more recent events overshadowed them (Vietnam / Indochina / Sino-Indian wars, as well as wide American backing and support for these countries). Japan is widely held as having a more positive influence in Indonesia for example, and Japan's been growing as the center or high tech trade and commerce for the Pacific region. Most of the countries are more Anti-China than pro-Japan though.

Update: From friend at inland Chinese university: "mechanical engineering department just sent out a mass text message urging everyone to enter the advanced materials courses for the next year, to 'learn how to protect Chinese honor by building weapons to exterminate the Japanese.'"
Update #5: Protests continuing; now images have made front page of reddit lol.
Some employees at an Audi dealership hold up a banner that reads "Even if China is full of graves, we need to kill every last Japanese; even if China is turned into a wasteland, it will not stop us from reclaiming the Diaoyu Islands"
Soooooo, they basically want to commit genocide of Japanese people in China? What the hell. I hope people see how ridiculous this is.

I guess the owners of the Audi dealership do.

Trust me the people who see how ridiculous this is the most is the Chinese people. People are just scared.

The cognitive dissonance of the protests can be seen from space. Reading Weibo would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that that a lot of people on my Facebook are showing the same sort of dissonance.
We're talking about crying over your bashed up Japanese car after you've taken part in protests smashing up Japanese stuff.

There's going to be stupid people who will say "Audi supports genocide."

There's so much shit flying around, it'll get buried within a few hours and no one will remember that Audi dealership.

german korean and chinese car manufacturers are definitely rubbing their hands in glee

Jesus, what is Asia hurdling towards? There really needs to be some international intervention in Asia ASAP, or this will slowly snowball into a huge crisis which is further compounded by the history and hatred the two countries have. Seems ridiculous the Chinese would injure or kill their own just because they own a Japanese product, it is as someone on Reddit said, "Being angry at someone and ruining your own furniture".

In the case of Chinese car manufacturers, most are basically clones of Japanese cars, which makes BYD handing out Corolla-clones to patriots burning their own cars even more funny.

China really seems like its stoking its citizens's anger. It wants war. It wants to conquer.

Intervene what lol? You want people to march into China and stop the protests? Or someone to litigate the dispute? Asian countries are not kids for the Western parents to keep from getting out of control.

On what subject? Some dumb remark trying to justify one kind of retarded vandalism vs the other? You're right, you might be too deep for this thread.

China is in an awkward position for confrontation. The country is in the midst of a leadership transition, and the Japanese mayor chose this time to make a bid for the islands, leading to their nationalization. But at the same time, this is not an event where China is willing to back down, because the incoming leadership and the outgoing leadership are both trying to cement their image. I imagine that only a face saving gesture is going to cool things down. Wait and see.

I am Chinese and I think this is just ridiculous. I do not mind the peaceful protest but riots are just insane. I do not live in China and only visit and I really do not care if Japan has the Daiuyo Islands

The Tokyo governor did such a thing. The national government did a completely different thing to prevent him from getting the islands and developing on it. The idea was to lower tensions but of course hearing what people are talking about on CCTV, people didn't get the full message. You can't really equate the actions of Ishihara and his fiefdom with the national Japanese government.
