You know, it's always easy to point at the politicians, but this is actually a problem with a sector of the general populous in Chinese people and their inferiority complex against Japan / western super powers that stemmed from post WWII / cold war era living standards. That populous does include politicians but this behavior is hardly officially endorsed, ofcourse the principle reasons why it's not endorsed is not principle regard for human rights or racial equality but upcoming shift in political power in China. Keep in mind that this sector of the general populous is still in the vast minority but because China has such a high population it tends to show.

Read the OP or don't post at all because you are not providing any contribution beside ignorance.

the OP is telling me nothing other than china is mad on a large scale

Kwarks post tells me that china is pissed off because of japan's conduct in world war 2

therefore, what is china so mad about? i dont get pissed off at the germans for killing my grandfather in WW2

I think you would be pissed off at the Germans if they celebrated Hitler and Goebbels in a religious monument that the top political personnel as well as portions of the populous pay tribute to on a yearly basis.

If the Germans forced millions of Britons into slave labor I think you'd feel differently.

What do you think the Anti-German sentiment in Israel or among the Jewish community is like? Thats with all the concessions that Germany has made following WW2.

Jews harbouring irrational hatred towards Germans doesn't justify Chinese harbouring irrational hatred towards Japanese. There's a difference between expressing outrage at historical injustices and xenophobia.

Both types of hatred are directed at countries - ie collectives - rather than individuals, and neither are irrational insofar as hatred is rational at all. Bad blood exists because the collective memory of pain and suffering is a potent force in keeping tribes aware of their potential enemies, and to dissuade said enemies. Imagine that the Chinese forgave the Japanese after a single generation - then the Japanese have nothing to fear about pissing off the Chinese because they know they're going to be forgiven after a single generation, which makes it less risky to attack the Chinese.

Indeed, the Japanese counted on just that when they invaded China - one of their arguments for war was that because the Chinese had accepted Manchu rule after the Qing conquest, they were going to accept Japanese rule, too. What they miscalculated was that by this time nationalism was in full swing in East Asia and the average person was no longer so apathetic toward the fate of their countries.

WWII they get to push back, and literally thousands of years of revenge was taking place as the Japanese did some of the most heinous acts such as force fathers to rape daughters.

EDIT: When did Korea invade Japan? You did not provide links. AFAIK it didn't happen.

Them and Mongolia were buddy/buddy and wherever Mongolian troops went Koreans were close by. Yeah Japan invaded Korea as well but that was a resounding loss for Japan.

Now Im getting confused as well, this shit is hyper entangled and even when the two werent outright warring its not like they really respected eachother at all ever.

You're confused? Well then stop spouting off BS that you think is fact then. It only adds to the misunderstanding of East Asian history thanks. You're comments :

I feel that China would be perfectly capable of pulling a 4th reich - ppl are angry, hungry and underwhelmed after some history of getting shit on. Growing industrial base, shitton of ppl and lack of natural resources - if this wasn't 2012 I'd be imagining all kinds of events

Thats what China is so pissed off about and yeah its an old story. Japan will tell you "they started it first" and then they would be right as well.

So its pretty much as KwarK said. There is really no stopping this hate train. For so very long Japan hated the entire world around it because of all of the threats to invade. Which is why up until 100 or so years ago they completely closed themselves off to the world.

China has being trying to invade Japan? What crack are you smoking? LOLs...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_of_Japan

It was called mongolia then.

Korea tried as well.

Hey guess what mongolia wanted. Oh right some islands. SOUNDS FAMILIAR. And we also have.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_invasions_of_Korea_(1592–1598)

Some pushing back. Needless to say there is a lot of war going on here. These are all good reads by the way. If you have the time.

Mongols invaded and conquered China/Korea then wanted to conquer Japan. I would hardly call that a Chinese invasion. I will give you points though as China consider yuan dynasty part of their history.

lol fuck my life.

Just finished washing my boss's car doing all the work myself... because well fuck, all the car wash places I went to refused me service since it's a Toyota Landcruiser.

Oh and it took me 3 tries to 3 different gas stations across town to fill up the tank as well.

Sigh, hoping this ends soon.

Heh, I'm sure Japanese car makers are shaking their heads while car makers from outside of Japan are grinning with anticipation for the opportunities in the aftermath.

Going to be risky, in a lot of Chinese regions, to buy a Japanese car for a while.

Many of you people are being rather unfair to Japan. Yes, I realize the Japanese invasion of Manchuria was particularly brutal. Have a look and see if your own countries have issued as many apologies for their own centuries worth of misdeeds.

The fact that people like this are even allowed near Japanese politics:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuko_Tojo

people may argue that politicians are a select few, but the general apathy of the public to allow such things to be passable is unacceptable

Then what are apologies when http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasukuni_Shrine there are monuments and shrines honoring convicted war criminals from WW2. And subsequent visits from Japanese politicians, prime ministers etc are very insincere

Well now that you've mentioned about the high population density of China, I sort am seeing this incident in a different scope. My memory of the countries is rather a blur with my hometown still being in constructions for the Skyscrappers that me and my childhood pals used to fondle around in search for high quality metals from the site so we could sell it for marbles. Perhaps it was that was the memory that I took with myself when I entered into a new nation filled with houses and generally a much lower populated space that rendered my notion of a 'mob' to be less anticipated in terms of participant. Hey for all I know this could just be some hipsters while the rest of the population scorned at them for being maniacs.

Let's just hope that what you've said is aright and that this incident isn't really a big of a deal.

question for people living in Asian countries as of this moment: What is the general sentiment around these issues in Korea, Taiwan, Phillipines etc... i know in South East Asia there has been lots of animosity towards the chinese, are they more Pro-Japanese? Whats the feeling like in Korea after the Dokdo Islands issue flared up again?
