That headache, nausea, thirst and fatigue you feel are all symptoms of dehydration. Follow these steps to eliminate those symptoms and get back to feeling your best.
Steps: 1. Drink water as soon as you get up in the morning to rehydrate yourself. If possible, have a sports drink. The electrolytes and nutrients in a sports drink can replenish your body's depleted reserves.
2. Drink even more water if you plan to have coffee. Caffeine is a mild diuretic and can contribute to dehydration.
3. Stick to liquids that are at room temperature. Drinks that are excessively hot or cold will be even more of a shock to your struggling stomach.
4. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as aspirin or ibuprofen to relieve a pounding headache or body aches.
5. Eat easily digestible foods when you're ready. Fresh fruit, toast and water-based soups are all easy on the stomach. Harder-to-digest foods such as eggs and milk can cause stomach problems.
6. Relax, rest or go back to bed. Allow some time for your body to feel positive effects from your treatments.
Tips: Take preventive measures beforehand: Drink responsibly and in moderation. If you've drunk in excess and suspect you'll be hung over the next morning, drink a few glasses of water right before you go to bed.
Rehydrate yourself with liquids that are at room temperature. Drinks that are excessively hot or cold will make your struggling stomach work even more.
Warnings: Do not take an acetaminophen-based painkiller to relieve symptoms. Combining acetaminophen and alcohol can damage your liver. Consider ibuprofen instead.
If you are an excessive drinker, use caution when taking any over-the-counter painkillers.

Eat menudo by Edith Eating this Mexican stew, menudo, is the only thing that works for me. Put lots of lime juice in seltzer water and drink it. You'll start feeling better fast.
If you can, walk on the treadmill to break a sweat and drink tons of water.

I thought this might come in handy for you new years partiers. Got it off wikipedia how-to thingy.
Another tip I can give is not to drink beer. Stick to hard liquor and you should be fine. I've never, ever had a hangover after a night of straight vodka.
Oxygen, I bet you've either not drinking in extreme excess, or have alot of terrible stories. Lots of hard alchohol makes you do very dumb things. (Friends have lost control of their bowels, pissed in there closet, jumped out a secondy story window onto pavement, light someone on fire to the point of him having to go the emergency room (almost died) and get extensive plastic surgery ect)
Drink lots of water and eat lots of food, then sleep on your stomach and you'll be good. Time is the only cure for a hang over, those tips just make you not worsen your hangover.
Also, liqour before beer and your in the clear, beer before liqour makes you sicker is a rule some of my friends apparently live by.
Most of my hangovers really come form beer, since I probably dehydrate the most. For me if I'm not dead-drunk works this - I try not to sleep too much, instead after not more than 6 hours I wake and drink water, even take a shower. Repeat this several times to rehydrate properly. If u take a deep sleep for a 8-9 hours your body will dehydrate too badly and will require a whole day of rest.
I was told by an anaesthetist that dexamethasone cures the hangover. (damn I forgot to get some dexamethasone -.-) as far as im concerned, this is the only real cure - everything else seems to be prevention really. water (and abstinence) is probably the best preventer.
and where's the fun in that Zpux? i just drink like 1,5 liters of water when i get home. helps a little but it doesn't matter if i have a headache when i wake up, because it was probably worth it

That's the problem. Hard alcohol is very difficult to control perfectly. One (strong) drink can knock you out so fast that you wont believe it

what about liquor beer liquor? or beer liquor beer?
i sugest not mixing those, stick with one thing. last time i got drunk i went beer-liquor-almost beer. Almost beer because i was gg before i could finish it lol
It's not rocket science. Keep sipping on a bottomless glass of water while you sober up and there will be no hangover.
Suggesting all these different ways to rehydrate yourself and calling each individual one a "new unique hangover cure" seems kind of frivolous to me. It all comes back to drinking water.
No Aunt Jamima milkshakes with raw egg and Pepto Bismol, just drink water idiot.
What do Chaser tablets say on the packaging, "Take 1 chaser tablet with 4 full glasses of water to relieve hangover symptoms"?
problem with beer is everyone gives it to you! I really like beer but not when I go out. It makes you sweat, gives you bad breath, is heavy on the stomach. I prefer straight vodka shots all the way and take pauses in between to see how im doing. but yesterday i started off with loads of beer then champaign then beer champagin vodka beer vodka, needless to say i was fcked;p went to bed at 7 or so woke up at 6
Rofl, The reason I don't like hard alchohol is because the more drunk I get, the more I want to drink, so usually I end up drinking alot more then I would of beer, because beer fills the stomach and thus its harder to drink as much. We normally have plenty of alchohol around too, like a huge $20 bottle a person, so it causes problems :D
I also like drinking beer becuase you can sit there and play Pong, or 7 11 doubles, or fuck the dealer, or circle of death, all of which are terribly difficult to play with hard alchohol. =]
urgh, need a bump. i just had the shittiest night lol puked all over the place i was having drinks at last night because i drank two bottles of vodka and rum raw.
i have a light headache but a shitty stomach, i feel like i'm going to puke anytime. what should i do to cure that?

Go puke, you'll feel better. :p
I don't normally get any hungover symptoms, but one time I did (I blame the coke in the rum and coke).
I got really bad heart-burn, and was eating Tums all night. It didn't work, and I ended up having to puke to get the acid out of my stomach.
So, go let it out, then make a nice pot of Shin Ramyun with eggs and scallions in it to make yourself feel better.

This is super solid advice. I never get hungover when I remember to drink plenty of water before passing out. I'm going to do this exact thing right now, in fact.
also, if you hate acetaminophen, you can just take ibuprofin and caffiene. The key is painkiller + caffiene. It's soooooo good at killing hangover headaches.

Doing this in 15min, i hope to get in about 1 liter. Which is about .25 gallons for you americans? Feels good in the morning man.
I'm a big piss head, Water before you go to sleep. all you can drink, take a piss before bed. Wake-up during the middle of the night if you can and drink some more water sleep again. Eat bananas and don't drink coffee or caffeine/sugary drinks.
Add to stay away from sugary alcoholic drinks. Beer, mix drinks, fruity drinks, etc. The more sugar you have, the more dehydrated you get and therefore the worse the hangover.

this, i don't know why. waking up and eating a terribly unhealthy, large meal has always been a go to thing for me. that and drinking shitloads of water and maybe a powerade.
I get a horrible hangover from any amount of alcohol (talking half a shot here) and i'll start to want to vomit after about 3 shots. I also get drunk off 1 shot
I have the asian gene deficiency to the extreme. /sadface
I drink so much water before I sleep, then wake up in the middle of the night, piss, then drink more water. Usually does the trick for me. If I'm still feeling crap when I wake up I'll usually take a Long, Boiling hot shower followed by some sort of greasy, unhealthy breakfast.

I had a drinking night in Gdansk once with only Polish friends, and I was hangover for 48 hours. Hangover like I thought I was gonna die. And I drunk only vodka.
Okay, I dunno if this applies but I have the worse excstasy downer on the planets... How do I get rid of the fact that I don't give a shit anymore, and want to die?
I smoked weed already, made it worse. What's going on.. I can't stop listening to this song
The best hangover cure is prevention. Drink a shitload of water and eat something substantial (bread is good) throughout the night and before bed. I have had maybe one or two hangovers in my life and they've both been times that I ate/drank very little before going to bed.
It really surprises me that people don't do this. It's so obvious and it takes next to no effort.
You only need to drink 1L of water before going to sleep (if you can). It does not matter how drunk you are, the next morning you wont have that terrible headache
If you havge forgotten to drink water, drink alcohol when you get up that works too.
Ok, i used to have a lot of problems with hangovers when i first started drinking. now two years later i rarely get hangovers.. i think this is a bad thing.. maybe i am becoming alcohol tolerant lol.
Regardless i can tell you that drinking a fuck ton of water before you crash at night is the best thing you can do unless you are really pedantic and can get a drink of water in between each alcoholic drink you consume. And if you are prepared enough a berocca or some sort of sports electrolyte drink removes the dehydration aspect of hangovers.
The worst situation is where you sober up while asleep.. for some reason this causes a sick stomach feeling and no matter what you eat you still feel like shit in your stomach.. and i have no answer for this.
On what drinks are best for hangovers... well i guess for me it is vodka. i can polish off a lot of vodka (straight, mixing is what gives you hangovers sugars etc.) I usually start on beer and then end up on harder drinks like bourbon/vodka. To be honest managing to get drunk on beer is a very hard thing to do because it is so much volume to alcohol.
My usual method is to prevent it before it happens: sober up before you go to sleep.
I've never had a hangover if I avoid sleeping until I'm sober.
On the rare occasion that I go to sleep drunk, Advil/Ibuprofen and lots of water is definitely the way to go. Also, get some food into your stomach. No greasy foods or overly sugary snacks either. Something that's easy on the stomach but can fill you up.
Also, big hint for drinking in any amount: take a multi-vitamin regularly. Drinking can deplete your body of a lot of necessary resources, especially vitamin B. Multi-vitamins keep you healthy and restore your balance/energy the next day too.
The only long-term negative consequences that have ever been linked to alcohol by reputable studies resulted from extremely low vitamin B levels in alcoholics. Take your vitamins!
I suffer a lot from throwing up the day after : ( It is entirely depending on how much water I drink though. If I dont drink any water before I go to sleep\throughout the night of drinking, i will probably get hung over\throw up even if i drank very little, but if i drink enough water I can drink as much alcohol as I want to and feel completely fine day after. So I just usually pound 2+ liters of water before I go to bed when I am done drinking alcohol.
Of course water is the best preventative measure you can take, it also has the bonus that when you wake up at night to piss, you can drink even more, but I feel that hangover cures are more about what to do if you've failed to drink water before crashing.

I've been getting these hangovers recently. I'm pretty sure the idea that drinking only spirits is a way to avoid hangovers is wrong, because this is the hangover I get from drinking spirits and its so much worse than my beer hangovers. Maybe its easier to avoid a hangover if you drink spirits, but if I drink enough to pass out before I can drink enough water this is what I end up with. The worst is drinking beer and then drinking spirits (my judgement goes out of the window here), I've done shit like go to the shops for a couple more beers and come back with a bottle of whiskey, which then gets finished faster than I'd manage the beers.
You need to drink water and eat food, part of the reason you feel so bad is that your stomach is basically empty, but you will feel like you're going to throw up every time you eat and drink so just take it slow. A fry up is best, but I often don't feel up for cooking and resort to heating up leftovers or something that can cook on its own while I lie down and feel sorry for myself.
On September 25 2011 10:28 Obstikal wrote: Best way to avoid hang overs is to remain drunk.
Simple.
Its so true. When I get hangovers at music festivals a beer normally cures it, but it can't work as a cure at any other time, because I'm pretty sure that's the sign of an alcoholic and I'd prefer to avoid that.

Unfortunately I don't think there's a cure to midweek blues, your brain is deficient in serotonin because it let it all out in one go, and you'll feel like that until it replenishes it's levels, if its that bad you should probably stop taking MD man, or take less at least. If you take a break you'll find you get a much stronger effect too.
I really want to try multivitamins, I've heard wondrous things about them helping hangovers and really think I should buy myself a big box.

Yes I took a multi-V and no I didn't do a shitload of X just one tablet, just that I had never had a hangover that depressing in my life.
It's KINDA gone, when I can't play sc2 no more due to lack of motivation, I know I'm on my downer . .
Drinking lots of water is the number one thing, just drink drink and drink before you go to sleep. And have a fatty breakfast and that's what I find works the best. Lots of milk/eggs/bacon.
And if you learn to drink to the point where you aren't vomiting you'll tend to have more fun and the handover isn't nearly as bad.
The trick to hangovers is to avoid them. Best way to do this is to never stop drinking. There are a lot of little things you can do to help yourself reach this goal.
1) Replace all non-alcoholic beverages with the beer, wine, or cooler of your choice. Toss out the juices, remove your water filter, cancel your water bottle service. This goes for you who enjoy mixed drinks, too: the presence of juices is too great a temptation, at least for the first month. You don't want to get halfway there, only to start drinking juice STRAIGHT, do you? Trust me, you don't: the hangover isn't worth it!
2)Change your sleep schedule to accommodate your avoidance strategy. Sleeping 7-10 hours per night, regularly, is a bad idea. Its too long for your body to go without alcohol, and as a result, invites the hangover. Take a look at your local winos: they sleep several times per day, and only moderately at night. There is the off chance that you could pass out for too long, and wake up with a terrible headache beginning to pound the inside of your skull. This brings me to the next point...
3)ALWAYS have alcohol available. Sometimes you'll be away from home, or you'll sleep for too long. This is BAD, and must be avoided. The old standby hip-flask can get you from breakfast until lunch, if you pace yourself; but it is only a first step. Get creative! This is the fun part! Stash booze in readily-accessible places around your house, and secret hideaways at work. Tape a bottle to the underside of your desk (use strong tape so it doesn't fall; don't use super glue!), hide one behind (or inside of) your suit of medieval plate armor, wear a beer helmet around the house or while you run errands.
4)Have a support group. Avoiding hangovers is a challenge, especially for the first month. Make sure to do it with friends. Bar regulars are usually welcoming to new comrades, since they're on the same mission as you. And if they're initially hesitant, show them you're a good buddy to have, and help them avoid their hangover by buying them a round. Remember: If support can't be given, it can usually be bought.
These are just the first steps of the plan I've been living by for several years (and with any luck, a handful more!). I'll post the others when I remember them, as things tend to come and go nowadays. But this should be enough to get you well on your way to avoiding hangovers thru constant intake of alcohol.
Remember: hangovers are caused by the absence of alcohol, and no one wants a hangover.
Water before bed definitely works the best, but let's face it, sometimes it's kinda hard to remember during a night of drinking... Therefore you have to do something the next morning when you wake up all nauseous and achy.
The Problem: This happened to me one specific occasion where I was very drunk the night before (a few AMFs will do that...) and I needed to work on a project for the next 12 hours. It had to be done that day. I was hungover to the point that I could have puked at any moment.
Solution: Like many of you said in this thread, greasy/unhealthy food and sports drinks help. I went to McDonald's, ordered a large fry and super-sized Powerade, and half-hour later was ready to go like nothing happened last night. I was honestly surprised how quickly it worked.
I went to my cousin's 21st birthday party yesterday. Had like at least 5 beers, several shots of Crown Royal, JD, and other various hard liquor. I took like two shots of Bacardi 151 at the end and I passed out. Don't remember how I got home, but in the middle of the night I vomitted on my bed and floor. Spent the morning cleaning up the mess.
If you live in California, pho after a long night of drinking is like heaven. My personal preference is to follow up with a cup of coffee. Drink plenty of water throughout the rest of the day.
