There's a difference. Not in America. Middle is working. Rich don't work, or they are at the TOP of their career fields middle class do everything poor do nothing Americans don't have a working class. No, what you are is working class who believes he's middle class despite lacking the education, background, money, security and prospects. In fact, everything the middle class have that the working class don't. What's happened to you is at some point in your life you've been told you're not working class so you can feel like you're not at the bottom of the social order being assfucked by everyone above you and it sounded like a nice fiction so you accepted it. The fact that you still actually have to work for your living, you can't afford health insurance, something as simple as a broken arm will wipe out your entire healthcare budget for two years (7k to fix, you saved 300/month) and you'll never be able to afford to send your kids to a good university has somehow escaped you. You've been told that there is some magical class below you which you should look down upon and they're why you have no money for shit and that you're middle class. You're not and you probably never will be because social mobility is at an all time low. What you are is a sucker. Your pride has pushed you into believing this absurd lie to protect your ego from the obvious, that you work harder and have less to show for it than pretty much everyone else. You are that bizarre creature found propping up the base of societies where social mobility is in steady decline and wealth is pooling at the top, the working class who truly believes that he's being rewarded by the status quo and the problem is a mythical underclass who look exactly like him. I lack education. I hold a 4 year degree from the 3rd most prestious school in my state. I earned my way through that school (government didn't give me money to go to school--except highschool) You say I don't have security? I have an M16/M4 and soon an AK-47. If you meant security as in economical security- I have good work ethic and am not too proud to get my hands dirty. that's job security. I have money put aside as well- and will soon own my own home here in about 2 years with only a small loan that may be required. I am educated enough to know that the market sucks right now and buying a home is a great idea (buy low sell high simple enough right). I am not the lowest on the pole. I am an Officer in the military thanks to the 4 year degree I got through hard work. Thousands make less than I do. I was smart enough to put money aside for college, my parents didn't have to give me one penny. Now is it true that I couldn't afford to go to UK or UoL (the 1 and 2nd most presitious schools in my state). It is- but I coulda worked harder. Maybe I shouldn't of bought that nice car I had right outa highschool knowing a young male gets charged more insurance when he has a sporty car. I coulda put more money aside. I hold myself responsible for that choice. I am grateful for who I am and what I've done. I am proud and humble at the same time. Do others get an unfair advantage over me-- sure they do. People born from rich homes. People who know the CEO at w/e business. Can I dispite that, dispite a declining American society still achieve all my goals? Yes. Can I buy that home I mentioned in 2 years time, yes. Can I get married and maybe some day have kids, yes Can I worship my God in peace, yes Can I go to events like blizzcon, Yes I can- and yes I have. Can I afford a nice cpu that i'm using right now to type this, Yes I can, yes I am. Perhaps it is you who--to use your own words-- are the 'sucker' who thinks the grass is always greener on the otherside. Who is willing to believe that you somehow have been cheated by society, and that you arn't responsible for your own actions. Perhaps your lack of effort is your reason for any possible failures you may or may not have in your life.

But I'd have to say, if your answer to any kind of 'being poor' is 'join the military', I'd have to say that simply cannot work. The US couldn't accept everyone who is suddenly unemployed - what will a fifty-year-old man do if he is fired from his job so the company can save money? He's not going to pass basic training, now, is he? The US couldn't employ every single person who needed a job, it can't afford it. So they'd have to go private sector, so go for those low-paying, no health insurance jobs that I was mentioning, which wouldn't raise you from being classified as poor. Next - there are a number of jobs that simply will not pay you enough to raise yourself out of poverty, not without working 50 or 60 hours a week, which isn't possible if, for example, you had a child, or a sick relative/spouse to care for. Who is going to pay a cleaner more than minimum wage? What about waitresses? Busboys, kitchen staff, landscapers? There are so many jobs that need people to work in them, and all the education in the world cannot make those jobs disappear. Frankly, it's why I am working a low-paying job - I have a degree, I followed your 'handup' formula but there aren't that many jobs nearby, especially not for a person without a car. Me working in that low-paying job means a person with less education is working a worse one, or is without a job. If everyone was educated and had qualifications they'd still have to fill those minimum wage jobs - hell, I could have a masters but I'm not going to get paid more for cleaning a toilet. Please stop making sweeping statements like 'people are too proud to do dirty jobs'. You are not a martyr, we've all done the dirty jobs. There just aren't enough jobs out there for the workforce, and the ones that are there have less pay and less hours than they did ten years ago. It doesn't matter how determined you are or how hard you work, if that high-paying job isn't there then you are s.o.l.

And the Stalin rant you are going on almost makes it sound like you would not mind the poor dying on the street provided the rich do not have to pay higher taxes. I was thinking really hard of a way that the poor contribute to a society and that was all I could think up. People don't want to be told what to do or think. Liberals (the left socialist movement) are already trying to take soda away from people. I personally think people need to slim down- we got alot of fat bodies in America (note if your fat your not going hungry, hence no one feels sorry for you) I do not however want to tell someone to put the soda down, it is there choice to be self destructive if they so choose. All I ask is that you don't take me down with you--like poor people who take away from my tax dollars. In only this page, you've described how hard you work for the small amount of money you don't want to have to part with. Why are you doing such jobs? What else might you do? How much might you make? Do you realize how much money other people can take home on the back of what people like you are doing? Look what happened to you when you broke a bone. What happens if you suffer a more serious injury? How have you managed to convince yourself you're free? Can you convince me? Edit: Kwark isn't pulling his punches, but what he's written is true. I don't think you're all poor by any stretch- some of you may be more well off than me. Larger assets, more security though maybe not in terms of firepower, I must say I am good with my M4--all kidding aside-- I do think you all believe in a pro socialism/progressive movement. That movement will kill. That movement will harm. Do you know what happens when have and have nots meet? Death. Usually for the Have nots-- in the event that the Have nots win- they become haves and start oppressing the new have nots. It's a sad cycle of life- but history has and always will repeat its self. I choose not to play the game- even though I often get thrown into it. You all fear a status quo- I don't. The American status quo is still a land of opportunity. If I wanted more in terms of material possession- I could obtain it. I could get off TL.net right now and go learn a skill at the free educational centers America has been blessed with (build and funded by the rich btw) and put that skill to use and earn more. I however do not need more, I am happy. I am satisfied. I worry not about what others do, so long as they leave me alone. In a socialistic world you tear down the rich and make them poor, the poor become wealthy- but the society rots as production turns into nothingness. If we all get paid the same- why work hard? Why work at all? If there is no competetion, there is no reason to ever improve.

Many of the clips in the video I had seen before, but some I did not. I especially love the blaming Bush parts, calling him irresponsible for raising the debt, promising to cut it in half, but then raising it even more himself (in half the time).

Did you actually have to do something (laws differ from state to state)? It varies from state to state. Most states, like mine, require a simple application along with a certificate showing basic pistol training. Others require more. A couple require nothing at all.

It's quite amazing. You're right the Military is most certainly part of the government, but it's a job--not a handout. The training- came with a cost of service called a commission. It wasn't 'free', I worked for it. I make sure to be the most capable leader I can be, for whenever the time arises I can step up and defend my country- and the tax payers will have their monies worth from me. I'm not against government jobs, I support policeman, firefighters, etc.
