I am not sure how much marketing Thai sauce company did in other countries but I think that might be one of the factor why Huy Fong dominates the "foreign" market too. When I googled about "Sriracha sauce Thailand" only the Shark brand comes up. So maybe we need a better marketing Oh, and I am pretty sad that the name "Sriracha" sauce is trademarked by Huy Fong. That shows how much Thailand lacking in promoting their own recipes. | ||

I've tried a lot of the American-style srirachas: Flying Goose, Double Golden Fish, Suree, Uncle Chen, and Roland (in order from best to worst imo). I still like Huy Fong the best, but it does have a particular sort of flavor that doesn't necessarily complement all foods the way a more neutral hot sauce does. Shark is the only real Thai style I've tried, and it's...well it's a completely different sort of sauce really. Huy Fong came up with a whole style of sauce and deserves credit for that, it's just unfair they stole the name sriracha for it. What's funny is that a surprising number of people seem to know that the "r" in "sri" is silent even though they don't know the origin of the name. Also really now, part of what is so great about Huy Fong is that it is so easy to find. Shark is the sort of thing that is hard to find even in a Korean or Chinese grocery rather than an actual Thai or Vietnamese grocery, which are much less common. I mean because of Huy Fong, I can get sambal oelek at the regular grocery store now. It's not like I can pop down to the American grocery to get a namprik. | ||
