ah, interesting. that makes sense. i hear other fast fashion brands like zara have the same idea (maybe zara in particular), with very frequent cycles of clothing driven by efficient supply chain management or whatever.
hmm, i guess if i'm not looking to drop the big $s on clothing, it's just up to me to figure out what aesthetic or style i'm into, and make my wardrobe from relevant retailers, whether it's mall brands, fast fashion, or whatever, right? are there any interesting/unique brands at that price range or is it just a big assortment of aforementioned mass-market retailers?
how does one even get into learning about fashion and different brands, besides something stupid like looking at the wikipedia category for brands that show on-schedule at the fashion capitals' fashion weeks? :O is there such thing as a middle-ground, and how does one learn about that area?

It's difficult for enthusiast communities to dedicate a disproportionate amount of attention to products on the lower end of the price spectrum, unless that's the specific aim, say for /frugalmalefashion. The most popular products will be mid-range and seen to offer the best value. What is mid-range varies by communities. No idea of the interesting individual brands in the fashion fashion range. I guess everlane would be one.
The most organic way to learn about brands is to be an urbanite and browse stores. If that's not possible like in my case then it's a lot of internet browsing. I like it and I try to read a lot so it's no bother, but it can still become a huge waste of time, and there's something weird about mostly looking at pictures of clothes and reading about them but rarely ever seeing them in person. It's really awkward. People (like cheep), who live in the city and have steady disposable income have a tremendous advantage.
Lastly, like I mentioned way back, this doesn't have to be about consumerism, you don't have to buy anything to be interested, but it obviously helps a lot, and most fashionable folks are as much consumers as they are genuine art lovers and enthusiasts. Last lastly, you do need some capital to start, but this hobby is cheaper than most people think. My net spend has been very low in the past year or so.

modernism is difficult to define in fashion because there really isn't the extensive kind of discourse in fashion that has defined eras or movements in the past. modernism is usually a response to traditional forms that became unsuited for contemporary life, and i feel like, because fashion is a primarily functional form of art (clothes will always be clothes first, and the canvass will almost always be a recognizable human body), change is gradual and constant. you can see change within seasons, while in many art circles movements last for years if not decades. for example, you could argue that the rise of athleisure is a modernization of fashion from an excessively formal culture to a more relaxed contemporary culture. you could find examples like that from every decade, so it would be difficult to pin down when modernism happened in fashion, because clothing the present with something new and urgent is always fashion's concern.

That all makes a lot of sense, and it's really appreciated, as someone who's pretty intrigued/interested, but otherwise hasn't had much experience with fashion. Cheep is in NYC right? Definitely an advantage there then I'd imagine
How much did you spent in that time period, if you wouldn't mind mentioning roughly? I presume it's cheaper than a lot of people might expect because you can sell pieces you own on grailed or something, and purchase other articles of clothing used, and thereby require only some capital to start getting into it.

you can go a really long way using grailed/ebay/y!jp/rakuten. and only buying on sale. i'd say about 90% of my purchases are on sale or from one of those sites.

there should be a hard enforced rule in this thread that if anybody wants to talk shit they need to post a fit first instead of "hurr durr i don't need to prove anything xdd im going to talk to WHOEVER I WANT!!!"
anyways idk how my net spend for this year so far hasn't broken $3000usd yet so it seems like i'm safe. i actually resold a bunch of ass club garbage for double their retail values before the brand (and subsequently the market) tanked but it was an easy come up. they say that hypebeast tendencies will never leave you i guess.

i mean at the end of they day they're just clothes wear what you wanna wear and don't make a big deal out of posts you think are dumb

I don't even know what he means with fits, so I guess he has to fight me as well :p
Also, arguing over fashion is like arguing over music. Some people find things hideous that others love, and neither side is right. I wouldn't be seen close to anyone wearing the jacket that spawned the argument, but if they like it then I won't tell them that they are wrong, because they aren't. They just have a different opinion.

fits = outfits -> post an outfit of yours
i'm the only person to post a fit in the past 10 pages, therefore i am currently king of the thread

Well, I don't take selfies and there is no one to take pictures of me, so it's difficult to post my outfits. Since I'm pretty much an average shirt and tie guy, they aren't actually any interesting either.
+ Show Spoiler +
Does that count? That image was the reason why I bought new shirts. Turns out the modern fit size 42 (whatever that is outside of Germany) that I was wearing for that looked terrible when you now have slim fit size 39. The shirt was my favorite when it still fit. I'm also not happy that the photographer insisted on me removing the tie, since I much prefer to wear a tie in my spare time. Sure, he knew it was for Facebook and people tend to have very casual photos on that, but I'm not a very casual person. I only don't wear ties for work since people always say that you shouldn't dress better than your boss, and she already wears t-shirts and jeans.
Need to make a new photo with my new shirts some day, but losing 20kg is very expensive. Just two days ago I spent 150 Euro on two new pants at the now correct 33/32 (W/L, no idea hat people call that size) size as all but one of my old ones were still 36/32. Almost decided on spending 200 Euro for two Pierre Cardin - my go to brand since they tend to fit well - stretch pants, but then found some from Nils Sundström that were a bit cheaper and fit better, and after all I already spent too much money the last few weeks. I spent more money on new clothes this month than the last 4 years combined, at least if you exclude the suit I bought last year for the job interview which cost 400 Euro on it's own and now doesn't even fit anymore. Maybe I can get my best friend to make a picture, she wanted me to have some more casual pictures anyways, so she might as well shoot them herself.
Sometimes I miss the days when I went to the discount clothes store to buy 10 Euro jeans, 5 Euro pullovers, didn't even bother to try them on and called it a day. I mean, I never looked awful wearing those...
