at most i sometimes feel a bit embarrassed when people ask about the watch i'm wearing and how much it costs. most people find spending $2k or $5k on a watch ridiculous or extravagant.

The shocked looks when the find out its only a timex. @zenith, just don't out do your coworkers too much and change your outfits slowly so it doesn't look like you went on a shopping spree every day after work. I know how you feel though, I can't go wearing my AE strands or tucking my shirt in without someone making a comment asking if I'm going out for an interview or if i have a date. Tough life in engineering R&D. Wondering whats the conversation like between fashion dude 1 (wears a reverso) and fashion dude 2 (wears a timex) if the topic is timepieces?

my reverso doesn't get that much attention actually :p
i'm not a snob though. if it's a good looking timex, and the guy has no pretensions about it being a mechanical wonder, then it's a good watch. i'm not against wearing something like komono or uniforms wares just because my favorite manufacture is JLC. i actually have a seiko mod called the fiftyfive fathoms (inspired by the blancpain fifty fathoms) and i rather enjoy wearing it.
so it would be a pretty chill conversation yeah, probably about grails just like any watch convo.

Thanks you should write a book on winter fashion advice

But be sure to keep telling me how brands like Columbia and The North Face jackets are great for insulation while high fashion brands don't function as well even at a higher price point!
Even Uniqlo down-filled jackets are great! Although it's been a complaint that they're actually 100% trash due to the tiny amount of down filling in them and mixed with a large amount of non-down materials, I've heard some good anecdotal evidence about them so they must be terrific for the freezing Canadian weather. Are you for real? High fashion brands aren't more expenive because they function better in old temperatres, they are more expenive because well, it's fashion. Some people don't want the outdoor clothing aesthetic though and that's okay. They want something that fits in their closet and works, even in cold weather. I mean I dont think anyone's planning on wearing a fishtail in a blizzard, and I don't doubt cold weather people have functional cold weather clothes.
That said something being "fashion" doesn't make it non functional. A 1k coat is just as warm (probs warmer because of materials actually) than a cheaper one, the same can hold true for other clothes. Maybe a mountaneering jacket is better for the cold than an acne down. But one is designed purely for function and the other has desired qualities by the buyer. Just because it's fashion doesn't mean it won't work in the cold. Also none of those brands discussed are high fashion.
i don't want to call you out (though others have), but coming into a clothing enthusiast thread with the mindset of "well that's dumb" is a little counter productive, and that might not be your intention but that's what others are perceiving.

you want cool parka? w+h x canada goose is the only answer
|
He explicitely asked for somethign down filled. Never called anyone or anything dumb either, not sure what you are implying, except taking offence that I said people really don't care if you wear a different shoe everyday. If he doesn't like the down aesthetic, then he shouldn't had asked for it then lol, because that's what he is going to get. It's just pure bullshit to say that a higher price = more practicality because that's just plain rubbish. Personally I prefer a nice wool coat like a duffle or peacoat or an overcoat, timeless and warm, but I know that they will not keep you dry in inclement weather.
|
it'd be great if you actually had something to say rather than coming into this thread and screaming fashion = overpriced.
|
my point was just - some people might perceive your tone as more inflammatory than you're intending.
I agree, higher price doesnt = more practical, but I wasn't stating that. I was saying that just because something is "fashion" doesn't mean it's not functional, or as functional as a "non fashion" jacket. It's possible to have both.
Also Arcteryx veilance stuff if you have the coin.
|
problem is he didn't say more expensive = warmer, he said it's not true that more expensive brands don't have warm clothing
|
fuck man this Dangermousecatdog guy's a troll idk why you all getting heated for no reason
best bait of all time, nobody can actually lack this much reading comprehension while still being a functional human being lmao

I was actually going to get one of those too, but switched the 2013 DR at the last minute. It looks supremely badass but it doesn't feel like it's as loud as a classic perfecto cut with the belt.

ok so like..
i have offers for the intarsia, was deciding on whether or not to accept then wore it last night and vomited a little on it, not too bad but not good. I didn't realize it until this morning. I cleaned everything up with disinfectant wipes and warm water and it looks the same as before and smells the same. Should I pretend nothing happened if I sell it? There are no stains, no smell, no changes to the leather.

Yes, and don't forget to delete this post when you do.
Wearing something when you're selling it is p dumb IMO but anyway
