I know about the short rain coat-ish jackets that a lot of people have but all in all I don't really think they are my style. How about a chesterfield

Are the soles vulcanized? You should find out if they are and if the stitching is just auxiliary. If they are then they can't be resoled to perfection (or at all). Removing the old sole will likely damage a large part of the shoe (since the rubber is glued with some kind of contact adhesive). Plus I doubt there are a lot of cobblers who have vulcanizing tanks.
If they aren't vulcanized then they can be resoled.
|
you can't resole them
but if you're desperate you can go to a reputable cobbler in your area and ask for an expert opinion

Yeah google confirms they are vulcanized, so they can't be resoled

the heel isn't bad (just slight heel drag) but i've seen sneakers that have that part replaced (cut out at a 90 degree angle and new rubber glued on). would any reputable cobbler know what to do? i don't think i'd have to go to a specialty place for this kind of thing, no?
|
basically they shave the heel down and replace it another rubber piece
most cobblers should know how, use yelp I guess

waste of a good shoe imo
often looks terrible and it won't even be half as sturdy. it'll probably fall off in a few months.
i wouldn't replace it until necessary if i were you

so i've been looking up boot porn and I guess vibergs are considered the grail of work boots? The more I look up sizing the more I'm grateful my feet are normal sized, same sizing across for work boots and +1 for all sneakers.

I've been yearning for a pair of leather boots for a while now, but I keep putting it off because I don't really need them (as if I need more shoes anyway). Obviously my choice would be a pair of Iron Rangers, but I don't really need work boots so I can't really justify spending that much on boots I'll only occasionally wear. What are my options? Here's my list so far:
Chippewa boots LL Bean Katahdin Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots Red Wing Iron Ranger

I was in the same situation awhile back and ended up getting a pair of 1k mile Addisons. I read through all the threads, went to a local store to try on, etc. If you live somewhere that has actual winters then you'll need something else for when the weather gets bad. Otherwise the Chippewas are great value, the Katahdins are good too but only slightly cheaper than red wings/wolverines so I would just consider the latter two. What really turned me off about RWs are the bulbous toeboxes which do not look good on biggish feet with slim pants. Don't pay retail for 1k miles as they are always on sale and probably don't justify the retail price. If you can stretch your budget just a bit more, strongly consider white's semi-dress boots. They are far superior to 1k miles at $70 more. Don't get Oak Street Boot Makers as they're the same price as White's but have QC issues.
I got a topy on my 1k miles and didn't ask for vibram, they fell apart 3 months later. If you're walking around in winters you need a vibram/dannite half sole no matter what. You don't really need any products except for a horseshoe brush and boot trees if you really care. The 1k mile Chromexcel is naturally oiled. I went overboard with the wax protectors, oils, etc. But none of that is necessary and I walked in snow and salt all the time. Just brush them after. I can post pics of my 6 months ish Addisons if you want.
Recently copped a new EG peacoat at 75% off. Gonna sell my free CPs which haven't shipped yet, if any of you are interested, I'll give a discount to TLers. They are EU44 perforated blue achilles lows. http://www.chatsubo.com/index.php?sec=prod&prod=390&title=achilles-perforated-blue

No winters here, just lots of sun and rain. Like I said I don't really need a boot, I just kinda want one.
The thing about 1000 Mile and Red Wing, at that price I like Tricker's brogue boots better.

tricker stow? those are very nice but are about $200 more than 1k miles

Yeah I confused the price with the Grenson Fred while browsing End

those boots look out of place with anything nonformal though.
