not that too many people would have sex with conjoined twins...

I find the question about breathing very intriguing. Their single set of lungs will acquire twice as much oxygen, assuming they both breathe at the same rate as a single individual, correct? They could be an excellent cyclist if they are able to coordinate their legs and balance appropriately.
Also, how the hell did the mothers give birth to children with two heads, before the days of the c-section? Babies are born with "soft spots" so the mothers can accommodate the birthing process. I can't imagine pushing out two heads at once being a very pleasant process. Yikes.
EDIT: I've thought more about the breathing aspect. I'm guessing their lungs will have the same capacity as a normal set, and thus they will both breathe half as much as a single individual. They will probably have to coordinate the inhale-exhale process, though.

Science fiction not so fiction anymore...

If one of them committed a crime, could the law punish him?

I wonder when they age, if there Testosterone production is doubled after strenuous exercise. I doubt the have a genetic problem with that hormone promoter.

I honestly wonder how many countries considered that kind of law.

I'm assuming that the blood loss would be enough to kill both of the bodies.

I am torn on this, the perspective of understanding the ins and outs of their body is extremely exciting, but on the other hand I feel very sorry for them. Also, atheism is spreading very fast in Brazil, at least most of the people I know from college ( Computer Science) and childhood friends are atheists/agnostics, possibly because I've always thought little of believers since I was very young and kept myself far from them, don't really care, but still, I fail to see how religious people would feel like treating them badly, if anything they would be kinder to them? Our main religion is catholicism, not the spartan's politheism.

2 heads are better than one.

Breathing is more about pumping air with lungs than opening your mouth.
So if one breathes, he's commanding the lungs to expand and take in air. If the other does the same thing, he's just commanding the lungs to do what they are already doing.
Now here's the funky part: To be able to speak or sing, your lungs have to compress to push out the air and create sound. What happens if one of them breathes in while the other tries to speak?
What I'm concerned about is the supplying of air. The lungs are designed to feed 1 body and 1 head, not 1 body and 2 heads. Same goes with the heart and perhaps other organs. If your brain is low on oxygen it cannot function properly.
So now my question is, will their lungs adapt and evolve to retrieve more oxygen from air or will they have trouble concentrating for their whole life?

well normal human can live with one lung, so i guess it works somehow?
|
Sharing 1 heart, at least one of them will die in development, almost guaranteed- Abigail and Brittany Hensen were able to develop normally because they have separate organs, for the most part.
As far as breathing, the Hensens have normal involuntary control of a single diaphragm controlling 2 sets of lungs, so these new babies will probably have no problem breathing together with just 1 set of lungs. Concerning oxygen supply, normal breaths for people take up 5% of your lung capacity (see tidal volume), so that wouldn't be an issue. As long as blood supply is fine to the heads, oxygen supply would be too.
Off topic, I also am a horrible person for laughing at the funny pics thread joke. Sigh.

oh my fucking god... not this again

i think they would be similar to the hensels if they survive. I find it doubtful that they would have duplicate nervous systems radiating from each spine. Its probably more likely that they each control their half of the body.

Going to be very hard to live for them. Also, I can't imagine how the parents feel about this...

Plenty of people are being intelligent others aren't.

This makes me sad . I know people can try to make them enjoy life, but...the reality is its probably going to be very harsh and difficult.
This is one case where I think abortions should be considered, if the future life of the baby is going to be torturous...just abort early and have another baby. It think it should be pretty apparent that something has gone wrong while the fetus is still developing, or perhaps before. I mean its right to have sympathy for people born this way, and do the best to ensure they live a good life, but if it can be avoided why not? One child's life is always the loss of a chance at life for another potential child, in terms of the "unborn" it all seems equivalent to me.

I actually thought about this for a long time and I have no idea what would happen as one would have the guilty mind and guilty act but the other would only have the guilty act, so they couldn't really punish him if he was considered a different person. I think it would be really interesting on how a country would handle this.
