Title: The Lord of the Rings Medium: Books/film Short description: Two young travelers make their way to Mordor to save the world and fall in love at the same time. Why do I like it: My favorite thing about it was that I could never figure out who was the giver and who was the taker in the relationship. Sometime's I thought Frodo but then sometimes Sam! Could never tell
Title: Death Note Medium: Anime/Manga Short description: A story of forbidden love! A villain and a police chief fall in love with each other but their main objective is to take each other out. Also they both struggle with coming out as homosexuals. Why do I like it: It's a pretty good (albeit tragic) love story carefully hidden behind a facade of deceit and danger. Also it really opens your eyes how hard it is to live as a homosexual in todays society.
Short Description: Marriage Black-by Hayase Hashiba-sensei, this Yuri is kick ass, 2 rival mafia families, their daughters in love with one another, yet forced to fight each other while loving each other, comes out like once a year or something, extremely slow only up to 3 chapters so far but so good.
Why I like it: Ludie is so cute, Lilithia, is pretty ruthless while cute, both girls have their for my family mafia thing going on but this yuri is so good, highly recommended
I should really put more effort than just copy pasting from my blog but w/e
Title: Brokeback Mountain Medium: Film Short description: The story of a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years. Why do I like it: Reminds me of the love story between Idra and Cruncher.
Title:검사 프린스세 / Prosecutor Princess Medium: South Korean Drama Short description: Korean Drama about a materialistic self-centered spoiled prosecutor, who through a series of events begins to re-evaluate her life changing it for the better. A love story is woven into the her tribulations as a prosecutor, and this slowly changes her life. Why do I like it: It starts off as a pretty typical K-Drama. However, it is the characters that really pull you in. The ending is also the best ending I've ever seen from a K-Drama heartwarming and cheesy, the ending is why I like this Drama so much - I won't spoil it.The drama is very cheesy, but I enjoyed it.
그리고, 본후에 내 한국어 노력이 좋아졌어요. 조금만 ㅋㅋㅋ
Edit: I feel like I'm the only post that isn't going to be a troll response... Do i get some kind of reward? I'd like a cookie 0_o

Title: Say Anything Medium: Film Short description: Two new high-school grads form a relationship over the summer, working through their mutual issues. Why do I like it: This is how all romantic comedies should be. Hilarious for all the right reasons, the right touch of "coming of age," and enough seriousness to set up some really dramatic moments.
Title: Jane Eyre Medium: Book/Films Short Description: Governess in 19th century England has a mind of her own, and falls in love with her employer who has his own dark secrets. Why do I like it: I feel like most romances create really arbitrary conflicts between the guy and the girl based on absolutely ridiculous misunderstandings. Here the conflicts feel much more real and I at least actually feel for the characters when their morals and their emotions are pulling them in opposite directions.
Title: "The Brown Eye of the White Tiger" Medium: Audiobook Short description: SCBW's most succesful female progamer, tossgirl, is having a hard time in a world of ruthless competition. Little did she know a fellow progamer would give her a big surprise... Why do I like it: SC PORN! WHAT IS THERE TO HATE!?

Title: Kiss X Sis Medium: Anime (Almost Hentai) Short description: A perverted guy named Keita has fallen love with his 2 older, desperately horny step-sisters, Ako and Riko Why do I like it: Dad is fuckin awesome. Storyline is non existent. Hilarity ensues.
Title: 神雕俠侶 / The Return of the the Condor Heroes Medium: One of the early main novels that pioneered the ENTIRE KUNGFU (well, superhuman fictional kungfu) lore popular in China today, it has been made into countless TV shows, games, etc.
Short description: War + Knowledge + Power + Heroism + Fame + Infamy + fucktons of amazing kungfu lore are abundant throughout the novel, and everything more or less relates to the most important event - the undying love between the male and female protagonists. I can't really describe too much without spoiling the story, so I'll put it this way: it's slightly similar to Romeo and Juliet in that both characters were ready and gave their lives for each other, but... they did it MULTIPLE times, over the time span of almost 20 years. Most intense love story you'll ever read, guaranteed.
The protagonist, Yang Guo, is the orphaned son of the antagonist, Yang Kang, of the first novel. He is raised briefly by the couple Guo Jing and Huang Rong before being sent to the Quanzhen Sect for better guidance in moral values and orthodox martial arts. At Quanzhen, Yang Guo is often picked on and bullied by his fellow students and his teacher Zhao Zhijing is biased against him. Yang Guo flees and ventures unknowingly into the nearby Tomb of the Living Dead, where the Ancient Tomb Sect is housed. He is saved by Xiaolongnü, a mysterious maiden of unknown origin, and becomes her disciple. They live together in the tomb for many years until Yang Guo grows up. After being attacked by Li Mochou, they leave the tomb and stay on the mountain. Xiaolongnü develops romantic feelings for Yang Guo and after a while, he too falls in love with her.
However, their love is forbidden by societal laws in the Confucianist society of that time. Throughout the story, their love meets with several tests, such as the misunderstandings that threaten to tear them apart and the encounter with Gongsun Zhi. Finally, after their reunion and marriage, Xiaolongnü leaves Yang Guo again, owing to her belief she cannot recover from a fatal poison, and promises to meet him again sixteen years later. While Yang Guo is wandering the land alone, he meets several formidable pugilists and a giant Condor. His adventures gradually mould him into a courageous pugilist, whose prowess matches the Greats of his age. Yang Guo serves his nation by helping the Han Chinese of Song defeat the Mongol invaders. At the end of the novel, he is finally reunited with Xiaolongnü and they are recognized as heroes.
Why do I like it: read description. Be sure to check out a translation of the novel first, because most of the good kungfu lore is lost through film adaptations simply because well, how the fuck is an actor supposed to act that he's channeling "internal energy"?
Title:Eyeshield 21 Medium:Manga Short description: Football. With blackmail, lots of guns and other fun stuff. Why do I like it: Guy employes girl as football team manager. Consistently swears at her (and the rest of the team), blackmails her (and the rest of the team), laughs his ass off at her (and the rest of the team) and manipulates her (and the rest of the team).
Title:Clannad, Clannad After Story Medium:Anime Short description: Boy meets girl. They get together. And you see what happens after that. Why do I like it: Actually explores the relationship AFTER he gets the girl as well after graduation in a career. So not just a year or two of someone's life but a good chunk of it. And it's beautiful.
HOLY SHIT I KNEW I FORGOT SOMETHING.
Okay, the above is good but nothing compared to this one.
Title:Baccano Medium:Anime/Light Novel Short description: Ladd Russo Enjoys Talking a Lot and Killing a Lot. Why do I like it: Because Ladd's awesome.
(Ladd and Lua soar through the air uncontrollably) "Just let this moment be what it is. I wish I could kill you right now and forever." (Grins as they are about to collide with a water tower)
School Days Game/Anime Spineless guy likes a girl(s) The ending(s). Preferably the bad endings in the game. Anime only has 1 ending. 12 episodes, not that long and its a pretty cool story.

Title: The Shield Medium: TV Short description: I believe it was S1 and S2 or S2 and S3 where Julien battles with his homosexuality while being married with a kid AND a christian. So many nonos all at once! Why do I like it: Well, the rest of the show was kick ass. Julien's own struggles with Christianity and his homosexuality was just another interesting side story.
Title: Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica/魔法少女まどか☆マギカ Medium: Original Anime
Short Description: A brilliant written storyboard coming from SHAFT, the yuri, and the the struggles the heroines go through to find out the truth of their powers while the main heroines try to find her true feelings for the other main heroine Why do I like it: Written by SHAFT, Approved by Kyuubey, has yuri

Hahaha this, Kiss x Sis OVA's are the best.. so true
Didn't know Madoka was considered "a love story".. not even close imo. Edit: Just found out half of the submissions are trolls, nvm.

The story starts out as the theme for ZW to look for her father and have him recognize her. On route, she meets Xiao Yan Zi, a fairly energetic, but uneducated girl only having a bit of martial arts under her belt. Later on XYZ accidentally becomes recognized as QL's daughter and becomes daughter. A story of fighting, love, and most just love. Why I like it: I enjoy ROFL'ing at XYZ's gags XYZ Spoilers
ZW Spoilers

I second this. I'm in a bit of an 'offbeat' relationship myself. There are so few romantic movies that feel natural when my girl and I cuddle up to watch something.
Title: Cold Mountain Medium: Novel (also was made into a movie, haven't seen it, but maybe I'll watch it soon since this is reminding me of it) Short description: Badass dude has to go fight in the civil war. After he is injured he leaves the hospital and deserts in order to try to find his love Ada, though they only knew each other for a short span of time. He encounters hardships in his efforts to return. Why do I like it: Just thought it was a beautifully told story. It was a long time ago that I read it, and I don't remember the details well. But I enjoyed it in particular over other books I've read.
Also really like this one as well:

Title: New Getter Robo Medium: Anime OVA Short description: A love story between Nagare Ryoma, a young man who has unequaled passion, and his Getter. Why do I like it: In the words of Ryoma, "If there is a hole, it is a man's duty to thrust into it."

Anyway, it's not a love story in the traditional sense I guess, but Title: One Litre No namida Medium: J-drama, based on real girl's book Short Description: Basically this 15 year old girl contracts a brain degeneration disease, spino-cerebellar degeneration. Essentially her mental capacity is completely untouched but she slowly loses control of her body over time. The series is about how she copes with the disease and day to day life. http://myasiancinema.com/j-drama-1-litre-2005/ Why I enjoy it: It's not really a love story, but her relationships, particularly her love interest, played a very important role across the series and can't go unrecognised in the grand scheme. Other than that, it's a really touching story.
Edit: It probably helps that the girl is a QTPie. Until you get emotionally attached ><

The first half (the hating part) was pretty brilliant. The second half, with Mr. Darcy completely changing his character and being nice to her and her starting to like him, is cheap and feels unearned. Then the forced little sister elopes plot, like a bad movie. The ending was decent. The best parts are when they do nothing but talk, interact, and make speeches in ballrooms.
The final three endings featured in the game are the three bad endings which involve the death of one of the three main characters (either Makoto, Sekai, or Kotonoha) in violent circumstances. In one of these endings, Kotonoha kills Sekai in broad daylight with a saw to the neck
In the anime version, Sekai believes she is pregnant with Makoto's child, but is asked to get an abortion by Makoto. Under the emotional stress induced by Makoto's request, she stabs him in the stomach to death with a kitchen knife. After a brief exchange, where Kotonoha shows Sekai the school bag with Makoto's severed head inside, Kotonoha attacks and kills Sekai with the backsaw that she cut off Makoto's head with, then cuts her womb open in search of the fetus.
Title: My parents love Short description: My favorite love story is my parents love, they have been married for over 40+ years and they love each other since the day they have met. I am sorry for the extremely short description but it is all that i can say Why do I like it: The most important thing they give and teached me its the love for each other, and i will remember it always, even when they pass away.

The funny thing is, people in the anime discussion thread still recommend it to people who don't look themselves for recommendations in the giant list at the top of the thread, and people still watch it.
That article you quoted didn't include the very end of the anime though, where Kotonoha is on her parent's yacht in the ocean, holding Makoto's head. She's the real victim imo
lolol
As for love stories, I think the LotR relationship between Pippin and Merry is pretty deep
Title: To See You Again: A True Story of Love in a Time of War Medium: AutoBiography/Love Story
Betty Schimmel (mother of late comedian Robert Schimmel) found love during the Holocaust in another teenager named Richie Kovacs. She survived (obviously) but was told he did not. She later found another in a displacement settlement and was married. However, 30 years later she returned to her hometown of Budapest, not being there since the Nazis took over in 1945. While in the dining room of the hotel she was staying at, she saw a man's neck and immediately recognized RIchie. Apparently, in 1950 Richie found her but her husband Otto did not let her know, fearing she would leave him for her teenage love. Betty stayed married to Otto and decided it would be best to forget about Richie, for she had already moved on since the Holocaust. It's a sad and heartwarming story at the same time.

This might seem childish, but Snape's story is one of the absolute best
Title: Harry Potter Medium: Book (Film) Short description: I think everybody knows about the Snape- Lilly story who remotely cares, and the rest probably dindt read this far Why do I like it: Because it's completely selfless. Not in a way when a lover dies for another, since it means he/she at least experienced the joy and chose not to go on if his/her soulmate would die, so might as well die before her/him. No reward whatsoever, no appreciation. All he got was hate and tough missions to carry out without any gain or promise of a reward, he done it all out of love. He wasnt known as a hero or a martyr, he couldnt care less. It's just beautiful, an unfulfilled love and devotion taken to the absolute extreme. Also it requires 0 kissing/ similar scenes to tell it, because the sexual aspect of it is so unimportant
Title: Durarara Medium: Anime Short description: The love story is a sub story in the Anime..a young doctor who falls in love with his roomate who is pretty much a Grim reaper and can't love back because she is too busy searching for her head(which was stolen by the doctor's father ! Why do I like it:Yeah i know... pretty f*** up but even for a grim reaper she is so fragile and when everything works out in the end i got the biggest smile in my face. Maybe not be the my favourite all-time , but it is for now..
Now there have been troll anime responses, but I'll try to recover some of our honor Title: Spice and Wolf Medium: Anime series Short description: Set in the middle ages, a lonely traveling merchant finds a girl, who joins him in his trip as he's headed in the general direction that she wants to go Why do I like it: I really liked the love development, from nonexistent, to flirting, to finally a very satisfying kiss as both of them realize they actually have feelings for each other.
There is basically just a lot of true stuff put into that movie. And granted they took more of a happy ending approach it is still one of my favorite movies to this day.
Now, I know I'm going to sound crazy for saying this, but Title: Zelda: Skyward Sword Medium: video game Short description: The story of two young children without a care in the world, having a heavy fate thrust upon them. Both are forced to go their separate ways while still meeting at key points in the story. Why: I think the reason I like it so much is because when you lack back in history, you never really see this. You really get the feel in this game that Link and Zelda are meant for each other. Zelda comes off as playful, kind, and a strong protagonist, taking on her great destiny while knowing the consequences of it.
