The man who produces #1's tracks is placed @ #75, LOL. That shows exactly how much a popularity contest means. I'm just happy that Max Vangelli is out of it, because he spammed the shit out of me to get a vote :D. 4 out of the 5 I voted for are in (poor Super8 & Tab ) which is, I guess, a reason to stay on this planet for at least another year. LOL, I just realized, that probably the best dj in the world, Eddie Halliwell is out of it for the first time in many years. Which shows up the top 3 priorities for becoming a star dj : 1. Marketing /// 2. Production /// 3, DJ-ing itself. We can't fight the first one, and I'm okay with the second one though

Was surprised to see people like Daft punk not in top 10 O.o And skrillex? ewww imo. Avicii is alright but not #1 imo.

So much junk in the top 100. Maybe 4 people I still listen to consistently. :/

uhh how else are you going to rank them if not by popularity?

Yeah... you make a good point. But it does only prove that it's a popularity contest.

Perhaps if it were based upon the choices of a select group of critics, then the results would be more interesting and ultimately, more people would be exposed to more interesting music.

This just makes me sad, Armin deserves #1 without any doubts.
Guetta is just commercial. The only good thing i know about him is that he brings different kinds of music together but truth be told, if it is to put Guetta on first i'd rather have Madeon whose music is much more awesome than anything i've heard from Guetta.
But heh, this is the real world, and even 15 years old can vote for some guy they get brainwashed over by hearing the tune tenfolds.
The first place of this list is an insult to all the other real Dj's on it imo.

What is popular? It's what people like. And if people like you are you not a good DJ?
You could probably also assemble a team of music critics and judges that would... I don't know... judge the artistic input into their music dj'ing? But that's not really what matters... So yeah it's a popularity context but I don't say as if it's a bad thing.

Going to see deadmau5 live in 2 weeks!! Gonna be sick. And above and beyond is my favourite trance dj group. I jizz in my pants to TATW.

I guess I don't really have a good rebuttal. If people like you, that means you are a popular DJ. That doesn't necessarily mean you're good. It's sorta like Bieber. He's popular. But is he good? That's debatable. (I'm not saying anything about Bieber's person, or how hard he has worked, or anything of that sort. I only say that Bieber's music is not by any means musically deep, and is as a general rule not enjoyed by anyone who considers themselves a musical connoisseur)
In that sense, then, one can look at the relevance of music as indicated by its long-lasting impact on music. Bands like Metallica and Nirvana weren't at the top of the charts when they were considered relevant, but they are still considered relevant because of their long-term effects on music. In the same vein, perhaps the artists that are popular now may not be the artists that are considered good in the long term.
I don't know what I'm saying. I'm not really arguing with you. I mean you're right. I guess I just wanted to give an opinion.

I disagree with that whole list, what kind of garbage is to put David Guetta at #1... I understand if it was his older shit, but since it's for this year, it's quite ridiculous....

Man it's so embarrasing moment when Guetta enters the stage and people are silent and then some start buhuhuing.
I'm not a David Guetta fanboy but when trance fanboys calls Guettas music cheesy, that's just wtf. Armin and Tiesto nowadays only produce super-cheesy real fucking crap. Their old/classic tunes were epic though. Guettas new productions and collaborations with R&B stars in America are good radio music and some more "heavy" club mixes works very well in the clubs.
And btw Guetta has always had someone else produce his work, even in the early days of his career.
Guetta is just very smart and should get credit for that. He creates trends and introduces catchy sounds that people wants to listen to, and he found a way for commercial House from Europe could merge with the rap/R&B from USA.
And all you people that Dj:ing and playing House in clubs around the world, without David Guetta no one would be able to play House because the ordinary people wouldn't know House.

Above and beyond :D sooo goood!!!

Daft Punk are godlike producers, but their live performances lack to be proper dj's. The last time they performed live was at the Emmy's doing Kanye's Stronger iirc. I want a goddamn tour from them, and now!
Skrillex is horrible on #19.
Great to see Dada Life, Laidback Luke, Wolfgang Gartner.
Disappointed severely at how low Bloody Beetroots & Boys Noize are placed. Also, No 2manydj's/Soulwax? No Justice? Not a single D&B act? No Feed Me?
DJmag has proven again that they are a popularity contest of mainly trance producers, and they continue to overestimate them. Tiësto hasn't brought out anything good after In My Memory imo.
And the honorary high rank of Paul van Dyk is just disgusting.

Bieber has his audience that likes him. Are only males at the age 18+ allowed to say what's good? No different things appeal to different demographics.
So if you have a very well developed taste in music (think hipster without negative implications) then don't be offended that you don't find your favorite artists on a super general top surveying all the field.
And if it would be evaluating the impact of their craft on a big scale on many years to come, like your example, the I guess the best top we could make now are the TOP100 DJ's of 2001.
I see this chart just as an indicator what's actual now and what people like today without any philosophical merit to it.
So we're arguing about something very very subjective and I guess the most objective way we can assert who's good and who's not is by looking how much people and money they move.
