Is Canada considered socialist by most Americans? I would like to think we are socialist and do pretty well for ourselves so why all the hate for socialism?

It's true. If Obama wins reelection, mark my words, some serious shit is going to go down. The rich, and hard working people are not going to give into another 4 years of his left-wing Agenda. People on Government assistance are almost matching the average American salary. Obama has 3 websites devoted to stomping out ill sayings against him, saying the "truth" (lol), hes recruiting High School students ((again (2million people)) to spread his thinking for generations to come. This guy is fucking Hitler, lol, never have I seen such an effort to persuade the people. Everything he says is a lie, he twists words all the time. ANYBODY but Obama.

You're hardly socialist. Hell, I can't think of any country in the developed western world that's actually socialist. Yongwang just throws around the term without having any clue as to what it actually means.

Because you were there right buddy, you totally know "the will of the people" is, especially those from 1920...
And haha, at least Wilson didn't order break-ins and cover it up, but leave it a video of that nature to forget there was a president that did exactly that.
You do realize Harding's administration was taking massive bribes and commiting huge acts of fraud? Apparentely that's not that bad for you though
edit: In terms of scholary ranking (with both conservatives and liberals), Obama is somewhere around the midteens, hardly the worst of the last 100 years

So people think, oh this is nice, I can just sit and do nothing all day and still get payed. Or even if they do work, they'll work some 5 hour shift at a fast food restaurant and get paid as much as a neurosurgeon. Eventually though people realize that the government is not only controlling their lives economically, but is beginning to tell them how to live their lives. The socialists in charge start telling people to hand in their guns, that tobacco is illegal, and that spanking your kid is child abuse. Then the system starts to collapse, the tax revenue from the people who do work hard isn't enough to cover the burden by those who are a burden on the system. Then we see a recession and everything starts to fall apart, which is what we're seeing in Europe.

I really can't tell if this is a sarcastic paragraph. I really, really hope so.
Because pretty much everything contained in it is outragouesly false. I'm hoping/leaning towards sarcasm, because if people like this exist...

Because you have zero proof to go along with your accusations on Obama, whereas historians have ample evidence for Harding's misdealings.

Communism does not work on a large scale, due to the exact reasons that you stated (lack of motivation, no benefits for skilled workers). Socialism is different; the government is involved to improve the social welfare of its citizens, but does not go so far as to control the economy or the lives of its people.

On February 16 2012 09:38 YoureFired wrote: Socialism is different; the government is involved to improve the social welfare of its citizens, but does not go so far as to control the economy or the lives of its people. Oh I'm well aware of that, but the socialists do try and control the lives of their people. It's almost always the self-proclaimed "socialists" and "modern liberals" that support things like gun control.
|
In American political discourse, "socialism" means any disagreement with Republican policy. School vouchers are capitalist, but health insurance vouchers are socialist. Spending hundreds of billions on social security is socialist, spending hundreds on billions on warfare is capitalist. Subsidizing green energy companies is socialist, subsidizing oil companies is capitalist. Now you understand?
Apparently we're now labeling policies on non-economic issues as "socialist," which makes zero sense, but that's really no different than the inaccurate and highly selective use of the term in the fist place.
