Yeah that pretty much makes you a murderer.

Heroes don't kill? Would be wrong to do, and Norway would have hated the cop shooting him, if he was unarmed.

This is why people don't trust cops. Cover-ups don't help their cause. If a cop shot him on the island, the cop should tell the truth, that he felt it was his duty to put a dangerous man down. Let the Norwegian system deal with the cop, but at least the citizens will know exactly what happened. I think that's the best outcome in this scenario.

I belive the goverment paid all expenses for Funerals ect. so i doubt your money will be needed, I guess supporting AUF with donations or AP (Arbeider partiet) if u wanna help the fight against Racism or people for Immigration and other things they stand for. or red cross that helpd out alot at utøya and at the centre where the victims were brought.

but id say keep your money for yourself, and just keep the victims in your heart

Can anyone confirm or deny that Brevik's facebook page has been changed after the shooting?

From history I know that these things aren't just done by one man and the fact that he had bombs set up in the government building and bombs planted at the island and he had transportation, information and easy access to the island seems really suspicious and then on top of that there wasn't armed guards there and the police took one and a half hour to get there...

And why is his facebook page only populated with stuff with a period of 2 days? If you see mine facebook profile I have it populated with stuff from 2 years ago to a week or two ago and I'm not using facebook much. Why is that his twitter only came up just days earlier?

I can't say if there was government involvement or Anglo-American involvement or whoever else because there isn't proof out yet, but to me it doesn't seem right that he would use the manifesto of the underwear bomber and then gain nothing personally from the bombing.

It all seems way too suspicious for me to blame this retard alone. There is always, always as history can show us more than what we are told.

Pretty big bump I know, but I think this article is worth discussion. The shooter has been found mentally sane, and will stand trial as a competent human fully aware of his actions. I think this is a good thing, considering that there may be others who share his views, and to blame this attack on one individuals insanity may occlude investigations into possible future terror plots.

I'm surprised and disappointed by this report and impressed with the honesty of the psychiatrists. Hopefully the court will see the folly in hoping for rehabilitation and will rule Breivik insane so that he won't be released.

Taken directly from the article, "Either way, there are provisions in Norwegian law that could keep the 33-year-old locked up for the rest of his life.". This is the best case scenario honestly, for this murderer can be put away for life while the very real problem of violent racism can be addressed in its entirety.

The sane/insane part doesn't matter for a possible release, it only matters as to whether he will be in prison or in a mental instution for the rest of his life.

I believe the best way I can show respect to the victims is to not read the manifesto. I even severely regret reading the very small excerpts I have of it. The massacre was to draw attention to the manifesto.

Insanity is a human invention, an arbitrary line. It's meaningless from a normal cognitive perspective, but from a legal perspective I guess it's somehow relevant. Just goes to show how absurd legal distinctions really are. But I guess we need meaningless distinctions to be able to function as a society.

Anders is alive and well, his victims are dead and their families are suffering. Whether he's in a prison or a mental hospital, there won't be real justice either way.

@Romance_us If you feel like reading manifesto of a mass murderer or serial killer, read Ted Kaczynki's Manifesto. He is original and authentic thinker at least. Breivik copied his text anyway in his manifesto. -.- Either way, if you would like to read something I propose you read Umberto Eco's - The Name of the Rose.
@liberal Insanity is not invention, rather it is psychological standard (set in best way it can be done at this given point in time). By no way it is meaningless.
As far as justice is considered - is there ever?

I disagree. From wikipedia, "Justice is a concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, or equity, along with the punishment of the breach of said ethics; justice is the act of being just and/or fair".

This tragedy has given me a ton of respect for Norwegians in how they handled the situation and stood by their values (and not least of all here on TL). A lesser nation would have easily succumbed to anger and paranoia. One should not confuse justice with vengeance.

Insanity is not a human invention, it is a human condition. I don't understand how you could possibly come to the conclusion that it isn't a real thing. It extremely well documented. You may choose to not believe in the tons of evidence and real life examples of people suffering from insanity, but that will only mean you are completely wrong.

And of course they have their justice. He is in prison, justice has literally been served.

You might argue that they didn't get their revenge, but it has never been the justice systems design to grant victims revenge.

And how would that work anyway? His death won't ease the suffering any more than his imprisonment will. The fact that he isn't put to death is a testament to the strength of the justice system, not its weakness.

From a moral prespective he has comitted unspeakable atrocities and some would argue that he deserve to be killed or totured to death (I for one agreed) , others thinks for some reason or another that capital punishment is wrong (I have no idea why but I am sure the argument from a moral prespective would be quite compelling)

But from a pragmatic point of view I think its save to say that his life would not contribute in anyway to society (other then his organs of course) , why bother to keep him alive and imprisoned him? and in the offchance that he escape and start killing people again, what then? (people do escape from prison)
His existence is demerital to society and present a very real physical danger should he escape.
The most logical solution is to end his life and in doing so not only provide some closure to the family members but preventing him from hurting people again.

Ideal is good its what make us who we are, but most who has this hollier then thou attitude has not have their children shot in cold blood.

I think we should do what is logical rather then our moral code / ideals in this instance.
