I would love to quit this job and do Animation or Lighting in a 3d app like Softimage XSI or 3D studio max. That would be my dream. As of right now I am working like a slave 6 days a week, reading peoples complaints about video cards. HIS?
I just bought a HIS 6870 GPU

Do Grad school were you want to find work/live. It will give you the opportunity to network and build relationships with leaders in the field.
And be nice to your profs. You never know who they know. I have the job I have right now because my old dean recommended me for it.

I am just trying to figure out what I want and i am 23. I was a fully qualified plumber and gas engineer but my sister died a couple years ago and it kinda screwed up how I felt about the job and life in general. So I now have a small part time job at a local supermarket(Tesco) and want to go back to education. Am enjoying this thread though as it giving me a few ideas as to what I want to do next.

Geez, sure does look like there's lots of smart people here!
I'm currently a Group Insurance Underwriter and I'm going to be taking some exams to become an Actuary soon (FSA FTW!). It will be very challenging...but that's what's so appealing!

I'm currently still in college working on my associates, but when I head into industry I am going to be a Level Designer. Oh yea, making video games for a living. Every Gamers dream.

Will be studying engineering at the University of Washington next fall. Leaning towards aerospace/electrical, but I really won't know until I've taken some classes and find out what I like

I'm working in a hagwon in South Korea...so obviously education related

I teach English at a public junior high school in Fukuoka, Japan. I work for an ALT company, which is not optimal, but getting a direct hire is difficult; impossible in the short term. I am very happy living abroad. I will probably move to South Korea in a couple of years to do the same thing but hopefully save more. Eventually I want to travel around poor countries on my savings and write.
The most important thing to me about my job is that I get to travel a lot and meet interesting people. The job itself, beyond being an enabler, is not all that important to me, but I've found it really rewarding nevertheless. Going to school for politics I always imagined myself getting locked into an academic career track instead of directly helping people.

I'm currently in my 2nd year for my Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing. Yes, I'm one of THOSE. The social atmosphere is absolutely incredible. Our work load is almost identical to that of med school students, so we work very hard, but we often pull through it together. You almost have to. As a result, we all spend a lot of time together at school, and more recently, out of school. We have a really cool and tight group as a result. We work hard, but we play hard. Really loving University right now.
As for the job itself - I did Nursing Aide work for 7 years and I absolutely loved doing it. It's a wonderful feeling to feel like you're really helping someone when they need it most. I considered being a doctor, but the extra 3 years of school in combination with the more biology driven focus vs patient care focus turned me off of it. I'd much rather be more involved in direct care.

What job offers that for Sociologists that isn't research or statistics? Plenty are offered. NGOs, government PR stuff, both national and local government social and cultural fields and positions are normally highly coveted by a lot of social sciences graduates. Documentary, arts & culture work (like working in modern art museums, film institutes and what not) There's also corporate jobs that are offered to really bright students to handle their human capital stuff (like who gets hired and what not), although these usually are sociologists who have some sort of psychology background. You just have to know where to look for
Anthropologist, historian and will be starting a Msc Culture & Society (Sociology) this fall at LSE (UK). For now, I'm working as a freelance translator/editor for the editorial staff of my former uni.
I aspire to an academic position and hopefully to write essays (academic or not). Or maybe a novel, I just like writing ^_^
