The ratio is never negative, but kills-deaths = negative number when deaths > kills which is probably where the negative originates methinks.

I had a pie thrown in my face during a pep rally in high school once; the sickening smell left behind from that tiny bit of filling I couldn't remove from my nostrils still haunts me. It was all for fun though.

I think people try to imply kda>1 has a "positive" effect while kda<1 impacts mostly negative.

It is indeed substraction. Like in sports, football/soccer for example, where you have a positive goal ratio when "scored goals > goals against". If your k/d ratio is even, your performance is even too. But if you have "scored" more kills than death, your performance is positive - you killed more than you died. It becomes more clear, when you think about a teamgame, where the team with the most kills wins. An 8/5 ratio is positive to the the winning team, an 8/15 not.
Or in Starcraft.When you and your opponent use the same unit number in a mirror fight. If you have more units left, your kill/death ratio is positive. Positive as you have in your micro performance was better and you won - which is a positive result of a battle.
And yes, people do use k/d ratio to measure their performances, of how good they have played.

i was told OmniScourge created the alliance status condition script for the "vote for high resources" trigger in his Phantom BGH.
i need the alliance status to trigger an effect in my customized map. any help would be appreciated!
also looking for a trigger that would create a dodad (or sprite in my case) on a certain condition - the triggers i see in scm draft only create units and a few unit-based effects like comsat scan. the sprite is included in the scm draft sprites but only shows at the beginning of the game till the animation lasts.

They represent elements. Starting from the top-left, the three solid bars is sky/air. Bottom-right with the broken stripes is earth. Top-right (according to wikipedia) is water, and bottom-left is fire. (Although I had thought fire and water was flipped around hmmmmm)

Except it was a template iirc, where you could put 'dat macro' or whatever.
Sorta a combo of these, only it might have been a different zealot portrait and i'm pretty sure the glasses and mouth were drawn on.
