I think most negative responses are due to a mental block, because the meat came from excrement. But in terms of actual composition, it should not be different from normal meat (assuming competent scientists). Maybe once people get over their irrational fears, this idea would work out.

About what human tastes like, back in the 90s the New York Times food critic got some cadaver meat (thigh I think) and cooked it up and said it tasted like veal, just not as good.

This is such an interesting question to me. I think I would have to eat it, because honestly it's disgusting that I eat meat when meat is a major contributor to both world hunger and global warming. But yeah, my initial reaction is that it's pretty gross.

I mentioned this to my parents over dinner (lol) and my dad's comment: wouldn't this be better used for biofuel? The gas released by livestock isn't that big a deal since the carbon isn't being pulled out from deep underground... it's going in a cycle between animals and the environment. Not the case with fossil fuels...

I've just undertaken some university study on wastewater treatment, specifically BOD and COD treatment methods. This is really interesting to read/see.

The problem is perception. But one thing easily changes perception very quickly - price. If meat proteins increase in demand as expected in the next 20 years (in line with rapidly expanding population growth in expanding economies ie India and Asia), world price levels for 'organic' meat may become out of reach for a large portion of the population that currently enjoy it. When that happens, people will look to alternatives, and unless other alternatives are found, perceptions are very likely to quickly change.

I recall my step father talking about when he worked at a slaughterhouse maybe 15 years ago.
He had to devide meat into different bins. One for waste, one for dog food, one for sausage and one for minced meat.
At the end of they his boss came in and took everything up a notch, so that the waste became dog food etc, and that shit was molded and fairly rotten.

This turd burger is probably a more healthy option than that fine hot dog ^^
