In case if you're wondering, closest star to the sun right now is Proxima Centauri, a red dwarf star near or in the star system Alpha Centauri in the southern hemisphere. Besides that, can you guys spot the stars that I named my TL name after

You have to get far away from cities if you want to see the Milky Way with the naked eye, and then use good cameras at high exposure to pick up all of the subtle detail that is there.

Pretty cool. Though, aren't pictures of deep space taken with infrared and X-rays? I thought they colored the photos in photoshop based on the information they receive.

A lot of people aren't able to appreciate just how much there is up there, because the live in cities and the "light pollution" prevents the naked eye from seeing the vast majority of stars. I still remember the first time I went out to sea, more than 30 miles from land. I looked up and was blown away, not a single inch of the sky that wasn't overflowing with stars. You can actually see the cluster, and shape of our galaxy and perceive the cloud of the milky way with the naked eye. I'm actually surprised how many people have never had the opportunity to see this for themselves.
There are more stars than grains of sand on all the beaches of the world, yet people still wonder if life exists elsewhere......

Some other interesting stuff, if you use the labels icon to show the constellations, then find the big dipper. The star Mizar if you zoom in you will actually see 2 stars. This is visible with the naked eye sky at night. The large star is actually a solar system with 5 stars wobbling around each other, the smaller star is actually a binary star system (2 suns).

If you'd like to see something equally breathtaking take a look at this

It will give you a whole new appreciation of our universe. Here is a high quality version of the image the video talks about.

Some pictures are taken using infrared/UV/xray telescopes, and those are false color. Objects in deep space do, however, emit light in the visible spectrum, so some images are natural color. Not sure if these are enhanced or not, but they're definitely in the visible range.

This is how the sky looked to our ancestors. Thank you so much, light pollution!

This is very similar to Starry Nights. In some sense his pictures seem to have some more quality to them compared to Starry Nights. But of course you can't turn on the constellations or ask for star names, etc.

As for the bulge of the universe, you can't see it if you are too far north on the northern hemisphere. If you are nearer to the equator, you can see it close to the horizon. On the southern hemisphere, it will be visible overhead and is stunning, so I am told.

If you want to know a certain object, I can tell you. But the main things are, apart from the milky way disc, the Small and Large Magellan clouds, Pleades and Andromeda Galaxy.

All those dots, even the smaller one is a star. Just like our sun (some bigger some smaller). And that's just a very tiny part of our universe. You could multiply those you see by 1.000.000 and you still wouldn't be close to the amount of stars there are.

The only way life could have developed only on this little planet traveling around just one of all those stars, is if God really exists. Otherwise it's impossible
