Price range=30 dollars or so preferably. around that pricerange, all headsets are basically the same tbh I would suggest getting a standalone or clip-on mic if necessary while you save up for a decent pair of cans.

However, since I have yet to get a DAC, would I end up with better sound quality from the E7 since it is an AMP/DAC combo? If not, any recs for which of the other three amps I should get? Currently, I have a PC monitor which is hooked to my computer (DVI), my xbox360 and my PS3 (HDMI). As you all know, HDMI carries sound - but the monitor doesn't have speakers. However, it has a sound output (headphone jack), so I can connect my headphones to the monitor to hear the xbox or the ps3's sound. I'm going to buy a new monitor soon, but unfortunately it won't have a headphone jack, effectively making my game mute. An obvious solution would be to buy a TV instead of a monitor or picking a monitor with a sound output, but that's not happening. Basically, I'm looking for a solution that would allow me to carry HDMI video to my sound-less monitor and somehow "split" out sound from the HDMI cable. Alternatively, both consoles have A/V cables and optical out (I believe). Is there any way to input composite or optical into a device that does have a 3.5mm headphone jack? Are there other solutions that exist/make more sense? If so, link me to the product you can think of. The cheaper the better. I drew 2 of my ideas that may not even be possible, let me know if it can be done. + Show Spoiler + ![]()

Anyway, I was looking at the options for different pads for my Beyer DT770s, and there seem to be some gel pads that improve the comfort, sound signature, AND isolation. Sounds awesome to me, anyone have them here? Oh, and a hilarious picture of the aforementioned gel pads I found on Headfi: + Show Spoiler +

I am considering jumping all the way up to these two items Beyer dt 880 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0024NK35S/ref=asc_df_B0024NK35S1809347?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B0024NK35S Asus Xonar http://www.amazon.com/Xonar-Essence-24-bit-192KHz-Interface/dp/B002UVME88/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323111379&sr=1-2-catcorr If i got these two as a bundle, how much better quality would it be for listening to music through pandora and gaming? I understand that "Better" sound quality is highly subjective, but if someone has used these does it sound good with metal/trance music? One of the reason i am looking into them is because i hear they are pretty neutral sounding (Not extreme towards either base or treble) Any thoughts or comments?

I didn't particularly notice anything else, but the pads are pretty difficult to put on, so it's not like I even got a chance to A/B them. I just tried the standard velour pads before and tried the gel pads another couple times (weeks apart). I've only tried them on DT770 Pro/80, which already have too much bass for me, so I'm not a huge fan. I prefer the stock velour by a bit, but I can see some people liking the gels more.

If you don't mind, my only hesitation is how hot and bothered your ears get with the gels compared to the velours. I guess I have finnicky ears, but I just can't wear leather for that long at all, and I'm unsure about this on the gels.

Sorry, I never tried either velour or the gels on the DT770 for more than say 20 minutes in one sitting (the headphones aren't mine). From this limited experience, I think both would be fine long term. The gels may feel a little colder when putting on, as you might imagine, but over time they heat up by some amount. TBH I find the closed headphones suction/gripping to be more bothersome than heat in general, so I'm probably not the right person to ask. Those are the Pro (250 ohms) version. There's a Premium 250 ohms as well. The DT 770/880/990 Pro versions clamp a little harder and tend to be priced lower. The difference in clamping makes a difference in the sound quality, even if the drivers were the same--and people dispute whether or not the drivers are the same (aside from impedance) even among the 32/250/600 ohms variants.

I've been using some okay-ish headphones up until now for a while but they're almost completely unusable now (i accidentally bent the plug). I'm looking for some high-quality headphones this time but i really have no clue as to what's best. My goal is to listen to songs such as feral by radiohead with as much quality as possible. Hope you guys can help me :D You can always try to fix it by getting a new headphone jack And what would be your price range? What type of sound are you looking for? Open or closed? Circum or Supraural?

Well if they pinch down harder that might be an issue since i wear glasses, which could make them very uncomfortable. Also could you possibly comment on the quality of the amp that come with the deal that the other guy posted? thanks for the help so far guys
