Considering that this was done by a professor of plastic surgery who makes a living teaching people how to build a face for others based on what their culture deems attractive, it makes perfect sense for him to do this. If you made a living by teaching people to play Starcraft, and you were teaching someone who's never played an RTS how to play, wouldn't you show them at the very least a tech tree? Also, though the Korean face isn't quite as fundamentally beautiful as the others, I'm pretty sure she would have a smile that could melt anyone on these boards. | ||

There is also a second faulty assumption here, namely that, as Manlyfesto pointed out, the good doctor believes in "races" and also believes that he is addressing the facial preferences of those races through, again, characterizing current trends in celebrity culture. On top of these faulty assumptions, there is unscientific methodology. He chooses a handful of celebrities from various "races" that presumably strike him as attractive, mixes them together, and--viola!--an objective standard of what constitutes beauty in the five races of man! So even if his project of "teaching people how to build an [attractive] face for others" is appropriate for his professional goals (arguable), he's got a sloppy, poorly-reasoned, and ultimately tautological way of going about that project. | ||

I see these type of faces all the time. That is the point, as someone correctly mentionied earlier in this thread. The more average a face is, the more attractive it is rated by people. However, I mean average in the sense of averaging over a lot of faces in a population whereas you probabaly mean average in the sense of "nothing special". | ||

First of all, what method did he use to create those hybrids? Did he just photoshop the different faces together? How did he choose wich caracteristics of wich face had to be included into the hybrid and wich not? How did he choose wich actresses to use in his quest for finding the ideal faces and wich not? And why are they ideal? Did he just assume popular female actresses are popular because their faces are ideal? Who percieves these faces as ideal? Did he make some sort of study, asking people wich faces are the most ideal to them? And what does ideal even mean? Are ideal faces the ones that make other people more likely to wanting to mate with the person who wears that face around? Oh and african, caucasian, chinese, japanese, korean... these are the five "races" of humanity? Really? It's probably just another stupid study some corporation paid for as a publicity stunt, wich then got into the hands of underpaid journalists, who started cutting out bits of information until the whole thing ended up on that website. And then it found its way to the TL forums and somehow managed to confuse me enough to write a long wall of text that's probably as pointless as the issue it's about. | ||
