No way that woman is an "average" for an african face. Definitely looks mixed. Japanese seems way off too. Everything else could be true I guess.
This isn't about 'average'. None of those look 'average'.
I personally find Japanese the most attractive, after that Caucasian. After that I stop caring.
Chinese guy here, but I don't find myself quite agreeing with the Chinese face. If the surgeon wanted to separate Asians, he should have done it by region rather than nation -the differences transcend borders. Would have to say the Japanese one is the most attractive -> see my previous post Nanako Matsushima is famous for a reason!
1- Chinese 2 - Caucasian 3 - African 4 - Japanese 5 - Korean
imo
Anyway i pretty much agree that this race/country thing is lame and unscientific.

People who consider themselves "white" like to sharply differentiate themselves, although they'll use terms like "ethnicity" instead of "race" and happily group other people into broad categories. Seeing this phenomenon from a Korean source reminds us that other people too enjoy making such broad categorisations which can be jarring when we've conditioned ourselves not to think of "black", "asian" or "white" people as one large homogeneous group.
Also amusing is the use of the word "race". Using the word "race" implies some kind of fundamental biological difference - rather than mere aesthetic variance. A more sincere title for the article should be something like "idealisation of beauty amongst different social groups".

Here, I made the "ideal" piece of portrait art
I was going to ask if Van Gogh was one of the pictures you used before quoting, but now I realize it says it in the link :[
On a side not, I always think it's interesting when people try to give an absolute answer/definition to something that's as subjective as an ideal face type. It reminds me a lot of Plato trying to give conrete definition to the abstract such as beauty or justice. Very intriguing stuff imo.
Quite right T3tra. But interesting thing is, that most of people will find atleast one face in the "pool" attractive to them. Which doesn't mean that we can't find attractive face that is totally different from the ones presented for each race/ethnic group.
I thought the Chinese picture looks like Zhang Ziyi too. But yeah that's probably the perception of beauty from a Chinese guy. Note the more oval shape of the face.

Is it just me or is the ideal piece of portrait art looking a lot like chuck norris ? so yea, maybe it IS the ideal portrait.
btt all 5 faces are pretty hot, the korean just looks a little too babyish for my taste. but after all its just a advertisement for plastic surgery - and facial plastic surgery will never ever get you to look like this. and telling people they have to look like some illusional blend of faces to be beautyful just enrages me. people should look like they do, not like an advertisement or victoria secret photoshop. and even if surgery could make you look like one of those in 20 years - wouldnt it be kinda scary to look in the mirror and see a different person !? and is there even an "ideal" look ? there are a lot of other "hot" looking girls out there that look nothing like the 5 faces portraied here.
edit: except chuck norris and boxer ofc, they resemble the ideal look of badass and terran pretty much perfeclty

Add this poll to the OP? I'm interested in the results.
Does the poll relate to the images in the OP or just in general?
The Korean one looks perfectly beautiful to me, I don't get what all the hating is... maybe it's cuz I'm Korean. Now that I think of it, that's probably why.
1. Korean 2. Chinese 3. Japanese 4. Caucasian tied for 4. African
#1. he is a plastic surgeon, so of course he groups by race by ' different regions beauty tastes' not genetics you nutters! But choosing Korea, Chinese, Japanese, Caucasian and African, obviously is a take on his world view (very typical top 5 race categories for a native Korea)
#2. Stop hating on plastic! If women want to have it, let them have their freedom! And if they are socially pressured into having it, well thus is life, I'm socially pressured into drinking bottles of whiskey regardless how close I am to liver failure, but I bring home the bacon and that's my responsibility and IF women feel they have the responsibility to be as attractive as they can and as warped as that may seem, I for one will not deprive them of their right to choose! Plastic ftw!
What is this..... I don't even?! So he meshed together attractive peoples face's based off ethnicity and claims they are ideal? Refer to sentence 1 of this post.
