a p2.8ghz system with radeon 9800 will run the game decently. NO system will be able to run it at full effect the way we've seen it in demos, much like farcry. But in time super systems will finally crawl out that can handle the game. You could build a really sweet gaming system for <$1000 by going with an athlon64 3000+ chip and overclocking the hell out of it. Would be equivalent to around a p4 3.2ghz machine, for much much less.

Anyone who disliked DOOM deserves to die a horrible, horrible death. DOOM was the finest FPS of its time, and one of the greatest games ever made. In my opinion, THE greatest ever.

Okay guys. I just pre-ordered Doom 3 today. This is actually the first time ever I have pre-ordered a game. My system:

Athlon AMD XP 3000+
Kingston 1GB PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9600 Pro Video Card
120 Maxtor HDD

I think it should be able to handle d3. The only thing that I am contemplating about is the graphics card. Should I update my graphics card to a Radeon 9800 Pro? or should I just stick with the 9600? I really can't decide.

Or what other graphics card should I get?

Whats the difference between the Radeon 9800XT and the Pro version

Stick with the 9600 until you can get a significant upgrade instead of just to a 9800. Waiting a few months for prices to drop on the newer generation cards won't hurt.

Don't buy a radon card for doom3. As you might know or not know; gfx card producers sponsor games so they run better on their brand of cards..as it is now nvidia got doom3 and ati got hl2..

Oh and as a side note - did you like the original doom? doom2? Get a piece of the doom remade thingy;

Basicly it is doom with the same gameplay and everything but in full 3d, with kickass lightning effects and everything the way you remeber. Doom still scares me sometimes:o

Oh and the reason why I'm desperate for a new video card is because this game is said to be a graphics hog. I mean, even the best video card available at the moment still cannot handle the graphic intensity of Doom 3.

hahaha. That wasn't even the beta. That was a leaked alpha which was optimized for a certain hardware configuration used by the demo machines at E3. When it was leaked, didn't the leakers say "DON'T JUDGE THE FINAL GAME'S FRAME RATE BY THIS ALPHA DEMO BECAUSE THE CODE HAS NOT YET BEEN OPTIMIZED."
