Yes it's true.

Visa AND Mastercard were both outlined (apparently) in the embassy cables for doing some *pretty bad things* or so, thus they cut off operations with WikiLeaks as well

And...of course that lead to them getting DDoS'ed by 4chan/Anonymous/whatever's Operation Payback/whatever the fuking name of the operation was.

Something interesting new today from the wikileaks' cables:

"U.S. drugmaker Pfizer hired investigators to find evidence of corruption against Nigeria's attorney general to convince him to drop legal action against the company over a drug trial involving children

Nigeria's Kano state sued the world's largest drugmaker in May 2007 for $2 billion over testing of the meningitis drug Trovan. State authorities said the tests killed 11 children and left dozens disabled.

Pfizer and Kano's state government signed a $75 million settlement on July 30."

I read an article about corruption in the FDA a long time ago, where scientists that tested new drugs were being pressured by the higher-ups into not disclosing certain facts in their reports...

Sorry, I don't remember WHERE I read this article, and I don't really have a link...yeah, I know that sounds pretty obnoxious to make a huge claim and then not support it, but...ugh

I think that's the whole point, the children were the test subjects. How can you be sure that it won't kill children before you actually give it to children and watch them die?

I probably shouldn't be joking, but it's better than crying, right? ><

I can't find any major media outlet reporting on this yet, but there's another interesting cable that's starting to get some news. I'll try to summarize it:

The story of Khalid El-Masri is fairly well-known. He was a German civilian with an unfortunate name (Khalid Al-Masri is an Al Qaeda agent with ties to the 9/11 attack) who was vacationing in Macedonia when he was kidnapped by CIA agents, who rendition'd his ass over to a secret prison in Afghanistan, where he was held for roughly 6 months.

During his capture and imprisonment, he was repeatedly beaten, drugged, "interrogated", and even at one point sodomized. He was also subject to some kind of bizarre starvation regimen. This has all been verified through both official and independent investigation. Over weeks of interrogation and verifying this man's identity, eventually the CIA officials at the "salt pit", the secret prison where he was being held, realized he actually was innocent and who he said he was, but they decided not to release him anyways because he knew too much. He was finally released after a direct order from Condoleeza Rice.

Germany declined to take any kind of action against the US for this torture and extraordinary rendition of their own citizen, and all calls to judicial review in the US has been quashed. Arrest warrants for the CIA agents involved were eventually issued by the Audencia Nacional of Spain. All of that is history. But what is new is that, according to this cable, directed to Rice, Germany's lack of action stemmed from a meeting held between the German deputy national security advisor, Rolf Nikel, and a US diplomat, who urged "that the German Government weigh carefully at every step of the way the implications for relations with the U.S." Well, one need only apply a bit of imagination from there.

Torturing random civilians in prison camps for months, Stalin would have been proud.
That seriously sounds like that lead in to one of those cliche action movies about a lone hunter looking for vengence. Only that in real life the bad guys always win >.<.

I think between the US government clampdown on freedom of speech, while simultaneously announcing that it will host World Press Freedom Day. Corporations are more or less entirely in control of governmental operations. And the only people doing anything about it are internet hackers.

We literally are in a Shadowrun campaign.

To be fair, he wasn't random, he had an incredibly unfortunate name. Kidnapping, imprisoning, and torturing a guy for 6 months because you mixed up his name, hey, that's a mistake that can happen to anyone!

Tweet backup does what it says. Clearly wikileaks has taken the precautions necessary to maintain its twitter records because you can export backups from tweetbackup to your hard drive. Helpful in case twitter closes their account, no?

I don't get it. You mean wikileaks are anti-american liars and have leaked false cables? Or am I an anti-american myself lying about the real contents of the cables?

Because the pentagon have confirmed the leaks are true diplomatic cables and you could download it yourself to check what it's written on it. So you can actually choose in which way you are wrong.

No. What I am saying is that you're extrapolating quite a bit from limited information.

You want to find something to bash the US with. From your previous posts, it seems as if you have a lovely caricature of the US government.

its also possible that pfizer's drug is perfectly A OK but just because of some misguided FDA guideline they cant use it in USA, so they have to go through all the nigerian jazz just to bring it to the US.

I still don't get it. I mentioned Pfizer bribed the Nigerian government officials to stop a suit for killing children then and you accused me of bashing the US government.

So help me understand. Do you think Pfizer is part of the US government or do you think the Nigerian government is part of the US government?

Throughout this thread you've had an anti-American bias in your posts. I would cite either your arguments about the Afghan war or your bullheadedness about Guantanamo detainees. It takes an ideologue to remove all the gray from those examples.

Now referring specifically to that post, you're implying that an evil American corporation is murdering Africans. The situation is much too murky to make that claim based off of one sole source.

Also stop obfuscating.
