Hey everybody,

I was wondering what everyone prefers when it comes to watching VoDs and streams, livestream or uStream? What is your favorite of the two, if any, and why? These questions are not just for people who watch them but also for casters themselves.

biggest difference imo:

ustream doesnt seem to have any ads at all. while livestream pops up a new ad every 15 minutes

I find Livestream better if you want to upload games to YouTube while UStream is the better host for streaming games as Livestream caps users' quality at 500 kbps.

Geez, this OP sucks. Please put some effort and content into your OP.

For starters add something like this:
Poll: Which do you prefer?

Ustream (204)

69%

Livestream (72)

24%

JustinTV (21)

7%

297 total votes

Your vote: Which do you prefer?

(Vote): Livestream
(Vote): Ustream
(Vote): JustinTV

Maybe post your opinion too, because 3 lines aren't acceptable here for an OP.

Livestream Procaster is extremely easy to set up (actually there is no setting up to do) and seems to be much easier on CPU than other encoding applications.

Livestream used to be terrible every now and then but I don`t really experience it anymore, everything goes smooth when watching. Ustream has a bigger bitrate cap if I`m not mistaken though.

edit: Actually I think you can go way over 500kbps with Procaster?

UStream for me when it comes to watching. Livestream when it comes to broadcasting.

Why? UStream is easier on the eyes, has a lot less pop up ads and can go beyond 500 kbps.

Livestream on the other hand is easier to broadcast with, simply because it requires less crap up in the background. UStream requires you to login, hop on the broadcaster in order for you to start up a stream. Livestream just requires either FMLE + Cam recorder or Procaster. UStream needs either FMLE + Cam Recorder + hopping onto UStream broadcaster. That alone makes it a pain in the ass to set up a stream.

Procaster is easier to use, plus it's nice when it comes to managing chat. UStream chat is meh to manage, unless you hop onto an IRC client.

I heard livestream has some pretty bad size limitations or you total amount of VODs for free accounts. Does verifying the account remove that?

No, account verification doesn't do anything. I believe it was either 1 Gig or 10 Gigs last I checked. They start deleting them from your account automatically once you hit the limit. I would check, but they purged my account. =(

I lied. It's actually 10 GB.

Justin tv sponsored SC tournys in the past. Maybe a good idea if we all used there service lol. Assuming its of a similar quality

Ustream seems superior to me. Havent seen it crash yet, and not nearly as many pesky ads.

I found Ustream to be just as easy to stream.

I like the chat in livestream, the way it overlap transparently over the video. As for the quality I've found good and bad on both, so I'll give the edge to livestream as a viewer.

Im only using both for watching sc live streams on TL and from my experience livestream is much better for my crappy pc. usteam lags too much for me and makes the stream choppy.

ustream definitely

Livesteam like others have said have tons of ads that interrupt for no reason.
Not even just the first ad that pop outs for like 15 minutes.
After watching the stream for like 20-30 min, midst of a game changing micro battle,
boom
another ad goes on for 15 seconds and the game is over D:
not to mention it seems to always cover the minimap with some ad

It may just be because my internet is atrociously slow, but I've found ustream has much stronger tendencies to lag than livestream, often to the point of unwatcheability. On top of that, I absolutely love the integrated chat in livestream and can never really get the chat in ustream to work.

However, ustream does have better visual design and less pervasive advertising.
