I'm referring to a callus on the inside of your wrist (right hand or left hand).

Im wondering why would a person have a callus by too much wrist movement if its your wrist that is suppose to have this callus. Sounds more like something for people that chronically masturbate.

I would think that it is something like your fingers that would have this callus since there is actually friction. My wrists stay in place when i play o.o

I think it also depends on the way you grip you mouse... I palm so there's a lot more contact.

I have horrible wrist positioning, sliding it on the corner of my desk, so I wouldn't be surprised if I did, but nope, doesn't look like it. Been meaning to get a cushion for my wrist because it feels like I have carpal tunnel incoming lol.

mind = blown. i always had a callus there on my wrist and i would never know what it was from.
I dont have it anymore, it must have been that ultra-super-low sensitivity for counter strike i played, causing my hand to dart across the mousepad!

Explain to me how you get a callus on your wrist? Do you rest your wrist on the table while moving the mouse? Your wrists should be raised.

The skin there is different, but it's certainly not a callus. My sensitivity (since that also seems to be an issue) is low, but I still need only small motions.

My keyboard + mouse is pushed back a little, so my forearm rests on the edge of the table. No calluses for me!

Nope.

I do have RSI in the index finger of my left hand though.

I'm an electrical engineer doing IC design, so I have to use a mouse all day to make schematics and stuff. Coming home and turning on SC2 is really NOT helping

I think it might have something to do with how your wrist is placed upon your desk. I have tried to draw a picture of what I mean.

(strong paint skills)

My 'setup' now is like the left picture. My whole underam is resting on the table so when I grab the mouse my wrist is slightly highered away from the table. I don't have any callusses from this.

However, I used to have a 'setup' like the right picture when I was a kid. If you have your hand close to the edge of the table, the wrist will rest entirely on the table thus you are more likely to get callusses. This is further supported by the fact that I had that callus you're talking about when I was a kid. (And I played ~ an equal amount of what I do today).

A Callus is a patch of hard skin that forms when the skin below is aggravated too much. I get one when I play squash across the top of my palm, due to changing grip often for forehand and backhand, but I have yet to get one from anything computer related. It will go away (or peel off) if you stop aggravating it.

I am at a desk at work from 7am till 5pm, and then at home gaming till ~11pm so I get about as much pc time as is possible so I guess it is just the correct positioning of kb/mouse/chair/monitor that has prevented my body collapsing

I've got the same hours and I use the callous-inducing position, but I don't have one. Don't think I ever have.

no, i have a noobgamer callus

clean the mousepad, and maybe even use a slight bit of footpowder (or whatever powder). moisture (sweat) is what causes movement to induce calluses (calli o.O?).

i've actually always thot raising the wrist was good, but that contact is so vital for control. im trying to find one of those mousepads with a wristpad on it.

Maybe a really minor callus in the 'normal' place. I play with my mouse a good bit forward of the keyboard, so there's friction across like 2/3rds of my forearm, but no callus there. I can get _most_ mouse movements done without moving anything in contact with the mousepad.

If you have a terrible mouse grip, terrible posture and terrible desk/chair height, then you'd get this. I play a semi claw/fingertip hybrid grip so actually my forearm rests on the edge of my desk, where i have a cushion so my forearm isn't pressed against the corner of my desk, and my wrist doesn't touch the mousepad

You heard me.) -- 2600+ 3v3 (HolyPal/Ele/Destro "Wizard Cleave") -- 2350+ 5v5 Oct-Dec 2008 according to Arena JunkiesW] when 13,000,000+ people were subscribed to WoW, don't even get me started on how incredibly unheard-of and utterly unorthodox Ele/Destro was for my time :D Nobody doubted that I had impressive skill at 1v1, even though WoW 1v1 is nowhere near balanced and thus meant nothing (working as intended). I totally remember watching so many videos of "amazing" warlocks rated even higher than me and just laughing at how inferior 95% of them were. I will admit the best of the best of the best was better than me though :D]

1999-2004, 2009 BW: Expert UMS Mapmaker (Understood 97+% of what everyone else knew about the editor combined before EUD triggers (which is an assload considering how clever you can get with triggers and how I was just 11-16 :D, EUD trigs are just barely after my time), but only publishing 1 private map), mediocre Melee'er ("C"ish at very best)
1997-2004, 2009 Ultima Online: Best Mage PvP'er on a 56k modem you ever saw. I could also design some of the best PvP houses, and right around the time houses came out I went to private servers and became a World Builder. I built many castles and structures and arenas etc from the ground up :D.
D1 - D2... I forget... I played D1 since before WC2 B.net Played D2/D2x til a few months into patch 1.11, Legit PvP'er.
2002-2003? EverQuest. May God please kill this game.

1992-2010 (I was born in 1988 o.O). Many. Many. Many games that I have not mentioned. From Super Mario and Jan of the fucking Jungle to SC2 BETA. FPS's, RTS's, RPG's, Action RPG's, MMO's, Puzzles.

I just finished my first year and college, and a year ago I really wanted to be a game designer. I decided against it ^^ my major is Physics.

Oh yeah so my point is that even though I'm kind of a badass at computer games, I'm going into SC2 as the underdog, and nobody knows me. But I guarantee you everyone who loads up SC2 will have to scroll over one of my maps! I'm not going to neglect trying to become a beast in 1v1 this time either! ROAR!

I heard a main factor is using the keyboard with both of your hands (or one) in a position with the fingers pointing towards each other.
Instead of the standard form:
where both hands are straight
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

you type it in a position where the fingers are in a position like / \, towards each other and wrists pointing outwards.
(sorry cant get a pic).

u dotn really need to "get rid" of it.
it will go away naturally over time.

what caused it in the first place? stop "fueling" it is the key concept. reduce the friction and the moisture between your palm and the mousepad. that's what caused it, that is what will sustain it. if u dont use ur mouse it will go away. so if u can still use ur mouse but elimiate the specific cause, then ur good.

u don't need to "get rid" of it more so than figure out how to eliminate the continual cause for the long run. ur not likely going to quit using ur mouse right? find a way to "live" with your mouse without causing the callus. it's simple as reducing friction and moisture.

What I like to do is put a small hand towel under my wrist. Fold the hand towel as needed. As waffling said, it's as simple as reducing the friction and moisture. The hand towel absorbs some moisture and blunts the friction of the typical "wrist bone on hard surface."

The hand towel I used to great effect in Counter-Strike: Source, which is a must-have, since the hyper sensitivity and reaction time puts a sweat on your wrist. Nothing will get you killed quicker than trying to drag your mouse while your wrist is sticking.

My hand is always resting a bit on the side (while I use my mouse), so yes I do have it. Not a big one and barely noticable too. I guess it's thanks to my pad, it's kinda soft.

And to the guy who said about masturbation, weird thing, I guess it works both ways but it would rather be a skin on the penis to have it not the hand, because skin there is much more sensitive.

I've had this callous for over 6-7 years now, it's on the outside edge of the inside of my right wrist.
I kind of have on on my left wrist, but it is significantly less visible.

my wrist tends to sway side to side but never directly moves so i can't really get a callous. maybe its a sensitivity thing? i may have had it before i got the razer mat which is super soft.

I had a pretty hard one that also started to really hurt as soon as it came into contact with the table, nowadays it's nearly impossible for me to use a mouse without a cushion.

I had this a lot when I was playing Counter-Strike in my teens... Mostly from low sensitivty mouse mvoements over long periods of time. In RTS, not so much. I'm also much now more aware of my posture and positioning.
.... If you get this from playing WoW, it's only because you play 8 hours a day, slouching. Arena isn't hard once you learn the fundamentals. (Been there, FML.)

I used to have one when i played Tremulous and other Quake 3 games because of the fast movements and low sensitivity i would use... it's long gone now but my skin is still alittle rough on that part of my hand.

Enjoy your carpal tunnel. If your wrist is standing unsupported, you're going to permanently damage it. It needs to be resting on something and held at a flat or downward sloped position.

I have it on my right hand from my WoW days. It hurts when it comes in contact with the table so I avoid it as much as possible. Is there a treatment for it? Or will it forever haunt me?

Wow I used to have one of these. Forgot all about it.

Got a huge cloth mousepad now, so I think thats what changed.
