Ads in games don't really bother me so long as they're not incredibly blatant. Especially not when they fit in with the scenario. The irritating ads are those that impede (like pop-ups on flash games) or pull you out of the experience because of foreign to the environment they are.

I find nothing wrong with In-game advertising if its done right. A good example of In-game advertising done right is City of Heroes. City of Heroes has Billboards setup in the virtual world that retailers can buy to advertise something. It could be a shoe or a new game coming out, but the point is that its there to catch the eye of the player without stopping the player from actually playing the game Some example of a way ingame advertising is done wrong if it forces the player to constantly see it or stops the player from actually controlling the game. I remember one MMO that had a banner streaming across the top of the game the entire time. The game was free to play, but the banner was always there. Another example of unacceptable or advertising is what youtube is doing (I know not exactly game play related, but games have done this) Right now where you have to watch a 10 second commercial before your chosen video is loaded.

If the signs in a racing game were real corporate logos / advertisements I really wouldn't care at all. As long as there isn't like a coke or car billboard in a medieval RPG that straight up ruins the game atmosphere then it wouldn't be bothersome. Same here, so long as they are acceptable for the material of the game genre I'm playing. I wish they would change up how they got the drivers and casters are now saying "Well the Chevy Impala red bull number 32 car just ran into the Dodge Goodyear coke-cola number 99 car..." They need to tone it back down to just the driver's name and car #. Advertisements should stick to the material of the game being played. If I'm playing an online fighter, advertisements should stick to the MMA and UFC upcoming fights or a sports game with the current NFL / NBA schedule currently going on in the real world.

Well if you'd stop playing that lame NASCAR game and pick up a game modeled after real racing, like F1 or MotoGP, you wouldn't have that problem! ![]() I mean, unless you like going around in circles getting dizzy waiting for someone to crash because that's the most exciting thing that happens in NASCAR.
